I'm with CC on this.

Freedom of speech is not an excuse for provocation. South park pretty blatantly provoked the muslim community, and they got the expected response. Just because you are allowed by law to say what you like, doesn't mean you always should.

Even US courts take criminal actions in context. "Victims" who provoke assaults on themselves are not blameless, even if what they did was perfectly legal. This is not to absolve responsibility from the attacker, by the way.

So portraying Muhammed = provoking assaults? It is not like they only focus on Islam?

Seriously, these death threats should be punishable.

Ya but on the flip note what do they expect? They behead us and anyone who is friends with us, they burn U.S. flags all the time and shout death to America all over the place. Their actions are much more severe then what was on south park. And don't even get me started on sharia law. That **** is poison to the world.

They get angry because a picture of muhammed was shown because hes sacred. Well in parts of India cows are sacred and no one gets angry when anyone eats them.

Sorry but I'm of the mind to keep your beliefs to yourself. If you get offended easily, don't watch south park.

Unfortunately these radicals give a bad name to muslims everywhere. I work with a ton of people and have friends who are muslim and they don't express ANY of the views these radicals do.

Exactly, the First Amendment to the constitution protects OFFENSIVE speech. There is no point in protecting non-offensive speech people. Matt and Trey should take their show to HBO.

What would taking their show to HBO accomplish? Because it would be less offensive somehow on a paid network?? That's stupid. Someone would b*tch about it still.

Here's an idea. If people don't like it, they don't have to watch it. No ones forcing anyone. This is why censorship in this country has become so ridiculous, because people want choices like this made for them instead of doing the job for yourself & your kids. It's why I can't watch a movie on cable anymore because it's been bleeped & cut up all to hell & back.

In other words folks, pirate the sh*t out of these episodes.

CC did NOT provoke the Muslim community.

Most Muslims are peaceful people
Radicals =/= Muslim community

I respectfully disagree. South Park isn't exactly tactful, but it often has some good discussion provoking episodes. Why should everyone not show an image of a character just because one religion deems it wrong? It's disgusting what CC did. They bent to the will of extortionists.

Apparently terrorism works.

I agree, this is getting ridiculous. It's not that they were blatantly attacking muhammed, hell Buddha was doing lines of cocaine and Jesus was looking at porn...

So how far are we gonna let them dictate what we say or what we show if it offends then turn way, no one is forcing them to watch.

I see a future app in the works..

Wanna see what the prophet Muhammad looks like?

There's an app for that!

It'll be a giant censor bar

This act of censorship disappoints me. South park has been a great show for making fun of anybody and everybody. I believe that anyone can be made fun of. There can't be exceptions, or you might as well censor everything.

Apparently terrorism works.

It's a tool of everyday business for the Governments of just about every nation represented here I bet.

Ya but on the flip note what do they expect? They behead us and anyone who is friends with us, they burn U.S. flags all the time and shout death to America all over the place.

This is an odd one isn't it? I wonder if there's any history of interference in their countries by someone? Mmmm let me think...

Well think about this...

Not censoring would have just gotten everyone a quick laugh how silly islam is and forget about it right after the show.

So Comedy Central did actually a good thing censoring the episodes, because that puts muslims and their mumbo jumbo stoneage religion into really bad light, even more than it is already.

So good job Comedy Central! :D

[rant] It truly is sad to see that CC bent to the will of terrorists. As someone who fought to ensure the rights that we Americans have, I am super pissed off. I hate to bring unrelated topics up, but with health care reform passed and the imminent threat of immigration reform looming ominously over our heads, It scares me a great deal to know these radicals will be allowed free reign in our country. It scares me to know that a "threat" to someone's safety is enough to scare someone to censor free speech. As stated, I have friends who died to protect everyone's freedoms and it royally pisses me off when CC does something like this. It is like CC took a trip to Arlington and pissed on my brother's graves. [/rant]

I have yet to tune my tv to CC, and will not do so until they release something that explains in great detail why they decided to take the route they did, let's not p*s*y out there CC.

another note, I accept that not all Muslims are terrorists. In fact, it was the kind people in Iraq that gave me food and even gave me movies and electronics to help pass the long months. I always enjoyed the locals, it was always the ones shooting at me that pissed me off.

one last thing...

I think randy's portrayal is probably the closest to what he actually looks like.

Randall "Randy" Marsh can be found in South Park, Colorado if you really want to threaten someone silly terrorists.

These people threatening are Muslim radicals, not Muslim. It is true that the prophet of the Islam faith must not be portrayed anywhere, not even by Muslims themselves. It is considered offensive no matter how he is portrayed.

Then again it's the 21st century and these things should not such a major issue these days, but extremists of any kind always ruin the world for the rest of us.

What do you mean "not even by Muslims themselves"? It should read "only by Muslims themselves". If someone doesn't believe in Islam then he is just another person to them and not entitled to special rules.

For those of you who think the episode should have aired despite the death threats, put your money where your mouth is: fire up Sketchbook, draw a picture of Muhammed, and post it in this thread along with your name and address. If you don't have the guts to do it yourself, then you shouldn't criticize others for backing down.

There's a flash game out there called 'Faith Fighter' that's sort of fun and shows a depiction of the prophet to boot. With a bit of tuning and total rewrite of the code (flash, *sigh*) it'd make for a decently fun app.

The point is, you should never give in to extremism, because that just validates them & gives them a reason for being. And they're completely insane anyways. I mean, how sane can someone be if they threaten to kill you for even showing a picture of whatever thing that person happens to worship?? Thats just not something you even want to acknowledge because its giving the loonies all the power, when they should have zero.

A missed point in these episodes is that they could show Buddha doing lines of coke & Jesus being addicted to internet porn & its OK, but they couldnt even say Muhammad's name because of some radicals somewhere across the world made some threats. Thats f'ed up & shows you how ridiculous it all is.

No, there is no censorship on a paid network. That's the point.
