Won't Dropbox do that for you? Will IOS let Dropbox sync all of your pictures to Dropbox....then sync it back down to every device that has the client installed? It is cross platform too.....

It very well might, haven't dug deep into it's functionality but I believe it will take more manual work and require separate photo libraries, as I don't think photos will remain synced between both Dropbox and iPhoto. It also means I have to set a shared photo folder in Dropbox and each client that wants to share must then have their own Dropbox account. Not as slick as what will likely be inputting an Apple ID and flipping a switch.

I realize it's not a benefit to everyone, especially those not as embed in the Apple ecosystem, but it's a welcome change for me.

And companies like Nike and FitBit were doing it well before Samsung and Apple. Why anyone cares who came out with what feature first is beyond me. Who care who did it first? I just want functionality that works. First very rarely means best in this industry.

What's the mantra in this subforum, 'why wouldn't anyone not want options?' People praise how an app like MightyText allows them to get their SMS on their computer when their phone isn't at hand or how an LED notification light on their phone is great to let them know they have notifications without having to turn on their phone yet Apple is getting criticized today for adding some options/functionality to their ecosystem. Pot, meeting kettle...

I was merely pointing out that Samsung and others (thank you) have had heath apps long before Apple started to offer this..... that's all.

In am not criticizing Apple at all......show me where I did that? You said you had an issue with photostream....I provided you an alternative....that was all.
We all want options.......some are useless options......and all vendors offer useless options....

Im all for options. Can you get Nike or fitbit on your mobile device? Im just saying it because Apple sues like they do but then have no qualms about copying somebody else as they always have. They all copy each other which is actually fine with me. Just dont sue when you do it....and have been since the inception of your iPhone device came out after Samsung or whoever had one out with icons first.

Apple products are nice but as far as their phones they are playing catchup and why i havent had one for 3.5 years. Looks like they will always be behind and thats fine. Its great they are giving long overdue things to their users and it will bring some back.....even though it still is behind.

All many need to go back to them is a bigger screen. Me, i need much more than that.

sorry...I mis-understood. I did not get that this was for clients.....I thought it was for your family.

If im reading it right, its almost the same thing. You all have to use a family iTunes account and the one with the name on it pays for everything. Its cool that you can share amongst the computers in the house but you still cant share everything like you can on Android. And i dont mean just apps and such. You can share nearly everything on Android.

Also what if you and your Wife get divorced for example....wont she lose all her apps and whatnot if you take her off your family account...depending on who has the account? Somebody is going to get screwed there, lol.

Really, you can openly share purchases made on Android with other Google IDs? Man, I guess I'm out of touch. As far as the divorce scenario, yeah well, how do you think we and I'm sure, many others do it now. My Apple ID is used to share purchases on all of our household devices. I'd prefer each could have their own Apple ID and still share under a 'family plan', and am hoping that's what this family sharing will offer.

So yeah, if we get divorced, my wife's SOL. ;)

You can also sync everything on any computer using using Google Drive. I have it on my Nexus 5, my Windows Vista PC and my Yoga 11S Windows 8.

Obviously you can share amongst all of your own devices that are logged in using your Google account. What about your wife's, son's, daughter's devices? Do you just allow them to log into your Google ID? I'm looking for better sharing between Apple IDs and am hoping that's what this change will afford. I haven't read everything written today about all of the changes and admittedly am only going on the top level info I've seen.

Maybe if Apple wasn't constantly suing over stolen features, this topic wouldn't come up each year after WWDC when apple introduces "new features".

I have no problem with criticism levied against an Apple fan claiming any new features are 'revolutionary or innovative' when a competitor has already implemented them, but I don't recall seeing any of that in this thread, just excitement by some for some new functionality. If I missed someone touting new features from iOS as the first of their kind, I apologize for my criticism.

Sorry, is for my family and while I love 'em, I don't find setting up every device in our house up with my own personal accounts ideal, i.e. logging all of our phones, tablets, computers into my own Dropbox account. I'd prefer that each has their own account and that sharing between them was made easier. Sorry if I wasn't clear either.

Sorry, Jamezr, didn't mean to single you out, just saw your comment about the phone ringing notification as an example where people often advocated the availability of options, i.e. MightyText, yet when Apple offers a new option, is criticized.

I really am not trying to turn this into an Apple vs. whomever discussion but do admittedly get a little chapped when there's some hypocrisy floated about.

The OP only asked if iOS 8 interested anyone and nobody here that I've seen has tried claiming Apple has done anything innovative or revolutionary yet there have been quite a few knee jerk 'well Apple just copied it from XXX' or 'Android did that XXX long ago' and sorry, but that behavior, regardless of the perspective (pro or anti-Apple) gets a bit tiresome.

S Health came out first and they had a variation of it in the GS4 with the fitness tracker. It just got improved in the GS5.

S-Heath has been out longer than a year....then add in the time it was in development too.....

yeah....I saw some good things......but not enough to bring me back. But as the phone junkie that I am....I will probably try a 5 inch iPhone. But some of the prompts in Yosemite...like when a call it coming in or a text is coming in on the iphone.....to be prompted all the time on my MBP would be annoying. I supposed that can be turned off.....

Sorry, my bad I don't follow Samsung too much.

Never said those features were new. I said I was excited by these features because they are new to iOS and may push me back to the iPhone. And with the resizable thing in the new Xcode bigger screened iPhone is pretty much confirmed.

I thought it looked alright .... Some much needed revisions, could have done with more but maybe they are saving those for when new hardware is announced.

Open GL improvements were very interesting.

As expected, Apple copied Android features into ios8. And that's a good thing. Now, waiting to see the size of the iPhone 6. If it is roughly the size of the Moto X, I'm going to be tempted to get one, especially if I don't see a Lumia 930 come to AT&T!

Is there really anything that was COPIED - literally the same iteration - from Android to iPhone?

Yes some features, like ability to use 3rd party keyboards, have been taken "from Android" - but COPIED?

Are we sure we know what the word means? It's like the word "innovation" - its uttered so many times in the Android v iOS war, its lost its meaning amid the nonsense fanboys on both sides spew.

Any feature Apple implements moving forward will have the "Apple" design/polish on it. Same on the other side. While the feature itself may be the same or similar, the distinction in implementation is key.

Just had to get that out ;)

All devices are likely inspired by each other, it's the reason why competition is needed.

Apple have always had a great knack of taking a raw idea (even in existing commercial form) and refining it to the point it works for the masses.

Stock android needs features that Apple has had for years too in fairness, and when it eventually gets independent lock screen wallpapers and such people will just say it copied iOS and so it all repeats...

Boiling it down... so really this petty pissing match (that I felt was rather pathetically exacerbated by jibes at android during the conference) is utterly pointless and stupid.

Just be happy that with each platform pushing forward in similar directions the end result is a more refined and usable end user experience that we ALL benefit from....

Did I miss attachments in replies in mail?
Or better mail attachment support in any way?

I can't find anything about it.

Yes, you can dock writing an email to open another email and grab content and then go back to your docked email to paste / use grabbed content.

Interesting. Ideally I'd like to pull PDFs from drop box and push them into replies. I'll have to look for some video on that docking feature

In theory you should be able to do this natively now as it has integrated iCloud drive & third party. one drive / box / Dropbox services into the device so when you add attachment you'll be able to choose from any of your sources without having to go into the individual app.

- Still no file browser.
- Still can't download files from the web and manage them easily with a file explorer.
- Still can't tweak the UI with launchers, themes, etc.
- Still no emulators.
- Still no app for downloading torrents.
- Still no MxPlayer.
- Still no multiuser support in tablets.
- Still no on screen navigation bar.
- Still no back button.
- Still no true multitasking to allow apps like tTorrent to download torrents in the background while doing something else.
- Still no way to manage pictures by folders in the photos app I think.

Great seeing Swype, extensions, better AirDrop with Macs, widgets, etc.

I'm gonna be honest here, I give 0 ****s about who implemented which feature first. I use both OS's and I want both to improve.

Question, if you can already have all of those needs met in Android, why hope that they're implemented in iOS? You're basically hoping iOS becomes what Android is--why? What would including those in iOS do to make convince you to use it when you can already do all of it? Serious question.

Wow, even one drive?! Color me surprised. Thanks :)
