This program works OK for me. Requires a few reboots- long buffer time.
For some reason it almost seemed to work better on my original iphone than my new 3G. I didn't have to reboot on the original. Also I noticed on my original iphone a song would display a photo of the band while the song played. No photo on the 3G.

Also- why can't I see any of my movies? Are these files just too big for SM to handle right now?

I use SM on my original and it works great. Your question has been addressed many times in this forum and in this thread. Of coarse if you had read all 17 pages you wouldn't be asking this question. SM is music streaming App...NOT Video. Think of the bandwidth problems you would have streaming video...common sense should have answered for you...but there you have it

Not everyone is aware of the bandwidth problems that would be caused from streaming video. Nor does everyone have time to read through 17 pages of a thread. (Sadly, I do...)

I'm up and running...finally. After so many here rushed to help me after my previous posts <crickets> (I'm 100% tongue-in-cheek here folks), I was able to figure it out after reassigning my permissions for my zonealarm and avast antivirus.

The problem was with zonealarm. When I recently downloaded an update, it reset my program control level to a higher level of security that can give many programs trouble. I reset the permissions and controls and voila'!

I have sent in a report to Simplify to alert them to the bug fix for others. So if anyone is running zonealarm and having problems, set the program control level to "low" which is described as "learning mode" and you should be fine. Hopoe this helps some people. :)

Buffering for ever....

Anyone else having issues getting stuff to play this morning? I seem to sit on buffering for ever and sometimes doesn't even play. I've tried shutting off, turning off and on networks - just keeps buffering...

Yeah, I'm on edge network (don't have my 3g iphone yet). It buffers forever. I've tried restarting the phone and nothing. It streams great when I'm home on wifi, but have not had it working on edge yet. :( It sucks because I don't use it at home on wifi but would use it all the time at work.

sorry- I quickly read a few pages. thanks for your reply none the less.
Since I steam video on my laptop and SM shows up on my iphone with a movie folder- I thought I would ask.
Oh- and common sense should have told you that the word "course" when used after of- is spelled the way I just spelled it.

This program is working great for me. At first it took FOREVER to scan my library (3000 songs)... And I couldn't connect. I waited patiently, and now it connects perfectly and I drove 10 miles to work today with ZERO drop outs in the music!!!!!!

does this app drain the battery when it's not active? For Instance, if I use this app, then stop listening to music, and continue using my phone is it still connecting to my library?

I was getting cover art with all of my songs, however within the last few days this seems to have disappeared. Has anyone else had this problem?

Question on the files showing:

This has worked great and it's awesome to stream your library late at night to your iPhone (3G) but for some reason I see that my playlists are now gone.

It no longer shows my playlists at all. It's showing "All Albums, All Artists, All Genres, All Songs" now.

The only change I had made was adding an external user. So I don't get it. I really like being able to view and use the playlists.

Any ideas?

LOL...first let me apologize to Bokes...Sorry! It is so hard to get sarcasm across. I had meant it to come across that he shouldn't expected to read 17 pages, therefore I gave him the answer so that he wouldn't.

After re-reading, it did come across as harsh, and I apologize!!!

Happy customer!!!

I have had it loaded since it came out and little issues and have not really used it at lenght, until last night. I have a little cheap Mp3 player I used to mow the lawn with a handfull of songs. I figured why not give this a try. I was amazed at how well it worked and how many great songs I have that have not played in forvever. I did have three spots that it stopped and I closed it and went back in but I honestly think it was on the out reaches of my wifi and it was jumping between that and edge. Other than that I was very, very pleased and will use it again and recommend to others. Just thought I would share my happy thoughts. This was before upgrading to 2.0.2 but have no doubt all is still well as I shared with a friend at a coffee shop it's coolness factor by showing him it in action.

Same here.

Also, sometimes when I click on "artist" or "lyrics," the text will cut off where the edge of the screen is, even when there's obviously more text to be shown. Hopefully it's a bug that can be fixed in an update!

My problem is that sometimes, the cover art doesn't match what's being played. Which means it's not reading the cover art from my iTunes library. Which I find odd.

Agreed - sounds pretty compressed

It must really compress stuff even more than some internet radio, cause the sound quality is horrible!!!!

You got a lot of flack for saying this, but I'm pretty sure they are compressing this substantially as well.

Maybe this is the issue - I first noticed that it was "bad" when I dropped off wifi and had to use 3G directly. On wifi I didn't really notice, on 3G is seems worse. Really obvious compression artifacts are there - the kind of "wah wah" typical with low bit rate MP3s. I agree there are a lot of physiological factors in perception - but what I've heard here is obvious.

My files are all Apple Lossless, so maybe the difference is more apparent. Also, as I say - maybe with Wifi the compression is less extreme. Another possibility is because my files are lossless it is imposing a non-optimal compression on them to get them to stream correctly and if they were well encoded mp3s it would not need to do this. Maybe with a 5 meg MP3 there's no need for additional compression and the MP3 encoding is superior to the on-the-fly compression required to stream a 24 meg lossless file.

Here's some empirical evidence - I checked my 3G data usage on the phone before and after listening to a 24 meg losslessly compressed song. The 3G data usage increased by 9 megs. So either this company has discovered a lossless streaming compression algorithm that blows away flac and Apple lossless or there is lossy compression being applied to the files.

Anyone have any direct word from the company on this? It won't stop me from using the software of course, merely curious.

Yes, the sound is DEFINITELY compressed. Listenable, but compressed. I'd say compressed to about a 64-94kbps bitrate. I believe the program dynamically determines how much to compress based on the available bandwidth at the moment of streaming.

I notice when streaming via 3G that the initial song you play is HIGHLY compressed and then the subsequent songs are still compressed somewhat, but not as much. I’d love a way to be able to set the compression limit to say 128kbps.

I have a post up at their blog - http://www.simplifymedia.com/blog/?p=54#comment-1399

Let's see if they comment on what I posted.

Glad there's others out there who agree. Man, punterab took some heat just for having the audacity to suggest the sound quality wasn't up to par. ...maybe his critics need to get a new pair of headphones and listen to something other than 128kbs source material ;)

From what I've heard, the app only sends the bare minimm song data to the phone to avoid excessive bandwidth consumption and speed up play speed. Album art I think is supplied by a separate server. I wouldn't expect CD quality audio from this awesome app..
