Apple like always can't release a new version of iOS which is as stable as last .x release like in this case 8.4.1. They change an app switcher and suddenly you need a better CPU for it not to lag? That's ****ing crazy.

I would really like to understand their design choices with some of these changes. The app switcher/card viewer is by far the worst looking thing on the iphone. It was perfect the way it was, individual cards, side by side.... Smooth as ever and we had a full view of at least 2 or 3 cards as they were side by side. Now they did this large, stacked card view which looks absolutely horrible and the "homescreen" card lags like a mother....... It's funny that you mention you all of a sudden need a better CPU and upgraded Ram just for this simple change for it not to lag. hahahahaha.

The other things I don't really like is the spotlight search. It stutters and looks so unfinished when you pull down from the homescreen. And if you actually think about it. If you swipe down you get the spotlight search, right.... If you also swipe from left to right it brings up that new page that also has spotlight search and all that other info. Kind of redundant and I understand the thinking behind it. If you have 5 homescreen pages, you have to swipe 5 times in order to get to that page that has the spotlight search but remove that search all together. I also don't like having a news feed and everything else forced on that page. Is there even a way to edit this page? It just kind of feels like that Google Now or whatever assistant where it recommends stuff to you.... Ugh, just feels like a cluttered mess....

So we aren't here to discuss just to have an echo chamber of people posting the same complaint and that's it? It's a discussion about lag, seems that posting about having it is just as valid about posting about not having it.

The really annoying part is really that many of those who aren't having issues can accept that others can have them, while many those with issues can't accept that they can range and be different for others and ultimately end up pointlessly talking about the people rather than the issues.

Some people would take a bullet for Apple though - I'm not quite sure I can trust their opinion of judgement on the issue.

Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone, but I can still criticise it rather than gloss over the lag with excuses

Ok so in that regard shouldn't you just dismiss yourself?!. You clearly aren't having an issue... Its like posting in a vehical recall thread where numerous people are expierecing a common issue... In that instance you are odd ball trying to tell everyone there isn't an issue because you aren't affected or that isnt in there head; which, in that case your probably better off excusing yourself right?!
You just replied to my post where I clearly pointed out that I keep on mentioning that I perfectly understand and know about people having issues...and in response you say that I keep on denying them. What sense does that make?

Makes perfect sense. Some people can also take a discussion about difference experiences and turn it into more than what it is and find denial and biases where there aren't any simply because there is disagreement.

This is a thread about iOS9 lag though...

It's equally annoying that the Apple Defence Force insists it's in our heads and we're not allowed to express our opinion.

Why not go make an iOS9 smoothness thread to discuss how smooth it is?
+1 This is a classic example of when your "fan level is over 9000"

Mind you im a fan of the apple's ecosystem.

Is anyone else's lock screen freezing? It's happened a couple times now and I have to reset my phone to get it working again. I have a 4S.

If Apple releases tomorrow 9.1 and in the description is stated that the update will quadruple your wifi speed and makes your iphone waterproof than people will actually believe it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was... Other generation seems to be taking the biggest hit in speed of them all..
Funny how the insults seem to come mainly from those who keep on accusing others of something.
Thats an insult?! Oh boy I am very sorry let me stop.. Would it make you feel better if I changed my post from sheep to fan?! Im really not here to upset you... I hate to see people sad. Whenever I see people cry I feel bad and have this urge to comfort them!

If I were next to you right now id make you a pie or somthing!

I guess I am not the only one facing the issue then, interestingly public beta of iOS 9.1 was far more stable than this imo.

And yes it was a fresh install, also it was 2 days or so back so I don't think it's indexing.

More importantly anyone knows how to fix it?

- update -
It starting working properly enough after 3 or more force restart
Hoping for the best now.

Ah, so just posting to reinforce my observation. Proving the point, as they say. Thumbs up.

Even though some Apple fans swore it wasn't.

Going to try a fresh install now to see if its any less laggy on my iPhone 6.

Getting the iPad 1 form iOS 4.3 to iOS 5 vibe. Not as unusable but pretty damn annoying.

Useable? Yes

Does it feel like a blazing fast and modern OS on an iPhone that was just released a year ago? Nope.

Seems like iOS 9 was made for the newest iPhones/iPads which is disappointing because in the past, it took about 2 cycles before devices would seen noticeable slowness.

iOS 9 is a great software full of enhancements to performance and system animation, but it wasn't ready for the public release, more betas were needed to fix all system bugs and lags, for example the time period between iOS 9 beta 5 and iOS 9 GM was like 20 days or more, if more betas were released during this time period to fix bugs, the software would've been amazing, to prove that apple isn't slowing down their devices, the iPhone 6 runs as same as a 5S which means that they are not done improving their latest device which also means that the software is incomplete, many bugs weren't identified. iOS 9.1 beta 1 seems pretty good on my iPad 4 and iPhone 5S, the app delays have been a bit fixed, the system became much better and is now fast and fluid except for some bugs that are awaiting their fix during the time period from sept to November where it is expected to be finally released.

Judging by some comments here that defend apple no matter what i believe you. Tested two iphone 6 with ios9 and both of them have this laggyness all around. I bet the new 6s will not have any as this is their way of forcing you to update so you have the best experience.

Unfortunately, I think the only inputs that Apple or most other manufacturers respond to are sales and market share.
Yeah...I agree. It's unfortunate. I just don't understand...why do people still support apple when they would be treating customers like that....like a poor bastard.

Finally someone who gets it! This is a classic example of planned obsolescence which is used by many companies still to stimulate spending...

Yeah, it's been like that with many x.0 releases, and in particular from the last few major versions.

Gotta be in it to win it
The sad part is you are probably describing yourself in your own post. You have absolutely no evidence to backup anything you say.

Skip to 3:11 If after that video you still cant see the differece across all the models of iPhones then boy am I praying for you. You along with that one other guy who thinks human biology is the source of this lag...
You have no evidence of your own device either. All you are showing is a video of another device. Whatever is happening in the video is not happening with my devices.

As many posts in this thread, there are others who are having the same positive experience as me; which is the case with every IOS update since IOS 5. (This is as far back as I go)

Messages key board lags especially on iPad Air and also the missed calls tab doesn't show the edit button sometime to delete all. I have to toggle back and forth to make it appear.

All I can say is I have a 6 Plus with about 2GB available, I updated to iOS 9 and I have not had a single issue with lag or freezing or anything, really.

I make no claims as this is completely anecdotal.

Or, to put it another way... some people are picky or just plain obsessive

I wouldn't say that. I talked to my 67 year old mom today about iOS 9. And without me saying anything even she said it dropped frames. And she never says anything about this sort of stuff usually. Never said anything about iOS 6, 7 or 8.

Just ran a load of XCode debugging with Instruments.

iOS9 FPS is awful - feel free to check yourself.

Also, noticed backboardd never idles down when the phone is off - it constantly runs at 0.5%-1% cpu usage. My girlfriend's 8.4.1 device's backboardd idles at 0% with occasional 0.3% spikes every 5-10 seconds (this is normal usage in my experience).

Like I said, go install XCode, run some Instruments tests on System Activity/FPS/GPU load and see for yourself.
