I saw an appx. 8% (back of the napkin calc) improvement using Speedometer 2.1 between current Ventura iteration and Sonoma 14.1. M2 Max here.

Stage Manager might be just a tinge better, but still very laggy when toggling Expose view, which is pretty sad considering this is the top of the line Mac until 11/7...

With Stage Manager off, the graphics fly with no discernible dropped frames. Heavy Safari tab user here.

YES
CRAZY FAST!

wow this might be the best non M  OS since snow leopard...
hey snow leopard.....oh Sierra and high Sierra did not play nice on my MacBook Air 2010.

I'm very impressed with Sonoma!

How do we hide the menu bar in Sonoma?
im using a macmini,, m1 HDMI Tv screen, no options are in "Desktop and dock" above windows.

thanks in advance!

Does anyone know why Stage Manager is so laggy for me?? I don't want to have to turn it off. Does Apple plan to address this in future updates?

Did you ever figure out what was causing the slowdown? On my 14" M2 Max I can only get 445 in Sonoma on Safari.
Not a clue. Im still getting over 500 every time, 527 is the highest so far.

What ever it was went away after I did a reset of the MacBook.

Im getting the M3 max 16" within the next 2 weeks ant I'm Sure it'll have a score of around 565-600

I hope max tech will do a video on them next week

I am coming from Big Sur on a 16GB M1 Macbook Air. Usually I wait several releases of a new MacOS version before I install. However this time I took the plunge because I needed to upgrade to make some apps work.

I noticed the speed increase of Sonoma immediately across all apps. Wow! The only downside I experienced were some new and weird menu styles.

Someone was testing out speedometer 2.1 on the new M3 Pro MBP and here are the results... Also in my last post I did say it'll be around 565-600 and I was right

I wonder if those who are reporting fastness, clean installed it. I clean installed at Monterey 12.1 and considering doing it for Sonoma. So much crud..

If I may ask, can you elaborate on your upgrade process??

Did you upgrade via software update or do fresh install?

Has anyone else gone straight from Big Sur to Sonoma?

Any thoughts or advice on doing an upgrade from t software update vs a clean install?

Thanks!

Here's what I did:

Run First Aid on your existing system
Download Sonoma 14.1.1 installer
Create a bootable installer on USB drive: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372
Install Sonoma 14.1.1 on your existing computer with all your junk
Do a fresh backup to a fresh external drive via Time Machine
Boot to USB drive in step 3
Format your computer using the Disk Utility
Install Sonoma 14.1.1 to freshly formatted drive
At the end of install, it will ask you to migrate your data, plug in your backup drive in step 5 and select everything to restore

The migrate tool will transfer all your apps and settings over without dragging the system crud/logs over, plus your drive will be formatted with the latest APFS kit and resolve any nagging FS errors that might have shown in step 1

Thanks for the information - just wanted to clarify that I've got a base M1 air that was shipped with Big Sur. Do you still think that the first aid step is necessary to get rid of any FS errors?
