Everyone has a right to an opinion and that is why there are so many choice - clothing, haircuts, jewelry, and watches, to name a few.

For what it is worth here is my thoughts on the Ultra. I am a small to medium wrist female. The Ultra looks huge on my wrist but I wanted to try one because of the battery life. I swim a mile 5 to 6 times a week. My S3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 series would loose 20-25 percent battery charge with each workout. The Ultra uses 5%.

Yes, the Ultra is heavier and bigger, but I have been pleasantly surprise to find it doesn't bother me. Plus, in the past I had to wear my watch loose so it would slide around on my wrist or it would irritate my skin. I have found I can wear the Ultra firmly on my wrist and my skin has no issues. For the first time I wore it to bed and had no skin issues. I don't know what is different but for me it works better on my skin. I also love the flat screen as everything looks bigger and at my age that is a good thing for these old eyes!

I don't find it ugly so much as having a utilitarian look which works fine for me.

The more I see of the Ultra the more sure I am that my decision to cancel my order and get the AW8 instead. All my old bands from my AW5 look just as good on the 8 as they did on the 5.

At some point, far far into the future, I plan to add a new Black/Gray Trail Loop.

The watch looks like a regular Apple Watch to me? Not sure who took those pictures but the display didn’t seem to be large at all.

It does does have alot of “height”.

Nice strawman argument! It happens in almost every thread but I think this one was particularly good.
Yet you're absolutely eating up the comparison of the Ultra to the JLC when the more appropriate comparison is clearly the Submariner, Seamaster, Speedmaster, etc. But sure, you go on and complain about strawmen.

It does get a lot of positive attention where I live in the West US. I love its outdoors adventure look. Aggressive but nice. People come up to me at events and ask about it and seem shocked that a petite French gal has such a thing.

I’m guessing they just want to check out the petite French girl. 😂

Huh? Have you even read through the thread? I did not introduce the JLC into the conversation (the OP did) and I specifically stated what you seem to be suggesting -- that the Ultra is not a sports watch. So, there really is no argument (strawman or otherwise). The post I referred to as strawman argument had to do with "mandatory purchases" -- something the OP never clearly never said or even suggested. You see the differences?

I am jealous of guys with wrists big enough for this. I would love one but I have quite small wrists. I would love the functionality and especially the multi-band GPS. My 41mm series 8 (midnight) will be here tomorrow, unless fedex screws up again (likely).

If the only thing keeping you from getting the ultra is you think it's too big for you, I suggest you give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it on at the store. It was big, yes, but wearable. Apple states that the ultra fits wrists from 130mm, and I think they are right about that.

This. I’d advise @usmaak to give it a try. It’s a big chonker of a watch but somehow it does sit nicely on smaller wrists.

My friends think I traded one ghastly looking watch for another. I guess my tastes run a bit strange for them.

Good for you on your fitness dedication with respect to swimming.

I found that lap based pool swim workouts on a Series 6 seem to deplete battery more than other workout modes, even GPS based ones. I’d lose roughly 30% charge during a mile swim, but my guess is that I had paused the workout to check something, which turned off the screen lock for the rest of the swim, and the water and arm motion was activated the screen repeatedly.

Watches have always been subjected to personal taste. It’s no great shakes that some love the Ultra, and others find it horrifying. Like you, it’s a workout platform for me, but I bet that even though I own and usually rotate mechanical watches, due to the Ultra’s excellent battery life, I end up wearing it more often that I projected.

Also think that large watches on smaller wrists can be charming. Keep swimming!

It’s quite fascinating the amount of time “a select few” will invest in trying to convince others that a product placed out of their reach by self imposed physiological synapse, psychological barrier, or a more simple means like financial ideology, already has another product in niche, and so on, and digress over and over in such a passionate matter, of how their points are somehow “relevant” to the majority of people, when in fact, just moving on and not purchasing it would give them the best result. Mind boggling how many things can be juxtaposed to make a point relevant. From what I see, apple has had a huge success with it, and their pre market research is paying off. But, the amount of effort given to convince others that the watch is somehow a failed ugly product is truly fascinating. If it were me, I would just vote with my wallet and move on or at least offer another product in that category that is so much better I felt like letting others know why. Mosh pits over a 1mm. I have to read these! Lol😆👍😆
The minutia over which the Rolex crowd launches crusades is staggering. Pages and pages of discussions, most turning into personal attacks over something as trivial as the font used on the watch dial.

The thing is, this is a discussion forum where most people are Apple customers to some degree. Products are discussed in depth, product preferences, purchases and the like. There’s no rule that every topic has to contain purely positive opinions and if there was, wouldn’t it be boring? I’d imagine those here that don’t like the Ultra for whatever reason they have specified, have indeed voted with their wallets. Unless of course they are punishing themselves by buying a product they don’t like and have no intention of using. Comments and opinions are free though and I’d say welcome to add balance to any thread.

The OP, in 70-80 years, can still be rocking that JLC, which will be keeping good time if maintained. The Ultra surely will not. So there's that if anyone cares about lasting durability, heirlooms, etc.

That's the (somewhat) unfortunate thing about technology: improvements make things obsolete eventually, but it's these improvements that make our lives all the more better! As far as the Apple Watch is concerned, the only thing about it that can outlast the watch itself is the band that's attached to it, with proper care (especially the steel bands)!

Ordered the AWU twice. Canceled twice. Like an upgrade of my S6 but I can’t get over the form factor of the AWU. Also, prefer 45mm size. Hence, I will hang on another year and wait for S9 or AWU2…

Same here: I’m hanging onto my Series 7 gold stainless for another year as I like the look WAY better (especially with the gold Milanese Loop). This is actually the FIRST time I’m not upgrading since getting my first Apple Watch back when the original “Series 0” came out in 2015, and I’ve owned EVERY generation (both stainless and ceramic models)! It’s for reasons like these as to why I look forward to seeing what Series 9 will bring, especially since it’s supposed to bring some more significant improvements compared to what we got this year (at least from a Series 7 owner’s perspective)!

I got my AWU coming from a 41mm series 7 and I’m one of those types who hate large watches but the AWU actually fits well. My wife says it looks good on me so IDGAF what others think because if the wife likes it that’s all that matters!

I have no qualms with how it looks.

I do however have qualms with how absurdly gigantic it is. I think the 41mm is already pushing it for size.

The 36 to 39mm Omegas I used to wear were my ideal.
