I've heard the delay is on the SiriusXM side - they're deathly afraid a SiriusXM app will kill the Stiletto. I hope SiriusXM wakes up and realizes their future is not in the sale of hardware, portable or otherwise. If they're smart, they'll continue to provide their listeners quality talent/content and forget about selling units. Good content will sell subscriptions. Leave the gadgets to Apple, Google, Sony and the like.

This crossed my mind. It's a good point.

Since I can no longer listen at work, my desire to listen to the show is waning even more. Hell I can get clips of the interesting stuff from Youtube.

Just checked the threads over at geekstoolbox and it sounds like nothing has changed. The app is still complete, but (reading between the lines) it appears that they haven't received permission from Sirius to publish it. The moderator told people the app is done and if we want to see it, we should write to sirius to request their support.

I am so sick of Sirius and their small thinking ways. I am one of the people with XM and Sirius subs and Sirius has also been inferior in terms of technology, sat coverage (which SUCKS compared to XM), narrow playlists, uninformed DJs leftover from their FM days, etc... They even managed to botch the feed they send to Sonos users as it has been broken for a few weeks now. They just don't get it.

SiriusXM could partner with the nicemac/geeks folks and have a huge hit on their hands since their business should be about generating subs, not selling consumer electronics, especially with the auto market tanking and their stock trading at $.20 and facing delisting. I am sure they will ultimately relent, unless they are cooking up their own (likely paid) app.

Maybe uSirius will beat them to the punch since his app worked great on my jailbroken phone.

</end rant>

Im starting to think that guy on Stern was a plant... While ive been hoping for this, by going on howard sterns show and saying its there will create pressure from people calling in and bitching..

ITS NOT ON THE STORE!

Go to the geekstoolbox forums, the guy who called in posted there. It is pretty clear he did it on his own and is just an anxious fan waiting for the app like everyone else.

Really? Misinformation on Stern? Oh the humanity!!! :D

Actually, I don't see what difference Sirius makes to anything. There have been Sirius players out for Windows Mobile for quite some time (I, personally, have had one installed for at least two years) and there's a lot more of those than there are iPhones. If Sirius didn't care then, I don't see why they'd care now, especially since all I'm doing is using the internet connection I've been allowed to use since I first subscribed to Sirius. It's already paid for.

Oh...for like the 10,000th time, if you really want it that badly, set up an Orb server, put uSirius on it, follow the directions to get uSirius to work with Orb (hint: It's SIMPLE), buy Orb for the iPhone and play away. That's how I listen to Sirius and it works great. Plus you get any other media you want to include, live tv, etc.

Does it work for XM?

For what it's worth, I have usirius and ORB running and it's ok but it doesn't hold a candle to the uSirius native app I used to have on my jailbroken phone.

As for the reasons why it may or may not be available, i'm purely speculating here but AT&T has their own side deals for limited XM (now SiriusXM)broadcast direct to some of their phones through a third party. It was a terrible service that only offered a handful of channels for like $8 a month or something. I'm wondering if that might be part of the conflict here.

I also wonder if possibly SiriusXM is considering embracing this app as the platform of a quasi-official app which would naturally require additional layers of refinement and approval?? That being said, their stock tanked another 30% today and the words bankruptcy are starting to be floated around.

Well, yes and no. The only drawback to uSirius and Orb, IMO, is that you have to add individual channels to Orb, and that's a pain. But I listen to 1st Wave, Garage, Raw Dog, Stern and something else I can't remember offhand and 5 channels isn't bad. Otherwise I haven't had any problems or glitches I didn't cause myself, like forgetting to start the server.

I think the "problem" is the same as whatever the "problem" was with Orb that Apple decided to jerk them around for two months. My guess is that it's purely legal. Apple probably sent the app to their legal dept asking if they can get reamed for this and, as with all things legal, it's taking forever to get an answer. I suspect this is the reason a lot of things we'd think were obvious don't happen on the iPhone, like stereo bluetooth audio. One of the few things I find truely impressive about Apple is their paranoia.

still nothing on this app??? Now I fully believe it will not happen due to people would steer away from the Stiletto when they can have sirius/XM on an iphone or ipod touch. What a shame, to have sirius on the iphone would be a dream come true.

It seems like any money they would lose on hardware, they could make back on new subscribers. I would love to have sirius/xm for the sports coverage, but I'm not willing to buy one of their radios. I will not subscribe until I can listen on my iPhone. I tried out one of their portable radios last year, and the coverage was absolutely horrible. I would be standing outside, and the signal would still break up. They are already losing money with their current business model, they may as well cut back on hardware production, and instead expand their subscription services to a wider range of devices.

What gets me is, if I am not mistaken was it not Sprint's Katana that they came out with that came with the ability to recieve Sirius Satellite Radio. If they are worried about losing money, because the likely hood of this being a free app, if it ever becomes one, are slim, slap a $4.99 price tag on it, and sit back and watch as the profits come rolling in. $5 per app, plus all of the new subscriptions, I do not really see a loss here, besides as stated before all of the moeny spent on the stilletos would be a loss. Oh well chalk one up to living in a technological age.

I'd be willing to pay for the app but would not be willing to also pay to listen. I have 3 subscriptions to Sirius already for vehicle radios & would not want to have to pay to listen on the iPhone. I thought the iPhone was going to allow the user to get to the Web application -- does that have the sports coverage? If so, is it just the talk shows like channel 124? I wish we could get the actual games on the phone.

As far as I know, you would get whatever you can get online.

That would be all well and fine if SIRIUS was the one making the app, but SIRIUS is not making the app, stayplayer people are.. which means that they can charge all the money in the world and SIRIUS wont get a dime from those sales..

Maybe SIRIUS put the cobosh on it, who knows.. i'm getting antsy waiting for it thogh

I agree... the orb/uSirius thing works but seems cumbersome. I don't like havint to leave my pc on all the time to listen on my ipod either. I would love a sirius player app adn would gladly pay a reasonable proce for it.

If you're a subscriber then you get Sirius online for free. The drawback is that listening online doesn't have all the channels. However on Sundays for NFL games the broadcasts are spread all over Sirius channels so there's a good chance that games will be broadcast on a channel that is offered online.

For me its great. I have the apps on my work computer which is on all the time anyway. This also helps with using Simplify. The only thing I miss about the usirius app that was out before 2.0 is that I can't see whats currently playing but until they come out with an app store app I'm fine with this setup. At least I can have my favorite Sirius channels on the go.

Everytime this thread gets a new post I think its because the app came out.

Stop it. ;)

It's never coming out so you can quit thinking that. I'm sure Sirius put an end to it. They would be the only ones mad about it being on a portable device especially when they will get no revenue or not enough revenue. We will see if there is even a Sirius signal to be had in a car in Feb. Personally I hope they fail and it gets bought by different people and they fix it so they quit thinking they should sell hardware.....
