There were various episodes of TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager where we saw older versions of the crew due to rapid aging disease or time travel. I was always amused by the work of the makeup artists looking so different from how the actors really look after all these years.
Guess they had to still look recognisably like their normal characters?

The one that gets me is LeVar. with the beard he looks like Geoffrey from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

And for mid 70s, Gates looks GOOD!!

BL.

Maybe that's the look they were going for :)

And Gates...she'll be hot at any age.

Jeri Ryan, at 55, is lookin' good too.

Looks like we're getting a Starfleet Academy series as well.

BL.
It is a great premise truly. I would much rather see how Janeways and Picards rise up or a wild one like Kirk and all the odd tests they go through and perhaps ride-along away missions. Good to see which people rise to other potential positions such as engineers and more. Just please keep it in the same world as STNG, DS9, Voyager and not this rot we see 900 year into the future stuff.

You know, overall, I liked Discovery. But I still don't get their decision to "re-imagine" some things, like the look of the Klingons. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

What's a Star Trek series if it doesn't mess with the Klingon appearance?

I like that Discovery introduced better hand-to-hand fighting action and got rid of the much ridiculed "double axe handle".

A good series. TNG and DS9 didn't mess with the movie versions of the Klingons. Both are among the best pick of the litter. I give DS9 a slight nod on account of them fixing the Ferengi.😉

They messed with the Trill though.🤨 What happened to the cranial ridges? Usually, I'd get all hissy about the change. But Terry Farrell with cranial ridges or Terry Farrell with Kriosian spots. I think the made the right call.😍

I've never really been a fan of the Academy idea, but if they get a cast with as good a chemistry as, say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then I'll be interested. It really does depend on who they get and how good the characters are at carrying the show.

And what they do. A "college" series, with them running around campus, might not be interesting enough. Sort of like when DS9 started, they thought staying on the station was getting boring, so they brought in the Defiant. Star Trek is still best when it's a crew on ship. And if they show them going off on missions, tehn what's the point of an academy? It will be a tough balance.

You can still do like a training Vessel. I don't know if you watch Prodigy, but it seems like that idea might be coming to that show in the second season.

Does anybody know if Wesley Crusher will show up in series three of Picard? It seems like something is missing with his brief part in series two.

I gotta believe he will get a quick cameo. But who knows. I didn't expect to see Tuvok and there he was. Sort of.

I'll bet Janeway makes an appearance. She's been mentioned several times already.

Being a campus, lots of storylines can go on with not everyone wanting to be one day, captain. Engineers, scientists and so on as well. Add to the mix those 'chosen' by Section 31 as one story thread, the top cadets and all their antics, and the list goes on. Might have a short run story of infiltration in the Academy. DS9 can only go so far as a static location and off-the-station stories flushed in what was going whether it is local planets, space flight, factions who are foes and so on. An Academy show would likely want to do similar. I admit my only concern is the level of writing and straying from good storytelling to ensure certain 'things' are inserted in.

Prodigy is very good and you are right, season 2 looks like it will be a training ship scenario under Admiral Janeway.

That would be news.. Are Mulgrew and Ryan amicable again? There was tension between them on the set previously..

And if they do it, for $DEITY sake, could one of these series bring back Barclay!? 😁

Yes, I believe Kate Mulgrew actually apologized for it. She kinda placed the blame on the producers, who diminished hers and other characters roles in favor of Seven - which waas the source of the friction. But as I said, I don't know who might be coming back. Ironically, Janeway and Seven were the best characters, it would be a shame if one/both weren't a part of it. (OK, the Doctor was a prety good character too) But I think Mulgrew would be the most likely to return of the two. Jeri Ryan may be burned out on ST after three years of Picard.

Picard last night was good. LOL Data:

"Greetings USS Titan. This is your friendly positronic pissed off security system, back online. Unwanted guests, monologuing protoplasms, I'm initiating an immediate ship change."

So I see clips of season 3 of Picard on YT, and I have one question.

Why the hell is it so dark? No, not thematically, but visually. Every time I see a clip, its incredibly dark.

I can see darkness (or light) being used to set a tone, like in Star Trek Nemesis, where Shinzon's ship is dark. It creates a sense of foreboding and danger. In Picard, it looks like they forgot to pay the electricity bill and the lights are off.

Well, naval ships operate in darkness at night, or with red lighting. And being in space (aka, "darkness") it would not be unreasonable for a spaceship to do the same - to have more subdued lighting. The Enterprise D looked like it was a hotel and not a starship.

I think it's some new Hollywood craze. They did a dark--the sea on a moonless night dark*--episode in House of Dragons. There are a few other TV series that did the low key episodes. Low key in photography can be great depending upon the subject. Low key in video? What's the point of video if everything looks the same?😒

*Okay, not THAT dark, but still can't see what's going on dark.

I understand your point you're making but the reason why they operated in the dark or with a red light was two fold. The red light was such that they could see without affecting their eyesight when going outside. Also being blacked out was needed as the enemy could easily see them.

In space, there's no need to protect your night vision, nor would the need to have a blacked out ship when the distances are so vast, i.e., they're seen on sensors well before they can be seen visually.

Its not like they producers are going for realism, since there are no faster then light ships. JJ Abram's Star trek uses quite a bit of light - the bridge is blaringly bright compared to TNG/TOS.

I think it ruins the watching experience, but then I'm not a paying customer so I have zero say. I only see snippets that make their way onto YT.
