In other news, some people don't know what a full OS is.

First, you said "real OS" not "full OS". Second, the iPhone OS is real and full. Just because it has different features than what you hoped for does not change that fact.

Oh, and it's not mantra. Just reality. An attachable keyboard and $10 "word processing" apps don't change that.

It's just something that is repeated without any thought or meaning because it sounds like an insult. When you heard Apple was going to come out with a touchscreen computer without a keyboard, was it really a surprise that was similar in shape to an iPod touch? Were you expecting it to look like banana?

Apparently neither do you. The funny thing is that a majority of people who develop operating systems do not code for either Windows, Macintosh or Linux. They work on embedded systems platforms and all the other myriad of OS's out there that support the electronics that rule our lives.

"the software that supports a computer's basic functions, such as scheduling tasks, executing applications and controlling peripherals."

All os which iPhone, iPad, MacOSX, Windows, Linux, Android do. Likewise, the OS's for game systems such as PS3 and Xbox also perform this function too, and are full blown OS's.

Yes, actually it is. If you would care to expand on your snarky comment, then maybe we can discuss the specifics.

No - I don't care to discuss the subject with someone as misguided to make that statement. But thanks for the invitation.

What? You don't even have to have a clue about this stuff to know that I'm right...you can just look at Wikipedia for heavens sake!

Or just look around at what the jailbreaking community has found that they can do on the iPhone...it's not hard to see what I'm talking about.

It's shape is irrelevant, it's capabilities are where the complaints arise from. At no point did I complain about it's shape. Make sure you read the entire post before responding.

Your insistence that the iPhone OS is "real and full" simply illustrates, once again, that you simply don't know what a full-fledged OS is. And ONCE AGAIN, I, as well as many others, will express our discontent over it's absence from the iPad, because there's no reason why it can't be there, as other competitors have proven that it's possible YEARS AGO. This is not a new product. It is something we already have (ipod touch) just a little bigger.

If you want it, buy it. I don't care.

Yeah, I don't know why Apple didn't follow the lead of all of those hugely successful "real and full OS" tablets that came before it. Oh wait....

It would certainly HELP if I didn't have clue to think you were right. Thanks for the laugh

Whatever buddy, enjoy your ignorance.

Isn't the OS that is running on the iPhone (iPhone OS) actually the same OS that was developed for something called the Safari Pad? So, why would the iPad need its own OS? The iPhone OS is OS that Apple developed for its tablet project and they adapted it to run on a smaller screen in order to get into the phone market.

Your post simply further demonstrates my point.

If the OS Apple created for its tablet project was scaled down for a smaller screen and became the iPhone OS, why wasn't the iPhone OS scaled up for a larger screen to become the iPad OS?

Please stop talking about "code bases". First of all, the iPhone launched with a new code base and look at where iPhone development is now. Secondly, the iPhone OS expanded with additional features for the iPad is the same code base.

If you were not commenting on it's form, than why did you use the word "oversized"?

Your insistence that the iPhone OS is "real and full" simply illustrates, once again, that you simply don't know what a full-fledged OS is.

I do understand what an OS is. Whether it's "real" or "full" or "full-fledged" or whatever adjective you choose to use the next time. What you want it to mean is not what it actually does mean.

What you mean is that you want it to run Mac OS X and all the apps that can run on Mac OS X. With modifications that will allow mouse and keyboard inputs to be translated through a touchscreen.

But that is not what you said.

And ONCE AGAIN, I, as well as many others, will express our discontent over it's absence from the iPad,

And again, and again, and again...

because there's no reason why it can't be there, as other competitors have proven that it's possible YEARS AGO.

So why are you upset about the iPad if what you want was made possible by other companies years ago?

This is not a new product. It is something we already have (ipod touch) just a little bigger.

It is a new product. New hardware, new software, new capabilities, new uses.

If you want it, buy it. I don't care.

I don't want the current models.

.

And some REALLY cool new API's and new UI elements are entering the game too which will make the iPad UI experience very nice.

To get an idea of what is possible look closely at the iPad email app and the iPad iWork demos.

Devs are going to come up with some really cool stuff to use these new UI's and API's that are coming into the mix.
