"...easy setup process through HDMI eARC." 😒 I have no confidence in their product, and least of all their support. My ACR refuses to connect to the TV unless I power cycle everything, every 🤬 time. Sonos punted to LG and washed their hands of it/me. LG punted back to Sonos saying the TVs (all four) are operating as intended and sending the correct signals for the ARC to activate. Worked fine for years then Sonos's update(s) came. Thankfully, this is my only Sonos device, and likely my last.

I have the original play bar and 5.1 system from 2013 and it still works great. Would these new systems be a massive upgrade for me?

I always find that speakers are the one thing that last out of all my gadgets/electrics. I think my fridge is longest serving member!

The Bosification of Sonos goes on...
But Bose provides a remote control; very useful in case of underwhelming app update.

That's $2,600 worth of equipment as shown in the picture - 2 subs @ $800 each and the sound bar at $1,000. And no rear speakers included - if any are even available. I'd rather take that money and get a system that has rear speakers like the new Sony system or the Samsung system.

What are y'all using the app for? I never use it lol
Maybe I am missing out on something, but I love my Sonos Set up.
Haha, that is the trick is to not use the app. I think I've mostly only used the app to setup new products, but I haven't bought any in the last 2 year so everything has just continued to work as always. The other day I did try to start music through the app and it was a disaster... it just kept skipping through the entire playlist and then stopping. I just ended up using Airplay 🤷‍♂️

There are two Era 300's behind the sofa.

We have a significant-to-us Sonos system (12 zones with single or multiple Ones or Play:1s, a zone with a Five, a zone with a Play:3 and two home theatre areas - both with Beams, one with a Sub) that a family of 5 uses in some form all day, every day.

We have not had a single issue with the new app in terms of weird behaviour, the system not working as expected, etc. So I guess we've just been lucky? Now the app itself is complete trash in terms of the user interface and functionality, but once we figured it out, we have had no issues using it. I do hope they clean it up so it makes more sense and is more user-friendly, and hopefully soon.

It would be a cold day in hell before I spend $1000 with Sonos. I'm not sure if its the app or the software that constantly updates onboard the speakers, but I constantly have dropouts that require me to restart my wifi or have to unplug or plug in the speakers to restart them. I have issues with laggy volume adjustments and AirPlay has had staticky bass for months now. No. No one should spend this kind of money with Sonos.

I have a house full of Sonos but they won't get another penny from me after this mess. And the new app will have 90% of the features it used to have? Is that supposed to please us? Usually you get more features not less. What a mess. That rhymes!

What are the actual improvements to the Arc Ultra? The press release mentions twice the bass response and reduction in size. Is that it? It is described as 9.1.4 with 14 drivers whilst the original Arc is typically marketed as 5.0.2 with 11 class D amplifiers (3 tweeters, 8 woofers) - are they actually now claiming that the Arc Ultra alone can replicate a 9.1.4 system?

Similar for the Sub 4 - the only improvements seem to be a new chip with more RAM and updated WiFi version (and I thought the Sub was already just a processor/RAM/WiFi update over the Sub 2).

Now I have a Ray in my kitchen and I really like it but no way would I spend a grand on a single soundbar. Just me.
I bought a Ray in the recent sale for £149. Great value at that price. Not going anywhere near a £1k soundbar though. I’m one of lucky ones who haven’t had major app issues.

He used the phrase “legacy features,” he still doesn’t get it.

Legacy means something very different to management than it means to the rest of us.

They keep using it like it’s a bad word like they want it to be, but people have been quickly taught it means “the version that works.”

That’s what I wonder every time I read one of those app criticisms. I barely use it except for Night mode occasionally since I live in an apt. Have the full system (Arc+sub3+ones) connected to ATV and don’t remember having issues in the recent months.

This is not intended for a kitchen TV. Think more like a cinema lounge or games room with an 80"+ quality OLED, 2 subwoofers and two ERA300 for the surrounds. And you have a pretty decent 'wireless' surround system. I've demoed the previous ARC setup like that, and it impressed me more than my current Denon AVR with individual Monitor Audio speakers. And still integrates with whole house music.

I thought the exact same thing. And it’s actually $3600 (the Era 300 surrounds are $500 each). What a ridiculously unnecessary set-up!

Same, I've seen the statement, hear the fuss, still don't get it. Even today, I added a Sub Mini to my daughters beam for her TV. Sure a bit of a faff that I can't add the Sub until all speakers are updated. And I could question why weren't they automatically updated anyway. But, whatever, no big deal. The rest of the time, we just use spotify, and for TV duties it is all automatic anyway. For me it works.

There are other systems, of course, like the Samsung, or Nakamichi Dragon. But how do you integrate that, like with full whole house sound? If you are just after a set just for the TV, then there are definitely cheaper options, and also much more expensive as a full separates system can also be pretty spectacular.

I don’t understand why none of these soundbar + subwoofer setups even offer an option to add discrete left and right speakers and have the soundbar be an actual center channel 🤦.

2 homepods with the wide left and right field sound better than just a soundbar IMO, but that’s all you can do.

I know there are plenty of Sonos loyalists, but after listening to friends systems a LOT, I've come to the conclusion that Sonos just sucks.

If you want a soundbar, Samsung massively outperforms Sonos on SQ, and if you happen to have a Samsung TV with eARC the integration is really good.

Although I'd really recommend getting a quality receiver and some solid speakers. A pair of Bowers 606s for $1,100 are going to be way better, especially for music.

Their press shot looks so silly with a couple of subs where normal speakers should be sitting.

I kind of agree, but you can just buy a couple of discreet L/R speakers + center channel.

Don't agree with people here bashing Sonos for releasing new products. Either a company is innovative or it's not. They dropped the ball with the app but at least they're not equally neglecting all other areas of their business.
