Yeah its depressing... :(
Tim has the solution: get the iPad Pro, its pretty new.
Not just depressing, it's insane. Either Apple are getting out of the computer business altogether (and why wouldn't they, when they make orders of magnitude more money with iOS devices), or the entire line-up, top to bottom, is getting a total refresh, all at once.

But even then, with Apple's 30-year commitment to compromise, that may be too little, too late.

No I totally agree with you the new pricing is now even more of a joke than the launch pricing.

I just feel now there are more affordable used systems out there its easier to justify moving back to it.

The point is you didn't go back to the nMP because it became a better value. It became a better value because you were able to find one at a considerably lower cost due to its having been used.

A few months ago Micro Center was selling two open box nMP base systems for $2,199. A much better value than the $2,999 for a new one. More people would accept the nMP today if it were selling for less than what it did 2 1/2 years ago. I bet a lot more people would buy one for $2,199.

You can still do that with the current Disk Utility.
The point was that people do still use Disk Utility, not that you can't do that anymore.
I'm not trusting apple not to gut Disk Utility though.
I just spent an hour today refreshing my bash skills on my Centos VM.
Of course not all the commands translate, but quite a few do.

Besides, the way Apple is going, we had all better get used to doing everything even slightly technical from Bash.
