I'm totally confused as to how you are supposed to use the ipad with the cover on when you're not typing? You fold it behind and the keys just sorta stick into your fingers? As least the one for the 10.5 folds into itself, hiding the keyboard...what is this one supposed to do?

I got the same impression as well. We won’t really know for certain until someone try it out in person, but judging by the hands on video thus far, it looks like the new ASK lacks some basic functionalities of its predecessor. It doesn’t look like we can hide the keyboard or prop it at a low ~30 degree angle. I imagine when there is dust/oil build up on the keyboard it will imprint its shape on the screen. I should get ready for lots of wiping.

Not only that, but I’m curious what is going to protect the screen from the keyboard. The current folding ones have soft microfiber that fits against the screen. Will be interesting to see in person.

I ordered Smart Folio for 11-inch iPad Pro - Charcoal Gray for now... but once companies start selling cheaper cases, I’m returning it.

They are there. Front and back coverage in three colors. The gray was what I ordered. Thanks Apple!

Absolutely !! I couldn't be more happy. This time Apple has acted sensibly by making a complete front and back case. Which is so very much required for such an Investment. And with such a mobile product. Thanks a Million Apple ! You have saved a lot of trouble for users to find a third party back cover. Just love it !!

I'd take a smart cover + back skin over this folios any day. Thiner, lighter, cheaper, and more aesthetic.

I don't know, with an aluminum back, do you really need a protection for the back? This isn't an iPhone, you're probably going to use an iPad while sitting anyway so you'd just need a screen cover so it doesn't get scratched while in your bag.

I’m struggling with this too. I’m watching YouTube videos now hoping to find some hands on videos that show it. So far, no luck.

If you really want protection, this case doesn't provide it. If you want minimalism like us in this thread, this case doesn't provide it.

All I am worried about is protecting the back of the iPad Pro from Scratches and dust. I think this folio very well will do that. It is a no brainer !!

I'm just worried about edge and corner protection. Drop it even a few inches and I fear it may cause damage if it hi its on the corner.

Dont drop it. I'm not sure how anyone could drop a tablet. Phones I can see but the use cases are much different.

Don't worry, you will see no shortage of full case options soon from third parties.

For people like me who just want a stand to go along with it, it seems we've been left out in the Canadian cold.

With the new magnets layout inside the iPad Pro, I doubt the cover only option is possible anymore.
Looks like the magnet on the side is reserved for the Apple Pencil 2 and that's why they switch to the folio style.
Here at 1:47 is the magnets layout:

This is exactly what I thought too. The smart connector is near the bottom on the back now. You cannot attach a smart cover to it without wrapping around the back too.

Unless they have a magnet on the other side (ie opposite edge to the Apple Pencil).

My question is how does this actually attach to the iPad?
Does it attach magnetically?
I don't see any "clips" for want of a better word.

Edit: Just looked at the video further up the page, seems it's magnetic.
Not sure I like this idea, and it has no side/corner protection.

I’d also would like to see a Smart Cover.

All I need on an iPad is a basic screen protection / stand which is as light as possible and can be easily removed.

If no Smart Cover I hope at leat the Smart Folio will be as easy to take off.

It's not just that, my question is what's the point of choosing silver or space grey if you end up covering the whole thing...

This has been a question since ages, IN the Last 7 Years that iPad has been coming out every year, and every year whenever Apple has come out with a Front/Back Folio/Case this situation has always been there. So it is not something that Mankind is facing right now. It has been there since ages. MEH !

I’ve never covered the back of any iPad except the first generation as Apple always offered me a Smart Cover type solution at launch.

If no such solution is offered with the new pro, this is a clear difference compared to previous generations.

Precisely. Additionally, it was quite awesome that one could choose between many different colours for the Smart Cover.

WHICH got me thinking... couldn't the smart cover from the 10.5" be used on the 11" by the means of the smart pencil? I personally not gonna use the smart pencil and since there's magnets there, it could be used to connect a Smart Cover I assume

The dimensions are wrong, so while you might be able to do it, the result will be less than optimal.

Well to be fair they're not that different, only off by a couple mms. My only concern is if the magnet will trigger the closing of the screen. I would still prefer this anyways and the Folio is a robbery £85

I'm astounded that the folio cover is £85 in the UK while being $79 in the US. I was resigned to £1 = $1 (more or less) these days, but actually being more in pounds?!

I received the apple 11 inch folio today. Nice quality as I would expect.

For those interested I tried it with my 10.5 ipad inside and it just slips in the 10.5 leather sleeve okay so I’m glad I can continue to use that. I doubt it will fit with the new keyboard folio though.
