I will say I put a case on mine right off the bat and it still looks great. It is frustrating though because I keep wanting to take it out and look at it.

So far it is holding up great, got it on Monday and don't notice any scratches. It picks up fingerprints pretty good but they wipe away easily and are never anywhere close to the photos people keep posting from the apple store phones.

Also the grip on this thing is amazing. I couldn't use my 6s Plus naked without feeling like I was playing a dangerous game in which I would drop it at any moment, but the JB feels solid in the hand.

I will probably get either a saddle brown leather apple case, or the nomad leather case soon, but that is more because I like the look of leather than anything about being worried about scratches.

went from a matte black to a jetblack iPhone 7, I was able to swap these at my local Apple Store. Like the iPhone 6S, the matte black iPhone 7 feels like your holding a soapblock.
And I dont do cases/protectors. It totally ruins my user experience

The grip of this jetblack iPhone is phenomanal. Its like the iPhone sticks to your hand. I have owned every iPhone since the 3GS, this jetblack is the grippiest ever. Period.

I also think it is a stellar piece of design. Some call it plastic, I call it the best iPhone design ever.

Now after 3 full days in use, no single visible scratches. Using it naked (with AppleCare+)
I am not the OCD guy who checks his iPhone every day in a full bright light searching for (minor) scratches, I am just enjoying the jetblack iPhone to the fulliest.

You must have a case for this phone it's not like the other colors would be kind a lame cleaning the phone every time You take out of your pocket.

It will be kind of cool if you could installed some kind of screen protector in the back

I haven't received my iPhone (7+) yet, but I would like to hear thoughts from people who installed clear skins. I bought AppleCare+ but I still want my phone to look pristine after a year - not for resell value because I probably won't sell it anyway but just because I like to keep my belongings nice and clean. I also have a black Apple Leather Case in hand but very likely won't use it often.

I decided I'm going with the matte black because I change my cases so often and I was testing a jet black with changing cases and it leaves marks on the phone and it's not pretty

You can. Go check out BestSkinsEver. They make protectors for the back. Mine is on it's way.

That's about what I expect. Everyone seems to be posting that it's fine after 4-5 days, but it's probably being babied right now since it's new and it has to hold up for a year...

Not really. Not only are display models not representative of real world usage, they're not subject to self cleaning which happens each time you take it out and put it in the pants pocket.

I got mine yesterday, and I'm keeping it naked. I inspected it with a flashlight after I took off the protective film and saw no abrasions. A day later, I do see microabrasions when looking at it in the right light or with a flashlight. I've only put it in my empty pocket and gently wiped it with a clean microfiber cloth to remove dust. You can't see the abrasions without looking closely, so looking at it under normal use, it looks great. This is only after one day, though, so we'll see how it holds up over 2 weeks. It's very grippy: feels good in hand.

I remember an iPod that had a chrome looking back, and it was covered in ugly abrasions almost as soon as you took it out of the box. Hopefully, black won't have as severe of an issue with scratches.

I'm waiting on my 7 Plus JB, but also have a regular 7 JB. The 7 has held up without a single scratch. I've used it both in and out of a case since launch day. I'm wondering if the whole scratching is a bit overstated. No I'm not dragging it across a table or purposely dropping it. I'm using the same care I've used for all my iPhones and so far it's perfect.

Blame it on people's misinterpretation of Apple's disclaimer. They never said it's easier to scratch, only that it shows scratches more easily. This is really no different from black cars, which show more scratches despite having the exact same scratches as lighter color cars.

The real reason for Apple's disclaimer is we've had several years of silver/gold/light Space Gray iPhones and so people are no longer used to their iPhones showing scratches, and they know how anal retentive some of their customers are.

Just picked up my jet black. It really is fantastic. Even if it picks up microscratches I won't care.
