I have to admit, it's pretty cool he took a few minutes out of his time on a Saturday morning to answer my complaint. I have to say I am NOT happy about this "no Apple gift card for iPad 3G" policy.

It is grossly unfair for Apple to take people's money and then not allow them to spend it on hot new Apple products.

Ah yes his response is what I expected, by the way I've been following you on twitter for a while but did NOT realize that you're a member here too as well ;)

The policy makes sense but it still sucks for people that legitimately have gift cards they wanted to use for this..

Glad you are one of my twitter followers. I've been a member of this board since 2007 under an old handle. It's one of my favorite sites being a Mac/Apple fan myself.

Steve replied to my email at 8:43AM Pacific Time. I assume he was on his home computer at the time. He replied to my email 27 minutes after I sent it. If you think about the 4-5 minutes he probably took to write the answer, that is amazingly quick response.

It's not longwinded. It's one paragraph. Thanks for posting this, though it is basically stuff we already knew. Still good to see it straight from the source.

Gotta be the dick here. But I don't think that Steve wrote this email. Usually Jobs' emails are very short and sweet, like the way a professor writes emails. This email just doesn't seem like his writing style.

Not more likely an assistant than the man himself IMO.

If I didn't receive the email directly, I would probably of said the same thing. Most of Steve's emails are of the "Yes" or "No" variety and just a few words at best.

I doubt an assistant wrote the email because he repeatedly apologizes in it. An assistant wouldn't do that. Also do assistants work on Saturday mornings? I doubt it.

My feeling is he actually felt bad about my complaint and decided to write a longer email response.

I may have gotten lucky yesterday. I was about the 20th person in line out of ~150 and I used a $630 Apple gift card to buy a 32GB 3G. I was very worried about this as I mentioned in another thread, but it worked out just fine.

Are you the Wombat from Cheap Ass Gamer? If so, I am a huge fan and listen to every podcast.

Do not understand the reasoning behind not allowing gift cards if the 2 iPad limit per person is in place.

Umm... you mean 16GB iPad 3G right (that's the $629 model).

lol, sorry, not me. This username is meaningless and stems from a college joke in 1993. I only use it because it's available everywhere.

I have no problems believing Steve Jobs actually wrote that email. He wipes his ass the same way we all do. You're probably right in the sense that he was particularly bothered by that policy and felt compelled to at least address your valid feelings with an apology.

I buy 10 gift cards and then me and whatever 9 people I can dragoon into handing a sales clerk a card walk out with two iPads each. I put the 20 iPads ni my car trunk and post an ebay listing. I come back tomorow and do the same thing. Credit/debit cards are harder to do that with (you'd have to reimburse your 9 helpers instead of just giving them the gift card) and allow tracking between days (so you and your original nine people couldn't buy more tomorrow). No system is foolproof, but it doesn't need to be to reduce the problem significantly.

So you registered today. You link to a website which has the same exact name as your username instead of posting the email directly here.

Yeah, I don't believe you.
