Big plus for http://old-macs.com/,
I've purchased from Christian on several occasions and always with positive results, and you are correct, he is very helpful.
I will admit though that my needs are quite modest compared to some who may only be interested in the latest "bleeding edge" components.

Yes, he's the guy to work with if you want to bring an old Mac Pro up to El Capitan.

I told him what my intentions were, and he put the whole package together so all I had to do was install the parts and turn it on and boot into El Capitan. Couldn't have asked for a smoother upgrade.

And when it comes to safe packaging, he double boxed everything shipped to me.
BTW flyinmac, I sent you a personal message.

Yes, he did package everything to survive through anything.

Yep, sent you a response. Hopefully the link I sent you will work.

You guys are veering off the main topic and going about some old Mac hoarder.

The issue is David Pirinelli aka Macvidcards is not honoring his paying his customers with the services he provided. Basically that's mail fraud. So Dave, you better pack your soap on the rope because Bubba is gonna be right there behind you...

Unfortunately, the most modern Nvidia video card Old Macs has for 64 bit EFI Mac Pros is the GTX 285, which in a word is OLD.

Which is exactly why in post #27 I qualified my support for OldMacs.com by stating....
"I will admit though that my needs are quite modest compared to some who may only be interested in the latest "bleeding edge" components."
Even so I'm more then happy with the Apple Radeon HD 5770 he set me up with.

Give 5 business days as a courtesy to any business to respond to RMAs, defects, etc. If no communication is given by then, reverse the charge on your credit card and be done with it.

I almost had to do this with big sellers too (namely Adorama).

MVC was a bit under the weather and fell behind. He is sorry. He's sending 10 cards out today and contacting all with orders. Just be patient, you will get your cards:p

Lou

There should have been a disclaimer or something to let people know. That is just good business. I can't just stay home and be sick without letting anyone know I will not be in. Stores that are closed for holidays usually post notices regarding that even though it is common sense for places to be closed during Christmas or New Years or whatever.

Yeah it seems MVC occasionally lapses on his communications. Still, if anyone researched him before buying, they would know this is par for the course. The man has always come through as threads here would attest.

Everyone relax, and let's get back to Mac Pro 7,1 speculation.

There is often a problem of unmet expectations with a business that bigs itself up but is really just one man & a dog (& the dog is off sick). All the indications are that flashing cards is just a profitable hobby for MVC not a full time business.

Those of us who were around flashing video cards for the G4 Cube over on CubeOwner.com will read threads like this and laugh. Approximately 12 years later and little has changed. MacVidCards was a source of both frustration and inspiration back then, and still is today. Nothing has changed, except the cards are newer and faster.

I've dealt with Christian before as well, and I agree he went way above and beyond with pre-sales and post-sales help and communication.

He helped me pick out an AGP card for my Digital Audio G4, which was the Mac I was running up until the time I got an MP 4,1. Did some fun mods to get it to work too, and even then it was an x8 card hobbled down to the DA's x4 bandwidth.

Also true. Not the best solution for those wanting the newer, more powerful GPUs.

MVC Store store activity: GTX 980/GTX 980 Ti/GTX 970/GTX 780/GTX 770/GTX 750 Ti/GTX 680 available.

I searched a lot on the forum for some possible hints, but couldn't get any. There are several eBay shops, including some in Europe, selling Nvidia GPU as "Mac compatible". They don't claim affiliation with MVC, so how come they can do that mod since it seems very undocumented?

I see... then (most importantly), they add €200 on top of the usual PC price of the very same card. Nothing like a quick buck.

I've also seen some other sellers on ebay. Though, on the info section they state that you cannot boot into recovery mode with said card(for maxwell gpu's at least). While I can boot in to recovery mode with my MVC card just fine. Also, on some cards, not all outputs are working. So read carefully through the item discription.
All I can say, MVC gpu's work as promised.

For what it's worth, I've been getting twitter updates from MacVidCards all day about new stock.
