you absolutely need an active subscription. You cant get sirius without it.. the thing is, even though they have an internet player, it is all flash, so you can play it through your iphone.. also, the iphone app for sirius seems to be awesome as far as the UI and organization.

I also have to say, sirius is WAY better than XM, but i am glad that they merged.. Its a good thing.

I still chuckle when I think about all the hearings about the "monopoly" the merger would have. There are a billion media companies out there that have more media pull than Sirius XM will have (Clear Channel, anyone?). Yet some stupid group of people decided to put that whole thing off when it was obvious to most of us that there wasn't really the demand for 2 satellite radio companies. The $13/month (or however much it is) is why I haven't signed up.

I'm hoping an iPhone app might allow them to offer cheaper packages, but I doubt they will. I would love to get football broadcasts, but I just use my iPod for most of my music.

You do have new options.

"The Best of..." packages are now an opton. If you have either service, you can add the "Best of..." the other for an additonal $4 a month (+/- $1).

Additionally, the first 'Ala Carte' radio is out now as well: the Starmate 5. http://shop.sirius.com/edealinv/ser...0&catParentID=7875&scId=7875&oldParentID=7870

With this, there are two options:

Cheap at $6.99: http://www.sirius.com/packages/alacarte
Expensive at $14.95: http://www.sirius.com/packages/alacartegold

Also, the online selection is not representative of all the channels out there. For example, you won't get most of the football (US or Europe). You need a receiver for that for the time being.

The developers are saying the app is done. They are waiting. I guess this means they are waiting for Apple to approve it? Maybe Sirius's approval.

How long does Apple's approval process take before the app shows up in the App Store?

You know, if you have a PC, you can stick Orb on it, put uSirius on that and put Orb on your phone. Bingo, you have Sirius. I've been doing that to listen to Stern and the Garage channel all week. :)

I've tried that using the free Orb web app with mixed results.
Curious about the paid version.
Have you tried both?
Is the paid app worth it?

I never tried the web app because it didn't support live tv, my primary interest, so I didn't care. The app has worked great for me, however. Since it started doing video over 3G and EDGE without having to hack the phone, I think it's totally worth the paltry $10 they want for it. Especially since the alternative is nothing. I'm sure it didn't hurt that I've had an Orb server set up at home for well over a year, all I needed to do was add uSirius and I was done.

As far as quality...there's a quality setting that I use, hopefully, intelligently. I've never seen it buffer via wifi, only a couple times via 3G and somewhat often via EDGE which didn't surprise me. I do limit the upload bandwidth at the server so as to not give poor, frail little AT&T hissy fits but the video quality is still excellent and it supports landscape video which is the holy grail of iPhone video.

I'd say if you have a PC, even if you have to buy a $30 TV card for live TV, the app is completely worth it. If you don't have a PC, it'll be a lot cheaper to wait until Slingplayer is released. Assuming that ever happens.

Sirius may very well be the delay. But, I wonder. There are Windows device apps and players for the Mac out there. Why would there be a delay from Sirius just for the iPhone?

Wasn't there a XM app out already? Search the iTunes Store but didn't find it.

I've been waiting for this app as I don't really want to Jailbreak my phone. It's not that I have a huge aversion to it, it's that I'm not all that interested in the benefits it brings.

At this point I'm getting a little board with Howard's show. That's one reason I'm not in a rush to jailbreak and use Orb. But, I wish this new app was out already.

There's no Sirius player for iPhone because Apple feels it has to control every aspect of the phone. It has to control bandwidth, it has to control what apps you can run on it, it has to control how use you use those apps and if it feels something might get by that it can't control, it turns away the app. There are Sirius apps for Windows Mobile devices because Microsoft doesn't care what you do with their devices. Period. Microsoft offers total freedom and development help. Apple offers roadblocks and strangleholds. That's why.

Edit: Yeah, Stern is pretty dull these days and those "post show shows" are just trash. But maybe once every couple of weeks he has a good show. Stern's problem is that he was grossly overpaid and now he's just a lazy b*tch with little concept of reality.

With the rejection of CastCatcher for "Excessive data transfer" you may be right.

Hopefully the approval committee doesn't eff around too long making their decision.

I would love this App to listen to Opie and Anthony, but lets face it, this app will never be released. The developers are fooling themselves and us if they think this app will ever be on the iphone/touch.

Then maybe they will release it on Cydia. I'd spent 9.99 if I didnt have to tote around my radio too.

Particularly to be able to receive reception anywhere indoors typically. That alone beats the best XM portable (which I happened to research a couple of weeks ago as my current XM radio (SkyFi original!) is biting the dust.

I have the same problem in my and I use the antenna. Maybe it would be better if I placed the antenna outside but too lazy to do it.

I don't buy this at all. There are numerous application already on the app store that eat up bandwidth. Not to mention if AT&T allows teathering like they recently announced!

Besides, if you look at the AOL stations that application was updated to allow 128kbps over EDGE. By contrast Sirius' online streaming (don't know about XM) is only 32kbps. If you upgrade to premium then you're still only at 128kbps. I say this from a data standpoint perspective and not as a reason to debate Sirius' default online service.

I've heard the delay is on the SiriusXM side - they're deathly afraid a SiriusXM app will kill the Stiletto. I hope SiriusXM wakes up and realizes their future is not in the sale of hardware, portable or otherwise. If they're smart, they'll continue to provide their listeners quality talent/content and forget about selling units. Good content will sell subscriptions. Leave the gadgets to Apple, Google, Sony and the like.
