Is it thinner? I didn't see the specs announced, but I saw this... my eyes are burned forever. Personally I see the opposite, this will sell well to the teenie bopper crowd that wants to send smilie faces to another iwatch. The moto360 is a work of art, I'm not saying it's the end all, android wear is kind of crappy and the Moto uses a very crappy processor, but it sure as heck looks nice.

Maybe it looks better on your wrist.

As a Moto 360 owner I have to say it was VERY weird to watch Apple release this thing, this is what Ive thinks will compete with Swiss watches?!?!? From a purely aesthetic view the Moto 360 is beautiful and I'd put it up against a regular high end fashion phone just in terms of that first glance. I see NO ONE in the press or in the general public calling the moto 360 a fisher price/casio/80s/swatch looking smartwatch, no one.

Functionally I can't say yet, not having seen the iwatch in action. Although if Apple's priority was to show someone drawing a smilie face and sending it to someone else, I'm not very hopeful. Still this is Apple, they excel at making the complex simple so I will give them the benefit of the doubt until we get a closer look at the UI.

let me say though that I'm not really impressed with Android wear either, it definitely needs some TLC.

----------

Yeah, aesthetically I find a round watch more attractive but let's face it, watches are generally round because that is the common shape of analog clocks and until now, telling time was the sole function of most watches. From a functional standpoint, a square shape makes more sense--one of the few criticisms of using the Moto 360 is text being cut off because of the round display. All that being said, i still find round more appealing.

I'm certainly going to wait to learn more about it before deciding if I'm going to get one.

As much as I love my moto 360 I can't help but agree with you. A square face makes more sense. It doesn't mean square faces aren't ugly (my opinion) but some of us balance aesthetics versus function, admittedly myself included.

----------

Maybe it looks better on your wrist.

I hope it brings a complimentary machete so I can chop off my hand. :p

Was anything said about battery life? I didn't watch the event.

No contest what-so-ever. The iWatch will sell to the niche hardcore Apple crowd and few others. It is ugly as sin, looks like a gear watch replica, just shinier and the spin knob to navigate? Seriously?

This is a failed product in the making. Too expensive and to ugly.

I also feel this will be a failed product, but not for these reasons. I just don't think the demand is there for smartwatches.

hyping almost two years and lots of designers... what did they gave? a ridiculous looking watch, which seems to look like Samsung Gear with a button.

I would probably, honestly buy this if aPayments worked w/o TouchID. I still have yet to read those details. But I sunk $50 into Coin, actually only $5 considering the credits I received from some super gullible people. And Apple officially retired onlycoin.com today!

Hah. I almost did the coin pre-order but didn't trust that stores would actually take the card. What happens when you actually use it? Does the waiter look at you weird?

Apple's watch is a kid's toy, whereas Moto 360 is an elegant timepiece.

No smart watch is an elegant timepiece. A Rolex is an elegant timepiece. Heck, even a Citizen is an elegant timepiece. A Moto360 and an Apple Watch aren't really timepieces in the traditional sense at all.

Oh, since you didn't preorder. It is delayed! I'm "in the beta" but obviously with the iPhone 6 and aWatch, Coin will be DOA. It had so much promise circa 2012, even if it came out in 2013. But since Apple created so many partnerships for payments, they are going to kill any sort of startup alternative.

Having seen the iWatch, I think I'd prefer a 6th gen iPod Nano... it does more of what I want in a smart watch. But then again I'm an oddball.

Hey for once we are in agreement. Remember all the hype about making watchbands for the 6th gen nano? I wish they kept that form factor. Tell me this doesn't look better...

we're in agreement?! About the 6th gen nano or that I'm an oddball. :p
Yes, I remember... and I've been poking around ebay for nano watchbands... some of them are pretty nice.

Care to place a wager what watch sells better, the :apple: watch, the Moto 360, or all Samsung smart watches? ;) It won't even be close...

Regarding looks, that's really a matter of preference. I generally prefer a round watch but don't hate this--best looking square design so far, IMO. Certainly didn't knock it out of the park but not a terrible first effort.

And sorry but I completely disagree regarding the dial. I think it's an excellent complement for navigating around a tiny touch screen. Everyone around here bitches and moans about Apple's lack of innovation but I think Apple has surpassed anything available so far--the navigation dial and pressure sensitive face being two great examples.

Unless you are left handed.

Unless you are left handed.

Well, considering you can probably flip it around and the screen orientation will rotate, I don't see the problem. If that functionality isn't baked into the watch OS, then I completely agree.

Style Test:
Take your smartwatch, remove everything smart about it, replace it with mechanical guts. Compare to a stylish mechanical watch, if it works the designer got the style right.

Rip out the LCD and put a dial on these things, would look like a cheap toy
Galaxy%20Gear%202%20black%201%20copy-580-90.jpg

Put analog hands in this thing and it would still look good

I won't discount that it will sell well. Though I am kinda surprised that folks are so quick to be okay with the square watch face versus the round one.

It makes more sense since it's not JUST for looking at a circle of numbers. A checklist is one of those things that doesn't work very well on a circle for instance. Neither do pictures. I know people are going to say that you probably wouldn't look at pictures on a screen that small, but I have an iPod Nano 7th generation and I can tell you that it really isn't a bad sized screen to do so.

I understand the argument; no one seemed to be okay with that being the case when it came to the other square watches that are for sale. I don't mind the shape I own a Toq (and a Moto360). I really wish Mirasol displays got more exposure.

If you want to pick certain combinations and bash them, fine.

But given there are 6 watch housings all in 2 sizes and numerous bands, I think picking and choosing certain combos just to bash the whole product is a bit much.

I like the Moto 360, but it's not perfect. Using "atrocity" and "work of art" to describe these devices is just too over the top for me.

I think the Moto 360 overall looks nicer. But I like the Apple Watch too and it's far more customizable and has more functionality.

People I guess needed to convince themselves that they didn't like it by giving a reason other than they wouldn't buy it.

I'm not bashing the combination, I'm bashing the thickness, or at least how thick it "looks" in the picture. It looks like a balloon. The colors are garish and terrible, but once again I'm not bashing those. My personal combination would be stainless steel with the SS band, in those pics it definitely looks like a casio.

I honestly do think atrocity is appropriate, once again this is my opinion and I base that term more towards 1) the sport one with that awful rubber band and 2) the gold one I pictured. The SS one isn't atrocious, but it is very ugly.

My opinion of how bad it looks is just as valid as your opinion of how good it looks, and it just proves none of us are right. The only right one is the one who profits and I have no doubt Apple will sell tons of these regardless of my opinion.

I find all this quite absurd...

Who is going to use their watch to send messages or what pictures when their phones is in their pocket?

It would take 3 times longer to do all those tasks on the watch than on the phone.

Really it is absurd.

IMO a smartwatch all it should do is receive notifications so one can easily see them without reaching for the phone.

Nothing more is really needed.

If I were in the market for a smart watch, Apple would be my first choice.

In fact I am pretty sure I will be getting an Apple Watch Sport, 42mm Silver Aluminum Case
with Blue Sport Band.

In contrast I have never considered an android sport watch.

Ive no interest in any of these watches. However, .......i thought Samsung was high on the price tag at $249. Well, Apple of course comes in higher. No shocker but again, ive no interest in something my phone does already and most likely you will be carrying both so i dont see the point in wasting the money.

I think it looks awful. I'm definitely giving it a miss for a few generations until Apple slims it down and makes it waterproof (not just water resistant).
