I understand that, but the fact that AT&T claims that the reason why they won't do it is because it will hinder the 3G bandwith is complete BS. If that were true, they would discontinue slingbox use on all smartphones. What kind of dumbass spokesperson for AT&T would make such a claim, when all the evidence available clearly opposes it!
Um, I think the reason AT&T won't allow it is b/c the iPhone is the number one selling phone in the country. So, if a ton of people with iPhones were using slingbox apps over 3G it would cause a lot larger bandwidth problem. I've never even heard of the AT&T Tilt, so I'm sure AT&T doesn't care who uses the 3G bandwidth with that phone.
I am a Slingbox fan, used it on my Treo 700wx and now my Iphone. Its the main reason I brought the iPhone. But slinging is a bandwith hungry application.
Drumjim85, your asking the wrong question. What is the fundamental difference between the iPhone and the Tilt? How dows the Tilt get it's software? Is it through a controlled store, or can you just download and install anything from anywhere?
Sling works on a Blackberry too, but that is a less controllable software platform. Because of ATT's fear of 3G bandwith hogging applications, it is easy for them to control what goes on the iphone.
So the point is, just because it works on different phone platforms, does not mean it is sanctioned by ATT.
