The thing is, this is a discussion forum where most people are Apple customers to some degree. Products are discussed in depth, product preferences, purchases and the like. There’s no rule that every topic has to contain purely positive opinions and if there was, wouldn’t it be boring? I’d imagine those here that don’t like the Ultra for whatever reason they have specified, have indeed voted with their wallets. Unless of course they are punishing themselves by buying a product they don’t like and have no intention of using. Comments and opinions are free though and I’d say welcome to add balance to any thread.
What would you recommend?

I wonder am I only one to who ultra is pretty meh and I don't understand all the hype around it.
It looks okay not much better or worse than normal AW and who knows maybe I will buy one when my Curren AW dies maybe not.

Having looked at most peoples photos of their new watches, I’m happy you’re all liking them but I think the majority won’t. Wearing a 49mm watch in this day and age is ABSURD unless you’re in the SAS or completely ripped and your arms are massive. Right now I’m seeing these watches just overtaking peoples wrists to the point it is comical, sorry but I think they just look awful.
I understand that you need more screen real estate to swipe and have apps etc, but the concept of apps and other add ons all integrated into a watch to a watch purist like myself doesn’t sit right with me at all. It’s gimmicky as hell and that’s why I’ll always stick with Rolex or JLC for my watches as they actually know how to make a proper watch
Im not alone in this thought either, below is a picture of someone with a 45mm apple Watch and the top comment is “looks like you have an iPad mini on your wrist” which is a perfect description, and the new ultra is 4mm bigger ! 😆😆
Just ridiculous honestly and Apple should be really contemplating who makes their decisions because most people would never sign off on a watch that big.

I agree 100 percent. I have no intention of buying one but it is the ugliest and chunkiest device Apple have created in a long time. Steve Jobs would have never have given it the go-ahead.

I didn’t like it very much from pictures, but I got one last weekend to try out. I wanted to give it a proper few days to see what I think. So far, I’m liking it. I’ve now adjusted to it and my 41mm steel Series 7 feels super small. I still love it and will keep it no matter what. I have several nice bands for it and love the silver steel.

I have wrists on the smaller side, but I don’t think it looks bad size-wise. There’s a lot about the shape of your wrist that goes into it, too. Also, so many people are taking very close up, too-down pictures that make any Watch look even larger.

I loved it but it was causing wrist pain and in general was not comfortable. I returned it and purchased a S8 45. Even the S8 looks a little large, but I’m happy with it.

My two cents: I finally saw one in the wild at work and asked the wearer what he thought. Big mountain biker so obviously it's like a dream come true for trails for him. I was surprised at how much I liked it in person. Thought it was the ugliest thing they've made in a long time in press photos. Don't discount it till you've seen it/had it on.

OP and others in the thread with similar views may feel differently after seeing the “Show off your Apple Watch thread,” a lot of recent pics there (to me) make it look pretty dang good.

It’s interesting watching the views on the Ultra. I remember getting an AW1 very early on and it divided opinion. The Ultra seems to be no different. For me watches have always been a very personal thing from a design/fashion perspective.

We’ve perhaps become used to Apple Watches becoming so readily seen that any major change would be seen as dividing opinion.

With the Ultra the design change has been cleverly linked to a purpose change. The Ultra is not, today, mainstream it’s aimed at a niche while having one foot in the mainstream camp. This crossover may require refining and could result in greater or less divergence from the core AW product.

Personally, my guess is more divergence but who knows…🫣

I’d agree but Ive seen people wearing these monstrosities with suits on so yeah….that’s that theory out of the way
Men wear sneakers with suits now too and women wear bras as shirts. You can't dictate someone's taste or lack of it.

Or change of tastes - In victorian days pink was a boys' colour.
Hems go up; hems go down. Ties get wide; ties get thin.

Though, increasingly, fashion seems to be less standardized. Not sure I’d say, “casual,” because it’s hard to consider sneakers that cost more than traditional dress shoes “casual,” especially considering their owners often give them more care and attention than an Army private does his boots. But it would definitely be fair to say that the aesthetics of casual clothing currently have a strong influence on the aesthetics of both high fashion and office wear.

It’s also worth considering that today’s most formal wear for men, the tuxedo, was, not all that long ago, the most casual attire that a “landed gentleman" would be seen in public wearing — barely one step above what he’d putter around the house in before bedtime. Today’s three-piece suit would have been acceptable for the hired help when in public-facing positions.

The latest fashion trend on campus for women seems to be shorts and halter top so thin and light and tight that I’m sometimes not all that sure that they’re not simply body paint. And many of those who’re still “dressed up” with skirts, long sleeves, high-heeled shoes, and the like, still have bare midriffs.

Since the general trend for the past century and more has been towards becoming increasingly casual by the previous generation’s standards, I’m not exactly sure what the trendline points to from here. There doesn’t seem to be much room left …

You are only an idiot really for buying anything if you can't afford it - If you can afford a Tesla made of unicorn jelly by Musk's own hand then buy one...I grew up in the punk era and I thought we had dumped all these societal victorian judgements about appearance some time ago....obviously not. Although where I work (a very conservative retailer) has public facing workers with face tattoos and nose or tongue piercings so yeah it probably has !
