Installing sc2 beta

Hi, I recently received the beta key for Starcraft II. As mentioned, I am running on a Mac. I downloaded the downloader from my battle.net account, and after a few hours I completed downloading. So, I have a file named Starcraft II Beta, and I put it into my Applications folder. After this is done, I thought it was complete, so I tried to open Starcraft II, SC2, and SC2Switcher that were in the file. Starcraft II and SC2 wouldn't open, and instead gave me a message: The Blizzard Launcher must be in the same folder as a Blizzard game.
I opened SC2Switcher, which opened the application, and prompted me to enter my account name and password. I tried putting in my email, but when I did, it gave me the same error message. Thinking something got messed up since I didn't move any of the files, I uninstalled and reinstalled, but the same thing happened. Any help from a mac pro?

PeaceFroggy, SC2 is pretty picky about its main folder remaining intact. Make sure you don't move the application outside the folder, and leave it as it is.

That said, I think that happened to me the first time I tried installing SC2. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and it worked just fine. Might just take a few tries.

Starcraft 2 Beta Download

I got pre ordered Starcraft 2 Yesterday, and I created a BattleNet account and started the download.
At the end of the download i click play, and it says "Unable to run starcraft 2. Required files are missing. Please reinstall Starcraft2".

I have reinstalled the game 3 times, and the same thing happens. I feel that my mac has some sort of firewall that automatically thinks this game is "junk" as if it were a junk email.

You have two problems, first of all as stated before SC 2 requires Leopard at least, and since you have Tiger on your Mini I assume it's the one with Intel GMA 950 graphics. The game won't run on that, sorry.

So even if I get leopard, the game still wont work?
If not, any suggestions on how to make it work or a new good/cheap computer to buy?

Thanks

Yes, the 950 is too weak. Buying Snow Leopard won't do you any good.

Since you already have a keyboard/mouse/monitor, you could build a pretty solid PC for $400 that could handle SC2 on high perfectly fine. Use your Mini for work, and then switch to the PC for everything else.

The other option is to buy a replacement Mini. The 9400M in the new Mini isn't that great, and can only run the game well on low settings. I expect the Mini will get a bump very soon, though, with the new Macbook's 320M. That can handle medium settings.

I would build a new computer, but I am low on options for money.
I hear that you can play with leopard, but it will be slow as hell. (with GMA 950 Graphic Card)
I don't want to buy leopard when it's just going to run out of date in less than a year.
I wont mind buying a new laptop, or perhaps building one? Any suggestions?

I think you mean snow leopard. Don't worry, 10.7 won't be coming out for a while. And it's only a $29 upgrade. But it won't solve your Starcraft problem!

If you want a laptop that will play SC2, the white MacBook will be coming out very soon with a 320M (see front page.) But the cheapest option would be to build a $400 PC.

17" macbook pro 2.8 unibody

I have a 2.8GHz core 2 duo unibody 17" macbook pro. I set the energy saver for higher performance mode, so it's using the 9600M GT. It runs well at the native settings (1920x1200) with everything on their defaults. However, it activates the fans on my laptop almost immediately and they stay on as long as I play. Lowering the settings doesn't seem to help with this problem. Maybe using the 9400M would generate less heat? Or maybe I can cap the framerate somehow?

When I play Starcraft 2, I have to keep my fans running at 6000 RPM the whole time. My system overheats if I don't. I really hope they improve performance. I know I'm gaming on a laptop but something seems wrong. This is the first time I have had a game overheat my MacBook Pro.

Is it the Core i5 or Core 2 Duo?

When I play SC2 on my 15" i7 MBP the fans ramp up to a maximum of around 4800 and my CPU temp stabilizes around 155 F. The bottom enclosure never exceeds 92 F even after a few hours of playing on top of my wood desk. I'm impressed with how well it dissipates heat during heavy load.

Core 2 Duo. Good to hear your newer i7 machine runs better. I'm jealous. Well this concerns me because I can play WOW on Ultra settings all night but after just 10 minutes of Starcraft 2... crash. I'm hoping this has more to do with the fact that its still in Beta and not my system.

does anyone lag when they minimize their SC2 and go on chrome or anything? it lags for me <_<. does not lag when i play HON(heroes of Newerth)

sc2 up for anyone? my friends (using windows) its working for them butnot for me (mac)

it is playable, do you mean the white unibody macbook? my brother has been playing it on his for the past week, just have to play it on lower settings, but very playable and does not lag the game

I'm buying the 15" i5 MBP later this month and I'm wondering if anyone is playing SC2 with that setup in OSX with great performance. Thanks!

Once Blizzard lets us Mac users cap the framerate you shouldn't have heat problems.

Booting into Windows will dramatically improve your performance, but you should be able to play it on high fine.
