I think this is the highest speedometer2.1 score out there.

Impressive.

Though, the perceivable difference here even between 500 and 600 is like the difference between lap times of F1 cars. All are blazing fast, and the differences wouldn't be noticed unless literally put side by side.

Eg, Safari UX is imperceptible to me between my 13 Pro Max and my buddy's 15 PM.

I'm curious, is Stage Manger just as laggy on the M3 as M2? Specifically, when hitting the F3 key, or Control + down-arrow.

I just jumped from Monterey to 14.1.1 and 17.1.1 and 10.1.1 (well, waiting for it to finish) and haven't noticed any significant performance improvements in Sonoma yet. I hope for the best, and expect more interesting results than I'm ready to see.

Every time I saw a report about Ventura, it was about problems. I didn't see any advantage to it, since they were introducing big, new features that wouldn't likely be 100% operational as designed for a while.

Given Apple's track record in adding features that don't cripple the system, I wanted to avoid Ventura. Ventura County is still good with me, though.

Mine might be faster... except coreaudiod runs away on me after about five minutes after a reboot. Constantly burning at least 30-50% CPU.

Pretty fresh install too.

I haven't noticed the typical upgrade processes sapping CPU, GPU, and system resources that usually run for a week.

That is an improvement worth mentioning.

Everything seems quite smooth now, on all three devices, and the only problem is the usual battery life drain on a new release.

I skipped Ventura on my 2017 15". I tried it but it was noticeably slow than 12.x on that machine. I ran it on my M1's and my 2018 13" and my 2013 21.5 with no issues tho. I think there is something about that 15" that 13.x just didn't like lol.
clean install!

I wouldn't want to be a website host!

Since Sonoma (updated to that on M1 MBP and M1 mini) and iPhone 15PM, I am repeatedly thinking I have not pressed the Refresh button in Safari and Firefox.

For my limited needs, in my little corner of the world, I am very close to instant provided my connection is good.

(I frequently use wifi connected to an outdoor long distance wifi link so there is plenty of opportunity for connectivity issues. Like when they collect rubbish and park their lorry in the way.)

Using Pages is unbelievably faster than Word - especially when exporting to PDF.

Airplay has improved but can still be frustrating - though not at all clear how much is Roku vs Apple.

I updated reluctantly but had no issues.
No observable differences on m2 pro machines but my m1 max got a lot faster.
I think that 3rd party software has been adapted to sonoma, lightroom became quite choppy before the upgrade but now is again very fluid.

Define fast.
Do your apps launch faster, no bounces?
Does the OS boot faster?
Do folders open instantaneously?

Unless there is significant improvement in the above, exactly what's faster?

A browser test developed by Apples Webkit team?
I agree with above speed tests, especially app launch time. I would appreciate anyone's comments.

I didn't want to say anything but 14.2 does feel smoother.. it's almost as if it enabled the 120hz option on my 2020 iMac
feeling the same. Maybe, it's because of the the recent reboot after update installation...

MBA M2 Basic (8/256) also improved after the macOS 14.4 / Safari 17.4 update: Speedometer 2.1 Score was 546, is now 589.
