i kept my iPhone 3GS from 2009-2011 (2 years)
i kept my iPhone 4S from 2011-2014 (3 years - even installed a new battery myself).
i kept my iPhone 6 from 2014-2017 (3 years)
i had an iPhone 8 from late 2017-present, hated it, sold it and got an iPhone X.

I plan on keeping this iPhone X probably 3-4 years. It's the best iPhone ever made.

I kept my 6s Plus for 2 1/2 years and I suspect I will keep my X at least that long if not longer. The only real reason I upgraded to the X when I did was we added a line to my plan for my son and my carrier was offering 50% off iPhone x with a new line. Gave him my 6s Plus and got the X. With as good as phones are getting and how expensive they are frequent upgrades just don't make much sense to me anymore.

Going to do what I did last year, wait for the keynote to give me the details and decide from there. Only the 6.1” and maybe the 6.5” are of interest. I don’t need OLED. Then again, I have my 8 Plus, so I’m not in any need of a new phone this year either. I will wait if I don’t see anything compelling.

My exact thoughts also. I am considering the 6.5 iPhone X *If* some of the features are compelling enough. But truthfully, just the larger display and bigger battery is already expected is enticing. But the Keynote will make my decisions for me.

I have 2 upgrades available but don't want anything bigger than my X and 8 is too small, guess i will be sticking with my current X. Got it new for $570 off retail so keeping is better value.

I really can't see myself going back to a 6 sized device after upgrading it to an SE... so depends how big the new SE is. I'll upgrade if it's smaller, but probably not if it's the same size or bigger.

iPhone SE user.

If they release something new that's the same general physical size, I may upgrade, but otherwise I'm just going to keep using and enjoying my SE.

It honestly does everything I ask of it great. The only temptation on upgrading is even better cameras, but never at the expense of the physical size, which is priority #1, #2 and #3 for me.

I have upgraded every year from first model except to the 3G and 6. Generally I get a good trade in price every year that covers the cost of any balance remaining on my old phone.

However last year I got an 256gb X and a stainless steel series 3 Apple Watch (first Apple Watch) which was a big combined spend so am planning to keep the X for another year and pray there are no compelling and irresistible features announced this year and that my willpower remains strong. Camera improvements are most tempting to me but assuming there is no radical design change this year I should be able to remains strog.

We don’t need a bigger lithium ion, we need new battery tech. Something that can last a week on a charge like the old flip phones. This 8 plus is solid but boring. I won’t uograde until one of these things is here:

5G
New battery tech
Band 71 on TMO

I know I’ll “want” the new phones, but I have never in my life not bought a new phone at least once a year. The 8 plus should be very serviceable until at least 2020. At that time I could take the money I saved and more than pay for a new 2020 phone. Just gonna be hard to sit on the sidelines when the 2018 phones are sure to impress.

I would say that’s not even close to being ready yet. And in order for battery technology to be more efficient, that means that other counterparts have to be efficient as well in terms of less power draw and management. And one of the largest areas that draw power is the display, and I think once we make the transition to Micro- LED, which can improve the power consumption. There are a lot of great articles with the benefits of Micro-LED indicating the benefits and how it couples with the battery improvements.

Agreed. It’s a shame that in this day and age even 1 day of all day use is considered good.

For me, I can achieve over a day of battery usage with my iPhone. But it also depends on how someone uses their phone, charging frequencies and overall activity. That’s the thing with battery life, it’s subjective for everybody and no one will experience the same results. It’s one of the most difficult topics to discuss, because it’s so variable for everyone.

Even though Apple usually isn’t the first to release something, I always like to believe that they are the ones who will make features/hardware more unique or a product better when the technology is appropriate when they release it. Hopefully, that technology will be here eventually. Micro LEd will be soon to follow.

When the iPhone first came out, it blew away android. The gap has narrowed and you can get a top notch phone for $5xx now.

I do agree they need to improve the battery. I am hoping they include fast charging cable out of the box, along with a long lasting battery. On the Note 8 I am barely under 60% everyday IIRC.

Not knowing what Apples plans are as far as the next iPhone leaves things hanging. Almost all the good leakers have been eliminated one way or the other
Be patient. We need more hard facts other than size to make a decision

I have noticed we have had far less component leaks for this time of year already, but that might change soon. Regardless, last year was the worst year for Apple when it came to leaks with HomePod code, pictures, iPhone parts, the Apple Watch, it was all leaked last year before the September keynote. I know this is rumored website that will report things of that nature, but, I’m hoping we can have a few surprises that we don’t know about coming this fall.
