Hey, if it looks good… who cares about functionality…. Uber eats anyone? 🤔The problem is that making something look different for the sake of looking different is nowhere near as important as maintaining basic functionality and eliminating bugs. Modern software development priorities are ass-backwards.
If someone renovated your kitchen would you like it because they put up new wallpaper...but the floors will be back some time Q1 2025.
Wow, I can't even control my speakers anymore. WTF.
Exactly the same scenario that happened to all the Bose Soundtouch customers a few years back - replace the old fully functioning app with a new one that had half the features missing. To make things worse Bose totally abandoned the Soundtouch models a year or two later and introduced a new format, totally incompatible with the old one, leaving users with a house full of old devices with no support and no way to integrate with the new models.Perfect, textbook example of everything that is wrong with software development today. Why was re-invention necessary? Why do they have to "re-introduce beloved features in the coming months?" What was so important that they had to launch a half baked app right now?
Management metrics and corporate culture at it again. The people actually making the software have no say, the users who have to deal with it have no say (other than to stop using the company's products.) Management tunnel vision.
And a marketing department caused Apple to apologize for the latest iPad Pro commercial. It’s always sad to watch a company go from being run by engineers to the marketing department.
Yes, it can now be controlled from anywhere with the web browser but did you notice that the log-in doesn't have MFA? I was unaware this was coming and I'm uncomfortable with something like this with weak security. Just in case this is helpful to others I am running the macOS on a Silicon Mac.What all the critics seem not to consider is that SONOS is a relatively small company that allways will be tight on budget.
The products don't have a premium price that would allow for higher margins.
The best proof is that after three years since the introduction of Apple Silicon Macs, the macOS SONOS app is still Intel only.
The SONOS app for iOS/iPadOS required a refresh. Maybe they released the software too early.
Yes, there are a lot of missing features, but one added feature I don't remember it was available previously.
With a web browser at play.sonos.com, the system can be controlled from anywhere.
Ios7 cough, cough. The problem is that making something look different for the sake of looking different is nowhere near as important as maintaining basic functionality and eliminating bugs. Modern software development priorities are ass-backwards.

This has nothing to do with modern software development and everything to do with one company and the people in charge of the software getting it very wrong.Perfect, textbook example of everything that is wrong with software development today. VERY EASY ANSWER: "MONEY"So why push the release if they have not had the time to implement basic functions?
My speculation..Sonos has plans. The Core app changes addressing their on going challenges with wifi. Apple AirPlay suffers from many of the same challenges Sonos has. Managing all the aspects of sound syncing, levels, stereo, Spacial Audio, Home Theater all variable's that are occurring with today’s apps. One reason Sonos went to two apps S1and S2. The new technology hardware on the horizon including headphones may just need the core structure of the new Sonos app. With the response, a very significant under the hood changes appear necessary.Taking a move from the Apple playbook I see
But you know, for all the crap that Apple got for removing the headphone jack, and maybe deservedly so, you can't deny the positive impact they had on improving the wireless headphone market. I'm not sure what positive impact Sonos thinks they'll have here.

Ugh it’s bad but on a different angleSounds like the missing features should (and likely will) be added back. The previous UI was awful. The new design seems maybe better and certainly not worse.
