I'm going naked. With Applecare+ and knowing I'll have a new phone in 12 months and not worrying about resale value, why the hell not?

Curious = why have the applecare if keeping the phone for the 1 year (12 months), since the phone has the 1 year coverage. I only ask since I am in the same boat - I have the ATT Next and plan on upgrading in 12 months for next years phone.. Just curious to see if I am missing something...

I originally had no intent on putting a case on the phone but when my GF turned in her previous phone via the Apple upgrade program, the Apple employee actually examined the previous phone before accepting it back. That got me worried so I got a case since this is my first year on the program. I don't know if it's that serious an examination but it was something I considered. I am constantly tempted to remove the case tho.

They have to examine it carefully for cracks, etc. because if it's damaged in any way, the customer has to cough up the AC+ deductible cost when swapping out under IUP. However, normal wear and tear (e.g., any scratches, swirl marks, etc.) isn't a cause for concern.

The standard warranty doesn't have accidental damage coverage. They don't want IUP customers to be turning in damaged iPhones at the 12-month mark.

lets be realistic. the real reason is b.c they want a free $100. They are refubishing the phone, and who knows what kind of process that is.

I have been running my iPhone 7 JB naked and in the SB Apple Leather case. The only reason I use the leather case is because I think it looks amazing. Still can't be the JB. It looks so amazing.

While they certainly want to profit from the sale of AC+, they also don't want to be left holding the bag if IUP customers damage their iPhones too many times during the 12-month period. What else can they do if an IUP customer comes to them after, say, 2 months with a shattered iPhone? Free repair for them but not for non-IUP customers without AC+?

I actually am very interested in this too. I completely understand the appeal of JB for people going naked, but if you are putting a case on your phone, why wait months to get it for those waiting?
Because not everyone leaves it in a case 24/7. I use a case while I work or go to the pool or beach, other than that I use it mostly naked. I also currently have a 6S Plus and Note 7, so im in no rush to get it now and the jet black looks really sweet and is different than what we've had for the last couple of years.

They really could make it optional, just like the carriers on their plans. If you damage the phone and want to upgrade you have to fix it. Apple is just taking that $100 and using the parts.

Hmmm, I think my case is coming off now, tho I may use it at the gym still. Thanks for the heads up.

You have the right to do whatever you please with your phone. It's just hard to understand why people would get the jet black one and do something to it that makes it look exactly like the regular black one.

Is it equally hard to understand why people would get the matte black one and do something to it that makes it look exactly like the jet black one?

'''It's not that you shouldn't buy a jet black if you are going to use a case''
me:good point.
'''''but why would you order the one model that is backordered
me:because i want to
''''''when you can just buy a silver/gold/black model in stores now
me:already have that colour so i just want to try another colour, and i dont really need that new 7plus right now.

why people think those who choose jb have no right to put a case on it ?its just like any other color i have gold 6 plus and put rose case on it,the jb owners can put any damn case whenever they want :)

Yeah, even though people still have a case they still get the JB because it gives them the intellectual right to say their iphone's color is Jet Black which plays a good part in everyone's color choice. It's a lot better than getting a space grey phone and putting a black case on it then pretending that you have a JB phone, it just doesn't feel right. Besides, I'm sure most of these people are taking their phone out of the case while indoors to admire the color as they use it, that's what I'd do at least.

I've had my jet black Plus for exactly one week now and it's holding up quite well. In normal light, you can't see anything but if you shine light at a certain angle, you can see faint micro-abrasions. That is exactly what I expected, and therefore I am pleased and will continue to use the phone without a case. I have a Bestskinsever protector on the way and I am uncertain whether I'll actually use it or not... depends on how it looks and feels after applying it. If it's acceptable, I'll just use that. If not, then I'll just continue using it naked until trade-in next year and not worry about it. This isn't a display piece, and there's no need to keep it 100% pristine unless you're going for trade-in value (which I am not because I'm on Next Every Year with AT&T).

IMO no. Putting a case on it (to me) indicates that you're not too particular about the finish. The case, whether it is clear or solid colored will make the jet black and black indistinguishable from each other.

The matte black is easier to get (and on average cheaper since their is no 32gig jet black), so (again, in my thinking) if someone gets the jet black, that signals to me that they are particular about the finish.

att COULD say the scratches/marks are excessive enough to not accept the trade-in. I doubt it, but they COULD. I'm staying the hell away from jet black until they can make such an expensive phone more durable. I think of the whole ATT Next thing as a lease, so it's technically not mine, therefore...I don't need it to scratch up just cause I rubbed my shirt on it or breathed too hard on it.

It's not that you shouldn't buy a jet black if you are going to use a case, but why would you order the one model that is backordered for weeks to months when you can just buy a silver/gold/black model in stores now, when there really isn't a difference. The jet black is not going to fare well even in a case since dust gets trapped back there and will still cause scratches.

Because they're patient and want the color they want and not settling for another color simply because it's more available. If you don't have the patience then sucks to be you. Most people want to enjoy the product they receive, and some others don't really care as long as it functions as advertised. The jet black will indeed go a long way, you must be describing those who don't take good care of a $700 device, which they shouldn't be having anyway if their level of responsibility isn't up to par.

The following isn't indicative of "normal wear and tear." People who take care of their devices do not induce these kinds of damage, including on JB.

True but you never know with these carriers. I would at least use a case and screen protector if I was on ATT Next and had a JB. If on the Apple plan, I would rock it naked.

Or you could get Apple care like I do when I am on the next program. I end up paying my phones off after about 10 months, but I still get AC.

Because if I crack my screen it's only $29 to fix it, and if I destroy it beyond repair it's only $99 for a replacement phone.

I've only had it a few house but I really don't seem to be having as much of a fingerprint problem as I though... my skin has always been very non oily though... so that might be why I'm. It hewing it as bad as other visions I've seen. I've had my hands all over the back and hardly see any fingerprints at all.

went from a matte black to a jetblack iPhone 7, I was able to swap these at my local Apple Store. Like the iPhone 6S, the matte black iPhone 7 feels like your holding a soapblock.
And I dont do cases/protectors. It totally ruins my user experience

The grip of this jetblack iPhone is phenomanal. Its like the iPhone sticks to your hand. I have owned every iPhone since the 3GS, this jetblack is the grippiest ever. Period.

I also think it is a stellar piece of design. Some call it plastic, I call it the best iPhone design ever.

Now after 3 full days in use, no single visible scratches. Using it naked (with AppleCare+)
I am not the OCD guy who checks his iPhone every day in a full bright light searching for (minor) scratches, I am just enjoying the jetblack iPhone to the fulliest.

That my friend is the way to go!
