Stutter, low fps and frame skips bother me very much. They distract from what I suppose to do. People are different and I hope I could be like those who do not see or care. :)

I once passed my phone to my colleagues and asked them to do certain things. No one said there is nothing wrong. Even when I pointed where it stutters they were saying there is nothing wrong, just my imagination. It just did not distract them even when it was exactly pointed to them. Same goes with my family, only my other son sees the same stutters as I and finds them disturbing.

So I find this conversation little funny when people have so different perception of the very same phone. :)

Those people should check their vision and how fast their nervous system is working, because its a real legitimate issue.

It downloads automatically but you have to manually tell it to install. AND you can delete it after it downloads. You do have a choice.
Still, it never downloaded automatically for me in past iterations. I was on my mobile wifi while out of the house when it started. Could barely do a thing on my phone as it downloaded over 4 hours. Only way it would pause was by turning off my wifi. Restarting the phone didn't do a thing

Gotta be in it to win it
As I said in my own posts earlier, I notice it visually in places but feel it more than anything. iOS 9 is simply not as responsive as 8.4.1, especially on the iPad Air 2.

There are some people I know who can't see the difference between iOS 8 on an iPhone 4s and iOS 8 on an iPhone 6.

I'm used to a certain level of fluidity and responsiveness, and iOS 9 reduces both.

If you don't notice it, fantastic. For those of us who do, it's unacceptable.
On my devices iOS 9 is overall a better experience than iOS 8. To each their own.

I fixed the lag in the search function on my iPad mini 2. I did a restore and an install from backup. Then I did a reset all settings. That took care of the problem. Now everything is smooth as can be. I like it a lot.

There is definitely some performance hit on my 5s. I notice a slight delay when launching apps and returning to the home screen. There's also some occasional jerkiness in animations.

It's not terrible by any means but still disappointing for a performance focused release.

The initial GM build (13A340) was really fluid on my 6+. Frame rates never dropped, lag was at a minimum and the delay from pressing apps and them loading was gone. Even the new multitasking cards were stutter free.

Then of course Apple mucks it up by replacing the GM last minute with another build and it's a lag infested crap fest. I'm jumping to 9.1 beta once it hits second phase. I already know the first one isn't great at the moment.

You might give the 9.1 PB a shot. I found it much more responsive on my Air 2 than 9.0.

What size phones do people have that are experiencing the lag?

Could it be something to do with the different type of NAND used? TLC or MLC?

On my 6 it took about 24 hours but now it's smooth as silk. Was some stuttering before but my guess is when the indexing finished it smoothed out. Everything running fine now. I was late updating.
indexing doesn't take 24 hours. do you even know what indexing is? you just got used to it and think it's normal. it's not.

I somewhat agree. I felt my 5S was just like iOS 8 but I've been using my gfs 5S on iOS 8 and it's clearly faster, less dropped frames in animations, keyboard comes out faster, etc. It's seems so insignificant when I record it but when using it it's very noticeable.

It was slow for couple of days and now it actually is pretty smooth. Some lag here and there that I am pretty sure will be fixed soon

Exactly. iOS 9 performs the same for everyone (unless you have a faulty phone). Some people just don't notice dropped frames or don't care.

iOS is loaded in RAM, not NAND flash. Animation smoothness has nothing to do with flash storage, but everything to do with GPU.

I've given iOS9 a decent try, but I am going to re-install iOS8.4.1 today.

Things I hate in terms of lag/miscellaneous things -

App switcher - its both ugly, and glitchy (closing apps can sometimes cause the animations to glitch out)
App switcher FPS will randomly dive (happens when opening it from within certain apps)
In UK regional mode the 12 hour clock has a . between the AM and PM - e.g. - 12:30 P.M. <ugly
Control Centre lag is annoying
FPS in general seems lower everywhere in places (hard to say exactly every point)
Home button delay exiting apps is noticeable
There is a delay opening apps (for the first time) which makes the phone feel slower
Home screen scrolling occasionally gets micro stutter
Settings scrolling has a lot of stutter (feels like my old iPhone 4 on iOS7)

People saying "woah it got better overnight, must have finished indexing" are just idiots - you've just got used to it - and no, indexing doesn't take days anyway.

I don't use content blockers, so really I didn't gain anything from iOS9 besides a new font and worst battery life/user experience.

Reminds me of my computer at work - we plug our laptops into a port replicator to have dual screens - this causes some minor latency that nobody seemed to notice but me... and now I am used to it and it doesn't really bother me. Same story here - a combination of who is sensitive to these minor FPS/stutters and who isn't, with people just getting used to how slow it is.

Last point - my mother's iPhone 4S is still on iOS7. She asked me to alter something for her on it earlier, and I was honestly amazed at how smooth it was. Scrolling through Setting was absolutely perfect, and it reminded me that's how my iPhone 5S used to feel.

The Forums are littered with detractors for every new iOS release, with usually the same complaints... laggy, buggy, ugly you name it.
Until revisionists rewrite history after the next release or two and suddenly that laggy, buggy version becomes the smoothest, best looking, greatest version ever.
Happens ever release
Rinse and repeat

Lol, so my phone's not really smooth and I just don't know it!! Got it!!!
Lol, so my phone's actually really smooth and I just don't know it!! Got it!!!

Works both ways.

Some people obviously have more sensitivity to FPS problems, perhaps it's because I game a lot on PC - I've had people tell me they can't see the difference between 30fps and 60fps, whereas to me it's clear as day.

I notice really minor FPS dips or stutter, and trust me iOS9 is a big offender in this regard.

Yes happens every release, I would say its not that iOS eventually gets smoother its that we get used to it. If we could roll back to say iOS 6 the difference would be day and night.

I agree to some degree, but if that was totally true there would be no need to post here since everyone would have the same experiences. Obviously they don't. It's just hilarious when other posters come here and start telling posters that they know more about the persons experiences than they do. You will not see me telling others how their phone runs.
Just share experiences how mine runs. To each their own!!

That's because people's perceptions are not all the same. The way I see something might not be the way someone else sees it.

To share my story, I had iOS 9 for a few days and at first it was laggy, but then after a couple of days it seemed like the lag was going away or very minimal. Then, I downgraded to 8.4.1 and I was BLOWN AWAY at how smooth and responsive it is.

So I guess, after having iOS 9 for a while, I just became accustom to how it runs and my perception of it started to change because I had forgotten how it used to be.

The only noticeable lag or stutter I came across was in Messages. The bubbles from my sent messages lags a bit when I hit send. Other than that, I'm really diggin iOS 9's performance
