Sorry but I find the Apple Watch Ultra absolutely ghastly

Having looked at most peoples photos of their new watches, I’m happy you’re all liking them but I think the majority won’t. Wearing a 49mm watch in this day and age is ABSURD unless you’re in the SAS or completely ripped and your arms are massive. Right now I’m seeing these watches just overtaking peoples wrists to the point it is comical, sorry but I think they just look awful.
I understand that you need more screen real estate to swipe and have apps etc, but the concept of apps and other add ons all integrated into a watch to a watch purist like myself doesn’t sit right with me at all. It’s gimmicky as hell and that’s why I’ll always stick with Rolex or JLC for my watches as they actually know how to make a proper watch
Im not alone in this thought either, below is a picture of someone with a 45mm apple Watch and the top comment is “looks like you have an iPad mini on your wrist” which is a perfect description, and the new ultra is 4mm bigger ! 😆😆
Just ridiculous honestly and Apple should be really contemplating who makes their decisions because most people would never sign off on a watch that big.

Well, oversized stuff is appealing to some folks these days, from watches to glasses to large phones there are plenty of examples. Maybe it will be a cyclical thing like many other fashion items.

I do agree that wearing a watch too big for your wrist isn't proper for fashion/daily use, bigger watches have always been common place in the "explorer" world though. Even respected watch companies make pretty big watches and until the last year or two did the watch movement go back toward smaller watches like 38 and 40mm.

I predicted this though, you'll have people buy a huge Apple watch with tiny wrists just to go to the grocery store and they don't care how it looks. Good for them I guess...

You are absolutely allowed to not like any device, we all have different likes and dislikes.
And I can see why the Ultra may divide peoples opinion.

But for me whilst I really liked my Series 6 44mm AW it always felt a little small.
Having been used to wearing the larger Victorinox and Tag watches 44mm seemed a little small.
For me the Ultra takes me to size that is much more appealing.
Having worn my Ultra since delivery on Fri 23rd Sept I am very pleased with it.

Whilst the size charts are interesting they do not take into account personal preference and tastes.
I think the right size is whatever a person feels comfortable with.
I do not expect everyone to like my choice, but equally I respect others choices.

The screen is really useful in daily use, and great for my running and other workouts.
But as I say, it is your right and privilege to not like it. It is great that we can agree to disagree without falling out over it. 👍

You appear to have a larger wrist than most people, the 44 sits nicely on your wrist in that photo . I’d still say the 49mm would be too big but your probably be able to wear it better than most , the max I can go to on my wrist is 41 wwhich is what my oyster perpetual is. I’ve tried a 44 on and it buries me

I agree with your size suggestions for a watch of the type you typically wear. If all it really does is show time, there is no need for it to be too large. The hands would be easy enough to see. A smart watch however with the multiple complications wants for more screen space to make the elements large enough to see at a glance. If it were built to primarily show the time it could be smaller like a mechanical. The Ultra is large for a reason and only looks ridiculous to those that do not prefer the look. To all others, it's just fine. I am in the later group. I prefer a watch thats smart over one that is dressy even having a couple of mechanical dressy watches myself. The person in the first comment you shared does have a small wrist and would do fine with a smaller size for a better ratio but if their preference is a larger display why not.

I'm sure people don't like my choice in cars or my computers. They don't drive them or use them, so who cares? Same for the watch or even a suit. You don't have to wear it, so don't worry about it.

Its understandable that people with little wrists might not like it. It’s also understandable that people with larger wrists that want the size would love it.

Op you seem more suited to wear the 38mm Apple Watch. That’s fine for you, but for others it looks like a bracelet.

Yep you hit the nail. Apple fans love thin and flimsy designs. They love the iMac 2012 and 2015 MacBook and iPhone 6 and MacBook Pro 2016.

They just want thin and small with no ports.

I agree that wearing a watch the size of a dinner plate does not look good. Unless there is a tactical reason to do so (e.g., driving, piloting an airplane, hiking, perhaps health reason in the case of the Apple Watch etc.), I cannot understand why people wear such things.

Nevertheless, wearing a large sports watch, however gauche, is acceptable these days in the context of casual/sports wear. I think that people who wear such things while wearing a suit or other formal wear know that it looks absurd but just do not care about their appearance (a regrettable trend) or, alternatively, crave an attention grabber for insecurity reasons.

It's disgusting to see the same one or two people posting these negative comments over and over again across several threads when 98% (approx.) of the reactions to this watch have been VERY favorable.

I think the key is, Apple didn't stop selling the other 2 sizes. Just like there are those who think a phone bigger than an SE is crazy, I hated dropping down to the X, and was glad to be back on a larger Pro Max when I moved to the 13. My big meat hooks are useless on a small phone/watch.

Get the size that fits you.
