I may be sent to hell for that but I'll stick with iOS as long as Apple is not turning it into an Android lookalike. Multi windows, multi themes, multi colors, multi fonts, multi folders, multi this and that. I've been a long time user of Android and after a while I could not tolerate anymore those f... layers called themes and skins. Yes it's much fun when you discover the "power" of customization but only for a while. You come to bang you head cause of the multitude of launchers that plague the PlayStore. I came to a simple conclusion: Android is for fun and all play, iOS is for real day to day job. AS it was said years ago that PC were for real computing and Mac for straining your arm with a mouse. As soon as one cannot distinguish the two OS anymore, it will be the time of the next great OS. Now send me to hell...

person to person ApplePay, one-handed keyboard option. Users will now be able to set up a new phone very easily, if they already have another iOS device. Turn on both devices and the new phone will automatically be updated with the settings and passwords etc.

There are a lot of new features in iOS 11. A lot of them Tim didn't even mention.

Instead of complaining, do some research to uncover all the new features and refinements.

Those are definitely good things to have and welcoming additions.
Im surprised they didn't bother mentioning them at all.

There is a ton of stuff they added to IOS 11, a lot of it under the covers. I installed ios 11 on my 5s and it works quite well. CC can be customized with a number of additional buttons.

Nice, I'd like to check it out.
Do you need to be entered in a devs account in order to install ios 11 currently?

Aren't there always a lot of people that expect this with every update? I followed the rumours of iOS 11 and while there weren't many details, I wasn't expecting an overhaul just app redesigns to match the Apple music/news apps.

They massively overhauled the iPad's interaction model, particularly with multitasking.

As for the theme, I see zero indication or need for them to overhaul it again after just four years. They have, however, iteratively improved on it (less ultrathin typography, fewer outlines, more color, …). And they'll continue to.

As for making the theme more customizable for the user, that would be very un-Apple-like and is thus unlikely to happen. If you want that, you're probably better off on a non-Apple platform.

Just so strange, that supposedly there's this radical new iPhone 8 coming in a few months, edge to edge screen, very futuristic all new design, but it will still be running an OS that looks like iOS 7 from years ago, with the ugly and dated app icons, and just an overall old looking OS. It will look funny running on this all new hardware with old looking software, styled from 2013.

The thing is, I am not an iPhone hater, I really enjoyed my iPhone 7 Plus, and think with a JB it's the best smartphone out there. But Apple should just incorporate the top ten most used JB tweaks and make those part of stock iOS 11.
I think the situation is comparable with the one in 2012, when the iPhone 5 came out. The new(-ish) hardware design was released that year, the new software design the next with the 5S. I think (and hope) next year's iOS will be a more aesthetic release overall.

I think it’s funny when people draw conclusions from the past to extrapolate a trend. The overhaul of ios7 was because of the struggle between Forestall and Ive. For as long as Ive has influence, we won’t see a major rethinking, just gradual changes.

Although I do think this is true, Apple is probably still going to focus iOS/macOS releases on one of three themes; looks, functionality or performance.

What major rethink did we ever get under Forestall? People seem to forget that not everyone was crazy about iOS under his reign. Lots of people complained/made fun of faux green felt, leather, stiching, etc. And back in 2013 The Verge wrote an article called It's Always 73 and Sunny in Cupertino basically complaining that iOS was becoming stale. I'm not saying that means everyone wanted iOS 7 (The Verge ran a negative piece about it too) but it's revisionist history for some to suggest iOS 6>prior was loved and iOS 7>greater is hated. I also think the suggestion that one person is driving this is ridiculous. Ive handed off day to day duties to lieutenants. Apple has a human interface team plus thousands of software engineers. I have a feeling these people have a say in the direction of iOS. It's not just Ive dictating from on high.

Not sure about the dev account or not to see the page. There is a public beta I believe. Give it a shot if you have a spare phone and let us know. :)

iOS 11 is a much bigger release than it appears. The difference is that instead of a lot of user features, Apple has loaded up iOS 11 with huge new developer features.

The apps that will blow everyone away this year will come from outside Apple, but they are enabled by the new features behind the scenes of iOS 11.

I feel like I read somewhere that a more modest redesign was in the works anyway for iOS 7. iOS 6 was getting "outdated" and flat design was new. Anyway this statement isn't any more likely than something extrapolated. Apple has always changed the design of their software over time.

There was a ton of chatter on the big websites, saying iOS 11 expected to get a refreshed new UI.

But what they showed is a major disappointment. Same old tired looks since iOS 7, still ZERO customization. Unbelievable, you can't even drag and place an app icon anywhere you'd like on the home screen. WTF, it's 2017, not 2008 anymore. You can't drag and drop a PDF file or something from the PC to a plugged in iPhone, I mean come on. Setting of default apps PLEASE.

Really sucks the Jailbreak scene is pretty much dead, at least with JB you can do a lot of these things that should be stock.

The UI has been refreshed. There’s quite a few visual changes that make IOS 11 different to iOS 10. They aren’t however going to completely change it as it works well.
