Will whisper this but I'm actually very happy with my new M2 11 inch iPad Pro.
Sure, it doesn't have the latest display and is basically the same as the M1 version but it still looks good and performs effortlessly with what I throw at it. Yes it could be improved but I know it'll serve me for many, many years without issues.
And every Apple release has that 'something' missing ready for the next product cycle. Always a 'nice to have' kept for later...
Allowed my faithful and still very adequate 2018 version to pass down the family and I got the M2 with a very acceptable and sizeable discount, much needed given price increases in the UK. Now I suggest pricing is a real issue but that applies across many Apple products now.
So no buyer's remorse here, each to their own given your individual needs but definitely not a bad product, quite the reverse and I fully expect the M2 and I to happily co-exist for many years.

Whether it's a bad product depends on who you ask. In your case, it may be beneficial. In my case it wouldn't be, especially with the cost increase. My M1 iPad Pro also does things effortlessly with what I throw at it - it's all personal.

You yourself said you got it on an acceptable and sizeable discount - without this, would your opinion have been the same?

Of course you would be happy upgrading from the 2018. The complaints mainly apply to how pointless it is compared to the M1. And the defense is, "It's not meant for M1 owners." That also misses the point. The point is there is so little difference that they might as well keep offering the M1. And you would be just as happy upgrading from the 2018 to the M1 as you would to the M2. I think both the M1 and M2 are excellent devices, but the M2 is redundant.

Eh, I don't think the M2 is redundant. Improvements of 10% single core, 20% multicore, 25% GPU and better power efficiency across the board is actually very good year over year. I sure would prefer an updated M2 iPad over an M1 if i was buying at Apple's prices.

With that said, I love "S" year updates like this. Just picked up a couple of top spec M1 iPad's at a huge discount. I don't feel like Apple's new product pricing on iPad's has made sense for me for a long time.

Only if the M1 was discounted. At the same $799-2399 price points depending on configuration, if I were in the market right now, I’d prefer to have the latest chipset.

One of the reasons I didn’t upgrade to the 2020 iPad Pro was because it was basically the same as the 2018 just with LiDAR (1TB, A12X/Z, 6GB). The M2 may be a smaller upgrade over M1 but it’s an upgrade nonetheless. We don’t want to see something like Intel where the CPUs basically saw no improvements for a long time.

Glad you're happy with it! My 2018 is still performing great for me. Maybe next year will be when I get another Pro.

I went from an M1 to an M2 and I’m also very happy. There’s just a lot of people on here who like to whine

And then everyone would be complaining until 2024 that they went 3 full years without an update, and why can’t they at least put the M2 chip in it, and it’s old tech so buy something else, Apple’s not what they used to be and they’re going to lose ground to competitors, and on and on.

It’s a marginal update, as it should be for a mature device. And honestly, comments like this feel like sour grapes from M1 owners who can’t justify buying a new device but really want to have “the latest and greatest” as if that means something.

Nope.

For ages we complained about no processor bumps. Apple did the logical thing here, this is a very nice processor and graphics bump.
Nobody has complained in the past few years about the processor power.

On the contrary, the continuous complaints about the IPad are about how powerful it is, but how limited by the software.

There's a difference between the product "being bad" and the update not seen as "worth it" for a user specifically, the M2 iPad Pro is better than the prior model? yes, yes it is, it has a faster processor, so, if you were to buy your first tablet, and you were offered the M1 & M2 models, you would pick the M2, would you not?

The M2 iPad Pro is arguably the best tablet money can buy, so it's not a bad product but actually the best available, and better than the ones before it. Not having everything you want or everything you expect it to have in the future doesn't mean it's not the best to date and the best available. Of course there may be little value for it as an "update" if you're coming from a recent model, which is a different thing altogether. Some people even feel happy when a new model doesnt improve as much due to their existing model feeling current still.

It's not a bad product, it's just a little disappointing. I think many were hoping for things the other iPads have, like the mini LED display, and the new camera position of the base iPad. It's good that they put the M2 in there, but it's basically a non-update for a product that was already lagging behind other products in the lineup.

I’m enjoying mine. It’s going to be awhile before anything major happens then I will upgrade. My hunch is the 12.9 inch gets landscape camera first and 11 will get it the following year. Same with OLED

My sister is very happy with her new iPad pro 11 (256GB 5G) 2021, that she bought a month ago for less than €1100 (upgrading from a base iPad 6), instead of waiting for the M2, which is now €1400... (with the iPad 10 with the same specs being €990) and the M1 now no longer in stores... I had told her to wait, but she was too impatient and... good for her this time... Now even the pencil is €20 more expensive....

You should like it!! It is the fastest tablet on Earth!! I would have liked some new colors but honestly what could they really change unless they were putting a new screen in them which all the rumors said that won't happen until late 2023 at the earliest and most likely 2024.

The iPP is a really nice tablet and the M2 is a seriously good processor. I just can't justify spending the money on one personally with what I use an iPad for. I do love my 5th gen air. Of course if we see the 2021 iPP air get to $599 or less I might just snag one and sell my air.

Enjoy your beautiful tablet and don't listen to the haters. People will always find something to complain about.

Not trying to insult anyone but I think the 10th gen iPad is what has me a little flabbergasted. It is a decent base model iPad but it is not priced like one. Any iPad with m series chip is going to last a long time and you can get the 5th gen air on sale for right around $500 so paying $50 less to get an air gapped screen, weird pencil one support, no anti-reflective coating is just a head scratcher for me. Apple should have charged $50 more than the base model 9 at $379 and holiday sales for $349 and then it would have been at a decent price point. The 9th gen you can get for $269 new and it has a headphone jack! I mean a13 vs a14 is not as big a difference. They should have at least put an a15 in it for the cost. You can get an Air 4th gen for $349 at Walmart. Lol.

I just ordered (10/31) an M1 12.9" iPP 1TB for $1,299 + CA State tax, so I thought $450 was a pretty good discount. I originally picked up the same exact iPP from Costco just two weeks prior for $1,375 + tax, but saved more via Amazon - so now I'm just returning the Costco one.
