i received a key a few days ago yet i the "connect" button doesn't light up when i enter my battle.net user name.... is anyone else having this issue? is the beta still running?

Is it the Core i5 or Core 2 Duo?

When I play SC2 on my 15" i7 MBP the fans ramp up to a maximum of around 4800 and my CPU temp stabilizes around 155 F. The bottom enclosure never exceeds 92 F even after a few hours of playing on top of my wood desk. I'm impressed with how well it dissipates heat during heavy load.

how do you check this?

Im running starcraft on both my i7 15" macbook pro and on my studio xps i7 720qm 4gig 1333mhz ati 4670.
On the i7 macbook pro model, it runs perfectly fine, i think even better than the i7 xps (obcourse the mbp is @ 1680 compared to xps's 1920).
My Settings for both computers are @ medium with some settings high and 1680x1050x32 on the mbp and 1920x1080x32 on the xps.
The mbp doesnt even get that hot but the studio xps gets pretty hot, about 80c (used gelic-gc extreme).
Blizzard probably coded the mac version of the SC2beta so that macs are able to enjoy it with performance w/o a better card (since macs are limited to what kind of gfx card it comes with) compared to the windows version.
This is just my opinion.

Once Blizzard lets us Mac users cap the framerate you shouldn't have heat problems.

is there a variables.txt file for mac users? I played the beta on windows and was told adding this to the variables.txt would do it

frameratecap=60
frameratecapGlue=30

not sure what glue=30 does though forgot lol

There is a variables.txt file in the OSX version too, and you can alter it.

Unfortunately, SC2 Beta for OSX doesn't respect the values in the variables.txt file however. Amusingly and deflatingly, you can change frameratecap to anything you want and it runs exactly the same as before.

I'm sure this will change in the final product though, as Blizzard is teh awesome.

For now, when playing custom maps (sniffcomebackbeta!), I either run under bootcamp or just ramp up the fans in osx.

PS With glue - one value, from memory the first?, caps the framerate for the menu screens, and the other, the second? or it may be the other way around, caps the fr in the game proper.

sc2 beta patch is outguys! but its not working yet. hopefully by tonight! :D

Woooo! Can anyone confirm if the 10.6.4 update decreases SC2 framerate in comparison to 10.6.3? I got my Macbook Pro i5 about a month ago and haven't played any games on it yet. Unfortunately, I've already updated to 10.6.4.

Performance is still utter bollocks. I can't speak as to whether it's 10.6.4 or patch 16, but there's a definite regression.

I had a copy of Starcraft II on pre-order at best buy online. They cancled the order yesterday, I called them and they said there was a glitch in the system and that they were sorry.

I wend on line today to see about redoing the pre order, now it says its just for windows. Mac is no longer listed... Do you think Blizzard actually change it or is it just a typo at best buy?

The decision to not allow ultralisks to get stunned was a pretty good one. I could see Terran wrecking the zerg late game with mass thors and 250mm strike cannons otherwise. Now if Blizzard would make it so the units wouldn't auto-move to form large concaves during large battles, it takes a good deal of micro out of the game. Auto mining and large control groups can stay.

It ran so horrible under 10.6.4 last night, that I decided to start over and reinstall OSX. I'm back at 10.6.3 and will have to test our SC2 tonight. Without testing any games, I can say that 10.6.4 didn't have issues with just graphics, it also made my MPB i5 seem like a slug. Feels so much better now that I'm back on 10.6.3. BTW, phase 2 beta opened last night at 9PM in case anyone didn't know. SC2 time!!!!

I agree! For such a later game unit, the ultralisk were too dampened by the stun. I'm glad its gone as well. Felt unbalanced especially against a smart Terran player. I watched a recent Day[9] Daily and the use of stunning was off the charts, made the Zerg player seem completely out of element in the majority of battles.

Any SC player probably knows of Day[9], but if you don't definitely check out his daily videos. He analyzes professional level games and even answers viewers questions and is a professional player himself. Definitely one of the best SC players ever, hes fun to watch, and very informative. :)

Can you get the OSX SC2 Beta connected to Bnet? As of yesterday, under bootcamp the beta connects to bnet perfectly (can't play actual games for some reason heh but it does connect fine). But the OSX client always reports in orange that "Battlenet is down for maintanence".

Do you get the same message? Or do I need to reinstall the beta or something? Puzzling.

Oh and Day[9]? Bejoojular.

^ it was like that yesterday night but SC2 beta phase 2 is running fine atm.

the only problem i have is on my 13" mbp, the letters/numbers are a little bit blurry. and i lag now in sc2 wth!!1 i never lagged when it was in phase 1, but in phase 2 i seem to lag -_-. anyone else lagging too?

Really? So you didn't have to change anything or anything? I was paranoid I'd accidentally blocked it in the firewall or something (no idea how but seemed strange it was only the OSX client that wouldn't work).

Anyway will try it again when I get home. Fingers crossed.

nope. it works fine for me. only problem im having is that when the match starts, i get like lag, 5 mins into the game then it goes away. gets annoying but i can deal w/ it.

Unfortunatly im running it on my MacBook pro with the 8600 card, runs at 1280 x960 (last number might be off but close if so). Cant install windows due to hdd needing an entire format... So I'll muttle through till my imac arrives. I did find though that performance does not appear to be improved since phase 1

For those experiencing poor performance in Beta Phase 2 - I found that after I installed the latest patch all my graphics settings had been reset to the default values.

That is, I had previously tweaked it for good performance on my MBP by setting most to Medium with only a few Highs, but after the patch it reset to the default values of almost all High quality. This gave me pretty terrible performance.

Setting everything back to how I had it originally fixed the problem though.

Keep trying, eventually it'll work XD

Yeah, Zerg definitely needed some of those changes.

Early game in TvP is still bollocks for Tos. The late early game push with 25 Marine with a couple Ghosts is unbeatable at this point. I can't find a way to beat it and I've never lost losing it (I play random :D)

OR

Terran can go turbo reaper and absolutely kill your economy. You can either cut workers and quickly tech to a Stalker, get fast cannons (worst option) or micro like crazy with lots and probes losing a couple probes.

Keep trying to connect to the game? Man, don't feel like deleting and downloading the entire game again. Plus, I can't seem to download the downloader on my battlenet accounts page as well. The link leads to a page saying "file cannot be found"...

Getting an early stalker has been a staple of PvT since Starcraft 1 (deny scout, shoot over Terran wall) so I don't really get why people have such a hard time against reapers.

Mass marines/ghosts is harder especially with a few marauders thrown in there. Mass zealot with lots of sentries has been working for me. Just don't cluster your units up!
