"I think it works pretty well take some time to get used to doing the punctuation but overall I think it's really good for taking notes and things like that"

The poorer your typing skills the more you will like the dictation feature. A good typist will be much faster than dictation especially when you factor in fixing mistakes. Non-the-less, for a lot of people it will be a great feature.

dictation not working in eclipse

Dictation is not working in Eclipse for me. Eclipse is written in Java, so that is maybe the reason why dictation is not working in eclipse.

Great. Let us know how you get on! Thanks

I Called virgin this morning and they were aware of the issue and they have told me it has been addressed! It was a problem with their outgoing servers talking to Apple servers resulting in the service being blocked??

I have just tried it now to dictate this message and it is pretty accurate and fast!

Much was made of this feature in the keynote, and this was really exciting for me as I basically live in word processing apps.

Anyone here care to share how they are getting on with it on the GM?

I'm really interested to get a mini review if I can :)
First attempt:
Much was made of this teaching Tina this is really exciting is a busy living with us.
You're care to show how they're getting on with Jim? I'm interested to get me via review if I can :)

Second attempt:

To me, it feels unnatural because in order to make dictation understand what I'm saying I need to speak in a way that I'm not used to. I guess my pronunciation is really awful :)

I have a few problems with it, I'm in spain and sometimes it doesn't return anything.

It would also be much more useful if it returned text as you went along and not in chunks

I'm typing this post right now using dictation {should be a period} I guess we'll see how it works I didn't estimate {test} ago and didn't seem to have a problem so hopefully this will come out okay {should be a period} I'm not sure how much I'll use this feature but it can be 80 {useful?} when I'm taking more things and I'll include {can't remember what I said here, but not this} a lot of detail but the problem is when you're eligible for {unsure what} you want to say it can cost {cause} problems with dictation text {types} of programs when you pause a lot or I'll {I'll should't be here at all} have to back up and say something different than what you had originally said.

See corrections above.

Dictation is great I just wrote this message with dictation. Wasn't expecting it to be this accurate.

As hit and miss as Iphone's Siri. Never got the darn thing to work in class, and it is proving no more accurate at home. :(

"all caps" doesn't work, although it says it does on apple's site... any work around other than perhaps hitting the caps lock key?

I'm just a crap speaker because no matter what I dictate - German or English - the program can't quite string it all together.

To me it seems like a feature that's nearly there, but not quite. There's enough inaccuracies to make it frustrating. I can type faster than I can speak in a way that it's accurate enough to use.

Also I don't like how you have to tell it when you are finished. If there's a gap in the speech, it could be uploading and processing in the background and fill in the text as you go, rather than do it all in one go.

And please some nosy tell me how to select the blue line under misunderstood words...

Click (double click?) with two fingers on the word, and there should be optional words to choose from in the pop up menu.

All all my my macs here with ML, click, double click, right click etc works about 1 in every 10 attempts.

Ehm. I tried it right now, and I can not for the life of me get it to work on this forum, but if I use dictation in Notes or in Facebook, one 'two finger click' gives the alternatives in the top of the pop up menu.

I wonder why.

Inconsistent Results on Blue Dotted Line

And please some nosy tell me how to select the blue line under misunderstood words...

This depends upon the application you're in. In Safari just click immediately to the right of the blue dotted underline and you'll see alternatives. In mail you will see that blue dotted underline but no matter what you try to do you won't be able to pick up alternatives. This is a gross oversight by Apple that I expect to be corrected soon.

It's not even app specific. I can't get alternatives to work in this text box right now, but when dictating a message on Facebook there is no problem. I wonder why that is.

This is just a quick word of praise for the new dictation feature. As a southerner, I appreciate that it automatically understands the words y'all and y'all's. :D Laugh if you want, but it is an important word in many emails I send each day, and I was worried the recognition service would not pick it up. The way, I dictated this short message, and everything came out fine.

I've had a great experience with it. It understands me perfectly almost every time and even when I'm talking pretty quickly. Not sure how much I'm going to use it, maybe for like a long paper or something when I don't feel like typing.
