Since i got the iphone X a couple of weeks ago, i mentioned almost everywhere a huge amount of hate regarding the iphone X. From the notch to the price everything about it seems to be bad. But this is not my experience at all. The iPhone X is super fast. The design is very nice. The steel body is also awesome. And the display was chosen by displaymate as best Display on a mobile device to date. Face ID is very reliable and also quite fast. Maybe not as fast as touch id2 but its faster than touch id1.
The size is very handy to. You can use it one handed very good. All in all it’s a great mobile. And i don’t understand why they hate it so much.

If you are reffering to the hate that you read about on a tech form, that's a very vocal minority that expresses their displeasure because they don't like the notch, price point, etc. Also, never read too deep in to others displeasure about the iPhone X on a tech forum.

In the outside world, I don't know anybody that has said anything really negative about the iPhone X at all around me. Most who purchase the iPhone X, know exactly what they're purchasing and don't return it because they likely are content with it.

It’s just the many videos on yt saying why i returned my iphone x. I own the s8+ and the X is much faster in most situations. Alone the unlock is a breeze on the X while on the S8+ it’s a little fumbling. The iris scanner is no where as useful as face id. The only thing that could be better imo is a bigger screen. Something in the size of the S8+. But maybe the 5.8 of the X are a very useful compromise.

I had a Samsung s8+ too. The speed of the iPhone and Face ID trounce the same abilities on the Samsung.

It's easy to get the impression that the X is the worst decision Apple's made...the internet's a negative haven, full of loud-mouths who repeatedly shove their hate down the throats of others who are simply after informed & measured opinions.

For all the 'IM RETURNING MAH X HAWHAWHAW' videos/threads, there are also many who praise it. Maybe not as many, as those happy with a product won't need to flood the internet with their venting.

This isn't to say some people have very valid reasons to return the X. They do, but I feel you're not referring to them.

As for myself, I can never ever ever understand the controversy over the notch. It seem to me that people don't get that thanks to the notch, they get extra space for the screen. Apple could have done a full bar/notch (whatever you wanna call it) like Samsung, but due to the notch, the time and the status bar icons can be stored in the corners to make space for the full screen - which is amazing to me!
But this is just more proof that Apple can do whatever they want, people will always be complaining. Even if they built the phones every single person on this planet is asking for, people would still complain that you can't f*cking mow the lawn with it...

The notch is something one can look at either positive or negative way.

Negative - why should that bar come within the screen?!

Positive - Apple had to put those tech in the front of the phone somehow and you either block off the rest of the screen to have a symmetrical face or you use up the extra screen that can be utilised for icons which would otherwise take up screen real estate anyway.

I don't hate the X as I can appreciate the idea of maximizing the screen-to-body ratio. There are definite annoyances though that dampen its appeal for me:
  1. Ugly ugly notch
  2. OS growing pains
  3. $999 starting price

Why do people classify any negative comments, however mild, as "hate"? It makes them sound 12 years old.

It also makes them sound rather narrow-minded. People have different opinions to you, and the world does not revolve around you. Get over it. Why do you care so much about what other people think?

Even with the notch, the screen to body ratio of the X is still lower than a lot of "full screen" phones: (from Digital Trends)

HTC U11 Plus: 78%
LG G6: 78.6%
OnePlus 5T: 80%
Huawei Mate 10 Pro: 80.9%
LG V30: 81.2%
iPhone X: 82.9%
Xiaomi Mi Mix: 83.6%
Galaxy Note8: 83.2%
Galaxy S8: 83.6%
Galaxy S8+: 84%
Essential PH-1: 84.9%

I understand why Apple did what they did, but it didn't result in some magical increase in use of screen real estate, but rather allowed them to just about keep pace with the competition

As full disclosure: as I've mentioned on here in the past, I cannot stand the notch (or any other phone with a notch such as the Essential PH-1) - it really grates on my sense of uniformity and aesthetics and the iPhone X is the first iPhone I've got no interest in at all. I have no problem at all that plenty of other people feel differently, but for me personally it really is a mis-step from Apple

I couldn't agree more. What I have learned is that on tech forums, only users who (usually or tend to) know their tech go online and post about it. Many of these users most likely complain about XYZ device because of ABC reasons that compelled them to go online and post about it. Also, tech forums tend to attract people who have issues with their devices and are looking for answers/support in the community, which is why you see mostly threads with people who have issues with their XYZ device.

Hence if you really want an honest unbiased opinion, talk to friends, family or coworkers who you know use and own XYZ device but are your average Joe. These people will truly tell you the ups and downs in a simple yet reassuring manner.

I wonder how many people that post rheir dialing for the X actually had or have the X.
Personally I don’t foresee myself going back to a buttoned phone.
My iPads frustrate the living crap out of me.
The notch is there, it sure is.
Not really an issue. Surely I wouldn’t purchase a TV with a notch but the notch in the phone doesn’t negatively impact my enjoyment.
The size of the device is what got me. This took a pretty lengthy adjustment period coming from the plus.
If the next generation of the X was released today I would surely upgrade.

Don't really see the love it/hate it but I suppose those with phone emotion may be experiencing it.

I don't hate it, it's just that I'm not quite ready to make the move just yet. If you have it and love it then I'm sincerely happy for you, besides it's only a matter of time before we all make a move to that new model type anyway.

As somone else said forums like these are a very small portion of the buying public. Reading these comments all day would make you think the X is terrible and everyone hates it. I'm seeing more and more people with it out and about I saw 3 on my train commute to work just this morning. In the real world im sure 99% of the people who have it love it.

One of my few criticisms with the X is it seems there is a difference in FaceID authentication between the unlock screen/apple pay usage and 3rd party usage.

This difference seems to be the distance of the phone from my face.

i.e. I have my phone on a dock about 24" from myself. It will unlock almost every time when I glance at it (say after a notification comes in). But if I open an app that uses FaceId I will need to get closer 12-15" in order for it to authenticate.

Other people hating the phone should be a nonissue for the OP. The only thing that matters is that you like the phone. Stop wasting time and energy trying to make sense of the opinions of other people who do not pay your bills.

SOME FACTS:

Its a superb phone, but the price is too high.

The notch doesn't takeaway screen space, it gives you two extra bits at the side for the service icons. Without the notch you would have a thicker bezel with the service icons pushed down into the usable screen space.

The fit and finish is stunning.

The people who come here to hate on something they say they don't want have too much time on their hands and are getting waaay too chewed up over a tech company and its products.

The YouTuber's positing about it do so for the clicks, subscribers, and ad revenue. They genuinely don't care as much as the average hater does.

Tech sites (the bad ones in particular) posting about it do so for the clicks and ad revenue. They genuinely don't care as much as the average hater does either, its their jobs and they are a business.
