Before I do this.... one more question

try to restore original build number - 13F1066 then install updated driver for 10.9.5

Thank you, netkas, for your help. On the MacVidCard web site, I only see the 10.9.5 driver 334.01.03f01 for the 13F34 version of the OS.

Is there another place I should look for the NVIDIA driver for the GTX 770 for the original build number - 13F1066 ?

Best,

Barry O'Brien

Wondering if the GTX 750ti (EVGA flavor) suffers from this update or not? I don't seem to be having any problems after running the security update.

^^^^There are security updates issued for all Operating Systems by their publishers? Necessary because of all the BAD Guys out there just waiting to take advantage of a vulnerability on the OS of your device and then to take advantage of you.

Be glad Apple cares enough about us to issue these updates, and they issue them for the current and the last two Mac OSs.

I have no issue with them issuing the update, I do have a problem with it auto installing without me telling it to go ahead.

My own recollection though over the last 8-12 years going back to Jaquar is that they DO tend to break more things than OS X "updates" which are tested more?

In any event, I don't install or apply immediately, I treat with kid gloves, make a clone, try to read what you guys and other "news" sites have tripped over or on for days or a week. And read what ZDNet Security page and others have to say (they usually have something to say!

Apple started becoming more like someone with "SPn" and where you would hold off -- oh, wait, waiting until 10.3.2 or later? or 10.4.3+? yea, every one of 'em has been out the gate, in my mind mind you, as "not ready for prime time" when it is .1 or .2, ever.

People use to send reports, and still do, and see what is said on

That is some beautiful syntax

Solved 2009 MacPro + GTX760

after hours using my MacBookPro connecting my 2009 MacPro (GTX 760 4GB) via Target disk modus and via Screen sharing this was my solution:

(Thanks to netkas and Asgorath)

using beta driver for 10.10.2 for all 14C releases
http://us.download.nvidia.com/dZAS8cBUHaT1cUk4pr4NBgqTMH8PbHXC/WebDriver-343.02.02b04.pkg

and editing

/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist

(via Terminal: sudo nano /system/library/coreservices/SystemVersion.plist)

and restore the old build number there, might cheat nvidia drivers on 10.8/10.9/10.10

<key>ProductBuildVersion</key>
<string>14C109</string>

it works again … for now … total BS tho’ lost quite some workhours cuz of that BS!

any ideas how to fix this when i was stupid enough to install an update without having ssh enabled? i can see the plist file with file sharing but i can't edit it because of the read-only permissions, and i can't login as a superuser through file sharing since i don't have a superuser account, and i can't sudo via file sharing. i guess digging out the old ati card is the only way?

EDIT: target disk mode i guess but my laptop doesn't have firewire

ok, found a way to go target mode. how do i install the driver on the target disk? can i just copy the kexts and prefpane from the pkg or is there a script that does something?

UPDATE: apparently no, i copied the files replacing the old ones, verified the permissions and edited the plist and now the computer is in a perpetual reboot cycle. help!!!

UPDATE 2: repaired permission and now it boots but still no display.

New Security Update 2015-003 Breaks Nvida drivers again

Just Updated my system again with 2015-003 security update. Mac Pro had to the have PRAM reset to star at all. It is now running with Apple system video drivers. The Nvida driver have lasted for just over one week. Fortunately I have a Mac Edition-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 which runs ok on the apple system.

installed the beta drivers using pacifist and changed the build version, it doesn't work (black screen computer works fine otherwise it seems). i also tried resetting the nvram which should revert to the apple drivers (they worked with my gtx 770 before i installed the web drivers in the first place) but no difference. my System.kext is from mar 18 so i guess i have the 003 update. damn.

What has to be frustrating for you guys is that apparently Apple still isn't adopting 343 for themselves - 310 still in the 2nd beta of 10.10.2, so that means when 10.10.3 launches you'll get to do this all over again.

Agreed - its frustrating from *both* sides - Apple just keeps sticking to the versions that are old and Nvidia keeps updating the driver but ties them to particular build numbers. :(

I see Apple's motivation to do that (keep competition from making nMP look bad), but why Nvidia? What do they get out of having their web drivers breaking with every little update? Every few days I think about buying a GTX980, but I don't because of this mess.
