I prefer this - background wallpaper really does make a difference.

You could have Scarlet Johanson or your choice of Female who you like as your background and your icons would still be ugly, ....which was my point to show.

As i said, you wont ever please everybody.

Im pretty shocked that these minor aesthetics bother you guys so much :p

performance and functionality are king for me

does it bother me that most stock android setting menus are black while most google app setting menus are white? nah, I guess it'd be nice if it was consistent, but I'd rather they work on other things.

I'm curious to know what these deficiencies are that noone seems to specifically cite. Way to much talk in generalities.

I know spinedoc will say google now personal assistant functionality is subpar to Siri and that is fair enough, but what else do you guys have? Too many generalities!

I've never themed or modded aesthetics FWIW and I'm rooted android and JB iOS :p

Oh its not THAT big of a deal.....at this point both OSes (in my mind) really work pretty well and offer all the functionality I personally need at this point.

Just polish and small things here and there that I have gripes about. I'm really quite content.

I would move all the icons to the second page.......it would a travesty to cover her up with ANY icons! :D

Agreed on the last. Theming is great - I just don't care enough. It really wasn't a big deal on Android either.....definitely not the reason I switched back. Just would be nice for uniformity. All I'm saying.

Here's what my Android looked like before I switched back - I really liked the stark icon pack in Nova launcher.

Problem was, I missed some of the things from the stock Google Now launcher.

Everybody has their own taste so you will NEVER please everybody. I dont really think those new icons are better. Prefer something with more pop, or just a bit more elegance. These appeal icons to me, but i know it wont appeal to everyone:

Dear lord those are god awful. Yes I suppose everyone does have a preference but it seems like the general consensus is that at least that android look isn't pleasing to look at.

Yeah, im just tired of the square icons and the rounded or round ones appeal to me more and i dont like them to be so big as the Google Now icons are and iPhones are. Even the squarish ones i posted(the second one down) had imo a bit of elegance to them even if you didnt like the background, which was one of the KitKat themes.

I dont like the Google Launcher. Nova has been updated so the "ok Google" works on it. You have to enable it in the Nova settings.

I gotta say I've heard more complaints about the look of ios7 than anything else personally.

The normal critique of android is smoothness/ performance IMO. Ive honestly not heard much moaning about aesthetics.

The only issue I've ever had with iOS7 aesthetically is the white on off white theme and that they changed many of the functions into these tiny little buttons. It's just so white, and not dark on white, but white on off white. You can't see anything, and god forbid you are in a dark room. Otherwise I'm ok with it on a phone. Widgets would be nice, but only when they increase the screen size.

I love the GNL. I suspect that there is no launcher that you can swipe to google now right? it's locked down by google right?

I'm fine with the look of ios7 personally. I would be mad if I didn't have f.lux for nighttime use tho. So bright, all the time :p

At least the erratic android menus give you a break with a dark theme half the time :p

I don't got time to worry about icons

Aesthetics are important.

Yep, android is better only half the time. :D

You can put a widget for GN page, it displays kind of the same thing and when you click it, it takes you to the google now page, kind of an extra step but oh well. I use nova launcher because it's just so good and have my left hand page set with the GN widget taking up the entire page.

Of course they are but it feels like people are talking about gingerbread android.

I just don't think it's that bad. I don't yearn for any kind of visual redesign.

Give me more improvements like ART, APIs, etc.. Functional stuff

I think that they could fix up inconsistencies with Android. E.g. white status bar but holo blue settings app.

Not sure I get what you mean? The text in my settings menus is white.

The active toggles being blue bothers you?

And the brightness adjust and the volume adjusting...

I far preferred all holo blue than this miss mash of white and blue.

I had 4.3 running for the longest time because I didn't like the whites in the status bar.

But I literally do have OCD so that could be a reason.

Ah I see

That never really occurred to me :)

The change from blue in the status bar was odd for me at first. I dont really get why they did it. My hunch is to be more gender neutral or something. It's grown on me, but this is a good example of something that really isn't a priority for me :)

Fair enough though, I can understand that people appreciate this. Though I kind of like how the blue makes the eye trend toward the active settings. I assume you'd rather all white, which is fine too but I think there may be a design argument in leaving certain items colored. I agree on volume sliders though

Nova has gestures where you can choose swipe up or down, double tap and others to launch whatever you choose. If you choose Search, it brings up Google Now but you will have to hit the back button to get rid of the keyboard.
Apex has gestures too.

There are ROM's that go all white but they don't focus on usability personally for me, iOS 7 dos it right. again ymmv.

 I guess you are, .....Swipe right, swipe down, i just dont see a difference.

I like the way swiping immediately takes me to GN. I'm very picky I guess. I actually need to control this pickyness.
