Update from me. My dad and I both received our jet black phones on Saturday. Mine has had no more scratches (that I can see, anyway) but I've been babying it almost to a compulsive level. Literally not setting it down unless it's on something soft and I'm doing everything in my power to pick it straight up from a surface so as not to scratch it by sliding it across the surface.

Apple knows how crazy we are, why did they make the best color so damn scratchable :(

My dad's is noticeably scuffed on the bottom and has several scratches on the back but he hasn't been babying it like I have.

It's like the back of the iPod all over again.

I've been doing the same thing since iPhone 4, you get used to it and don't notice it anymore.

why people think those who choose jb have no right to put a case on it ?its just like any other color i have gold 6 plus and put rose case on it,the jb owners can put any damn case whenever they want :)
Because there is no point in buying the one model with a unique finish on the back, and then covering it with a case. No point whatsoever.

I don't think it's about rights. You buy something you have the right to do whatever you want with it.

What doesn't make sense to me is waiting up to preorder a phone with a finish that you can't even have in launch day to cover it up anyway. Was the finish you're covering up worth waiting an extra couple weeks or months for? I guess some will say yes...

For me the bottom line is I just don't understand. If all I'm going to see is the front black bezel on either device in just going to go with thenohone I don't have to wait until November to receive. But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. People will do what they do. I see threads here where people are calling s person a moron for choosing an iPhone 6s over a 7. Some people are strange lol.

I'm on Apple's Upgrade Program, so I don't really care what it looks like on the back as long as it's black on the front. I don't get the white front. Black makes the screen pop.
I think the white glass helps make the blacks on the screen blacker though. The colours pop equally but the on-screen whites tend to look better on the black fronted phones.

That and the white front + silver more or less equals no visible fingerprints!

Had mine for a week now. Its been naked and transported in a sleeve. No deep scratches or anything of concern. It has micro surface scratches but you cant see them unless you are looking for them in a certain light. It looks no worse than the glass of the 5 /5s series or even my steel apple watch. phone still looks great

You have the right to do whatever you please with your phone. It's just hard to understand why people would get the jet black one and do something to it that makes it look exactly like the regular black one.

I put a liquid screen protector on mine, well all around the phone actually. Have had zero issues with any kind of markings that would be considered permanent, just regular finger prints. But I also have it in a case, so the finger prints are only on it when I take it out to switch the sim card over to my SE when going out for the evening.

Then what is the point of buying any of the other colors?
It's not that you shouldn't buy a jet black if you are going to use a case, but why would you order the one model that is backordered for weeks to months when you can just buy a silver/gold/black model in stores now, when there really isn't a difference. The jet black is not going to fare well even in a case since dust gets trapped back there and will still cause scratches.

I actually am very interested in this too. I completely understand the appeal of JB for people going naked, but if you are putting a case on your phone, why wait months to get it for those waiting?

I sense some sarcasm. haha. I have a clear case on my JB, but I've done that for all my iphones. They are nice looking phones. As long as I can see it through the case I'm happy.

I appreciate your concern, but I assure you, my life will be perfectly fine regardless of what you do with your phone. Go and knit a sweater for it if you want to.

I'm only trying to explain why it's a puzzling choice. Not understanding ones choice and being affected by ones choice are two different things ;)

Are the people waiting months posting to this thread? Seems like that isn't the demo here. The demo here is people who already have a JB iPhone, me being one of them.

I originally had no intent on putting a case on the phone but when my GF turned in her previous phone via the Apple upgrade program, the Apple employee actually examined the previous phone before accepting it back. That got me worried so I got a case since this is my first year on the program. I don't know if it's that serious an examination but it was something I considered. I am constantly tempted to remove the case tho.

ahh. Since the IUP includes AC+ at worst you are probably looking at a $29 screen replacement charge unless the phone is completely broken.

Have been rocking my jet black plus since last Wednesday. Lives in its own pocket, no keys etc., no case except at the gym. Haven't been babying it while putting it down a table (including a glass table, wooden tables...) and have been using it regularly all over Manhattan including the subway, etc.

LOVE that it's far less slippery than the metal. I loathe cases. Smudges are minor and easily wiped away with a microfiber cloth. And no overt scratches; the very faint microabrasions they refer to are seen in very specific lighting with angled fluorescent light. In normal sunlight and ambient room light, it looks as pristine as day one.

On top of that, I have IUP; no need to keep it pristine.
