So exactly one week in I did manage to pick up some decently noticeable scratches near the bottom back of my 7 Plus. I was already planning on getting a Saddle Brown leather apple case just because I like the way it looks, but now it may spend a little more time in the case than I had originally planned.

Pics? Curious to see.

Update from me. My dad and I both received our jet black phones on Saturday. Mine has had no more scratches (that I can see, anyway) but I've been babying it almost to a compulsive level. Literally not setting it down unless it's on something soft and I'm doing everything in my power to pick it straight up from a surface so as not to scratch it by sliding it across the surface.

Apple knows how crazy we are, why did they make the best color so damn scratchable :(

My dad's is noticeably scuffed on the bottom and has several scratches on the back but he hasn't been babying it like I have.

It's like the back of the iPod all over again.
Funny you say that about your dad's phone because mine has a bunch of tiny scratches at the bottom as well. Not sure what I did to contribute to this, but I don't mind. The grip factor alone outweighs having a scratch free matte black color for me. Still looks great unless you're looking for scratches. But it is interesting that we both have scratching/scuffs at the bottom.

Same with me as stated in my previous post. Micro scratches along the bottom on the back. Must be the way I'm picking it up off of surfaces or something.

Or you could get Apple care like I do when I am on the next program. I end up paying my phones off after about 10 months, but I still get AC.

And don't forget that if you trade in after a year, you can still call Apple and get a refund on AppleCare for what you don't use. (Assuming you make no claims, at trade in time, you get about $65 back) I usually do this and use the refund to pay for AppleCare+ on the new device.

I don't get why people would go for Jet Black and then put it inside a case. That makes absolutely no sense. You never get to see your iPhone so why does it matter that it's jet black?

I think it's sort of a catch 22. People love how beautiful it is, but they are scared that it will get messed up. I mean, they could always take it out of the case in a 'safe' place. Like, I would totally take it out in a carpeted home.

Currently my phone has a black vertical line on the left side of the screen . Appeared seemingly out of nowhere.

Ouch. First time I saw this video, sorry if this is a repeat.

Ignore the silliness of JB vs a screw and razors. Loose change in a pocket with the naked phone, it's a problem. For me I sometimes have my car key in the same pocket with my phone..just habit, so that would be a major no-no.

Just the act of "polishing" the back with a shirt a light scratch appears.

Case or no case, no question this phone...as beautiful as it looks is extremely easy to scratch up..almost near impossible NOT to avoid scratching. I WAS planning on getting the JB - whenever...if ever it hits stores. I don't know now.

Fingerprints..yeah that I expected.
This person gave it a new "color" Oil Spill Black.

I use my JB naked.. I take it to the gym, I keep it in my pockets, I take it out, I put it on glass tables, I put it on wooden tables. My phone cleans itself when I take it in and out of my pocket. It 100% never has any finger prints like that. That person must have some greasy ass fingers. As for scratches.. I have tiny tiny hairline scratches that can only be seen at a certain angle under professional lighting.

In fact, this is how my phone looks when i take it outside before putting it in my pocket.

Had mine since Sunday. Have not babied it and there's not a scratch. The jet black finish is amazing. I'm sure it will scratch but I don't think it's as bad as some fear.

I use mine caseless. It gets its own pocket. Minimal fingerprints which wipe away, and faint hairline scratches which only show if angled the right away

I got mine in a case now. But I do go naked sometime. There isn't any scratches on mine. I put all my phones in my right, front pants pocket. Nothing else goes in the pocket with the phone. That's the way it has been with any model phone I carry.

I think some people is overreacting about the scratches. If you're going to put your phone in the same pocket, purse or bag that also contains loose change, tools, screws or whatever..then it's going to scratch regardless of what phone you have.

I got mine two days ago and I LOVE IT!

The finish is absolutely stunning, it's by far the best looking phone I've ever seen.
Fingerprints are not nearly as bad as everyone said. They are only really visible when you hold it against the sunlight. Of course, it will look pretty bad in the Apple Store, when the phone's getting touched by I don't know how many different people. But if it's your own phone and you take care a little, it isn't too hard to keep it good looking and clean. And I think it's looks just too damn good to put it in a case, so I'm not getting one.

I'm so glad I didn't listen to all these fingerprint/scratches stuff but did listen to my gut and got the JB anyway. I really couldn't love it more!

I just noticed today that mine has a weird blemish above the camera on the antenna line. I think the finish on it started to rub off somehow? It's quite shiny and noticeable from far away when the light hits it.

Curious = why have the applecare if keeping the phone for the 1 year (12 months), since the phone has the 1 year coverage. I only ask since I am in the same boat - I have the ATT Next and plan on upgrading in 12 months for next years phone.. Just curious to see if I am missing something...
One thing to keep in mind is you can get a partial refund from Apple for unused AppleCare+. Meaning, if after 12 months I upgrade to the next iPhone, I can call Apple and have them issue a refund for the remaining 12 months that I won't need.

Also the existing one year coverage doesn't account for damaged screens or any other user accidents you could think of.
