So I just got back from my store, did a bit of snooping around with the SKUs that I photographed.

The two Incase items for $39.99 are both Neoprene sleeves, most likely alternating cover. The Incase item for $49.99 is a 'Book Jacket.'

The Targus items had odd names, but are most likely once again sleeves.

20 of the Apple Cases were on order, I checked the dock as well but forgot how many it said were on order.

Out of curiosity, I also checked to see how many iPads my store would be getting (smaller store, but has quite a large yearly budget). On order were 40 of each GB type of iPad, and delivery date was April the 3rd (they'll come in on the 2nd on the truck, and will be unloaded that night), so I'm assuming the 15 was a very conservative number.

Also, I don't know how many people actually know that Best Buy is carrying the iPad on launch day; obviously the people around here do, but it is not advertised at all on Bestbuy.com, not easy to find on Apple.com, and obviously not in the weekly ad this week for Best Buy. So maybe there will not be much of a line at all..?

very great info, thanks for the update!!

Good luck getting an iPad from BB.

C'mon, 15 on launch day, and that is only 5 of each model.

Only the BB with instore Apple Store will have iPad's. Those stores usually are only around large population areas. There will be more than 15 people who will know about BB having it on launch day. Even still, if you were lucky to get one, you may have to shell out extra for the 64gb, cuz likely the 16gb will go first.

Why don't you read a couple posts up?

darnit, I guess I'll have to return my Incase Neoprene 10.2" netbook case I bought from there last week. I thought for sure that Incase wouldn't have an iPad specific neoprene sleeve on launch since there's nothing on their website. What sucks even more is my iPad is being delivered to my house so hopefully by the time I can get to Best Buy, they will still have some of the neoprene sleeves left.

Wow, if there's a shot of easily getting one this Saturday, I may just have to stop by...

Use AmEx Gold or Platinum, if you have one...

I've had my warranty extended by American Express, just for using a gold (or platinum) card, twice. They paid me $3,000 total, for two laptops (Toshiba and HP) that each failed shortly after their initial warranty expired. AmEx used to double the warranty, but now it's just an extra year. But for the iPad, that makes it a two year warranty.

Also, re the cases. I wouldn't buy anything just yet. I' write for iPhone Life Magazine, so I've been to CES (Vegas in Jan), MacWorld (San Francisco in Feb), and CTIA (Vegas, last week) and there were a TON of vendors showing prototypes of cool cases... They're just waiting to confirm the measurements, etc., but expect a wide variety of choices with lots of competition, driving prices down below those $40 examples.

I know the iPads themselves won't be for sale on Bestbuy.com but I am hoping the accessories or at least cases will be. If not for shipping but at least in store pickup so I can go ahead and order one and not have to worry they'll be gone by the time the UPS guy drops off my iPad.

Bestbuy opens at 10 and is within blocks of the apple store I reserved at.

I plan to get to Apple at 9 so I'll swing by bestbuy first since it's in route to see if there is any line. If Apple looks ridiculously crowded at least I'll have an idea what it's looking like at BB so I can decide what I'll do.

Not that it's a big convo I'd be having with random people. But since I haven't heard any talk at all about the iPad outside, tv, radio, etc.. at BB other then this forum.

I think they will sell out fairly quick, but it will be more from walk-ins rather then people waiting on them.

Anyone know what the return policy on the iPad will be at Best Buy? Will they charge a restocking fee on it like they do with laptops?

I would guess it would follow the normal rules. They charge a restocking fee on opened products and you have 14 days to return it. Unless of course your a Silver rewards zone member, which is having purchased $2500 in one year? or the pervious, forget which it is. That then allows you to return an item within 45 days with no restock fee's.

Actually that isn't completely accurate..which is why I was asking.
Is the iPad considered a "computer" first of all, and second, is it considered a "laptop computer" which would mean a 15% restocking fee.

If it's not considered either of these, then its a 30 day return policy with no restocking fee.

Here is their return policy...

Return Period

Return your item anytime from the date you received your item(s) within the timeframe below:

* 14 days for computers, monitors, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, and radar detectors
* 30 days for all other products
* 45 days for all products for Reward Zone Program Premier Silver members

Restocking Fee

A restocking fee is applicable in some product categories, unless you are a Reward Zone Program Premier Silver member, the item is defective, or the fee is prohibited by law. The restocking fee charges are:

* 25% for Special Order Products, including appliances
* 15% for opened notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS navigation and in-car video systems
* 10% for Apple® iPhones

I may be wrong, but considering that on Apple.com, when you go through the order process, they charge a recycling fee of $8. (Not sure if that is a California thing or nationwide thing)

I've only seen recycling fees imposed on computers. I would have to say that Best Buy would have to collect that too and that it would be classified as a computer and subject to restocking fees.

Unless of course your a silver premier member, like me:D (Bought a Samsung LED TV last year), not subject to a restocking fee

There will be NO restocking fee, and the return policy will be 30 days (of course the usual 45 for RWZ PS members, which is what I'll be using on the transaction). Even though the iPads will be displayed in the computer department with at the Apple table, that is simply a marketing strategy to get people to buy Macs.

And Mark, the recycling fee is California only. You guys get charged for that on so many products..

Rrrrreally...now that's interesting to know.

I'm not saying that I may buy one to hold me over until the 3G arrives and then take it back to Best Buy.;)

Does this return policy allow for the iPad to be opened and used? Basically, can I buy it, open it, play with it, then bring it back?

If I did this just to hold out for the 3G, does that make me a slimy/mean person?

yes. considering there are a lot of people that would kill to be able to get a wifi version, to get one with no intention of keeping it and forcing apple to take a small loss by having to sell it at "refurbished" price is a pretty lame thing for you to do.

of course, I am not the moral police so do what you want ;)

What is Apple's return policy/penalty on the iPad?

If BB's is better I may try to snag one from them.

Just a note too, not sure how BB will treat them but I know for iPod Touch's for example if someone came in with a 2nd gen touch that was messed up and needed service (with a service plan) we would ship it out and it would be processed as a Rapid Exchange meaning they would get a certified refurbished one. The only thing we swap out 1 for 1 is the Nanos and shuffles. So I have a feeling that BB will treat the iPad like the iPod Touch's.

I went to 3 different Best Buys within the last few days and all told me that it will be 14 day return policy and a restocking fee if opened. So I'm not sure how you guys are getting 30 days and no restocking fee.
