We’ll need to ask the moderators to increase the limit again, much as was the case about six months ago when the cap was raised from 70K to 100K. I think keeping all our work in one place outweighs having to split it into two.

I don’t know, but I imagine it’s way shorter than 70K (the Wiki module to the forum software is an add-on). Also, no, I don’t believe there is a way to make sticky posts within a thread.
I agree, if we can keep all of the information in one thread it is better for us and better for those willing to follow along for themselves.

I see. Did the mods elaborate on any particular inherent limit within the module or is it self-imposed in order to keep wiki posts from dominating a thread? It’s a shame we can’t sticky additional posts as addendum. Links to other posts from the wiki as a long term solution will be increasingly jarring for new users and feel disjointed in place of a single well managed wiki in my opinion.

No, they didn’t. I imagine 70K is a default setting. When I asked if we could have a higher cap, I got a quick reply that the cap had been raised by 40K — which would have been 110K, not 100K.

Would you be okay with pinging the mods and asking for a raise on the cap for the wikipost? If not, I can try with them once more.

Well hopefully there is still some headroom or maybe other options that the mods can illuminate.

Yeah of course, leave with me.

Oh ok I understand what you mean now. I would have suggested to do what you have already done, which will of course replace your current 32bit version with a new 64bit copy. I don’t see anyway around a recompile unfortunately but maybe others will know more and offer a shortcut.

Update on R.app.

After some tweaks in project settings I have managed to build R GUI v. 1.65 in Xcode 10A190 with Debug mode. It finally starts and something is working.

However as of now, package installation from sources fail. So it is still unusable.

Update on R:

R GUI builds kinda normally up to v. 1.67. (It was a nontrivial task to find sources BTW.)
Some packages install, some fail to compile. So far I am unable to get full devtools installed and any Stan implementation.

R GUI v. 1.70 builds and is somewhat functional, but with annoying bugs. For instance, trying to check its version via main menu results in app freezing. I am unsure of the extent of problems. If it turns to be just that menu thing, not a big deal.

Basic demo linear regression seems fine:

And I am able to run basic Bayesian models and doing graphs. Stan is not working [yet], however JAGS installed from source (port install won't work due to weird and very persistent dependency on gcc11), and while rjags failed to install, runjags succeeded:

Hi everyone! Is there anyone who can make modified SL10A190 DMG?(want to burn it on DL disc, because pre-installed image ends in kernel panic)

USB 1.1 is unusably slow and I do not have FW enclosure.

PowerMac QS 800 with Radeon 9000PRO(booting from ATA drive)

A 10A190 dmg is already available, though it only contains basic modifications to allow it to boot on PowerPC and doesn’t contain any of the fixes detailed since. If you’re new to the project, and based on the specs of your machine, i suggest first trying 10A096 and applying the fixes as detailed by @B S Magnet in the WikiPost. A patched 10A190 image will be made available further down the line.

I need to have installable DMG(to burn it on DVD), wiki post contains guide for USB flash disk. Or is it just sufficient to make DMG with disk utility from that folder?

If not, I would be very happy if that DMG was made available.

Pre-installed DMG fails to boot, probably not compatible with QS..

Ideally you want to restore the dmg directly to a partition on your drive via disk utility. You need to make sure that you use the restore option and check ‘erase’ for the destination partition. It should work fine on your machine.

Can you walk me through what exactly you did step-by-step, which image you are attempting to install and where you acquired it?

There are two different stories, with probably both having some merit to them. The first — and official — is Apple and Sun couldn’t reach a licensing agreement. The other story is Sun CEO apparently scooped Steve Jobs just ahead of the WWDC, and this infuriated Jobs so deeply that within a week, Jobs iced Apple’s plans.
That would be so crazy if true. Think of how that altered the direction of the OS. AFS probably wouldn’t exist if they went with ZFS

Oh right, I forgot to check “erase destination” it works now!

Is there a possibility to make Linksys WMP54GSwork?

You’re correct that had Apple adopted ZFS, it wouldn’t have come up with APFS.

Given the timing of how it all played out in real time, and given the multiple “off the record” remarks by Apple Cupertino staff which came from that whole affair (again, in real time, back in ’07) — and also given Jobs’ infamous off-camera/off-record behaviour — there is little to doubt it wasn’t in at least some capacity what actually went down.

I mean, given how long it took Apple to come up with a completely new file system from the ground up, after doing a complete about-face on ZFS after sinking extensive development resources on it for two years (during which ZFS was still open-source at the time of Apple’s own development, Apple ZFS), over little else beyond a P.R. “licensing issues” statement (note: this was still before Oracle bought out Sun and made ZFS a closed-source licence)? The technical reasons why they’d ditch something which they actually needed (for stuff like Time Machine and file compression, which wasn’t brought in until some way into Snow Leopard’s development) and on which they had already worked earnestly for integrating into their modern OS (coinciding with when they were steadfastly bringing OEM SSDs into Macs) were few, if any — other than someone made a simple, blunt executive decision to halt and drop ZFS like a hot potato. They lost precious time in the process.

Yah, I’m pretty sure Jobs the showman was hella-mad about being upstaged like that and responded in kind, pettily and punitively in a way which he could. And it wasn’t until probably around 2012 or 2013, after his death, before Apple began work on another HFS+ replacement whose feature set heavily mirrored many of the technical objectives and achievements which ZFS had solved previously.

That’s great, i’m glad you’re up an running. You’ll need to replace some files to get wireless up and running - please refer to the Wiki for a link to the relevant post.

Regarding that specific card i think you need to install the Linksys Ralink drivers but as far as i’m aware nobody has tested it under 10A190.

Quick update:

I don't know if this is also present in 10A096 but, in the 10A190 Finder, if you enable the path bar then you also enable an early version of the zoom slider which later featured as part of the Snow Leopard Release but more prominently placed.

It’s also present with 10A96, but I didn’t know this until just now. Good find!

If you open Finder prefs and select the Labels tab, do the colour swatches in 10A190 appear as rectangles or as capsules?

How did you get the icon text to display properly in icon view?
I’m fairly sure that issue is only present on some machines but not all - i forget if it was ever an issue on this particular PowerBook as i’ve modified the install quite a lot compared to the original 10A190 dmg.
