Umm... you mean 16GB iPad 3G right (that's the $629 model).

No. Many of us were told that gift cards wouldn't be accepted unless 51% or more of the price was charged to a debit/credit card. I was specifically told this by a store manager on Thursday evening. I went ahead and tried anyway.

It rings true to me.

And Jobs' persona is that he's a jerk when he's feeling righteous. In this case, my guess is that they debated this policy and feel a bit weird about it. This is a loyal customer he's responding to, not an industry rival or a reporter.

I don't believe the message came from Steve himself. But there is a possibility he's just super bored, checking his e-mail early on a Saturday morning and then feeling strongly to reply to your email knowing that the person will post it all over the internet, causing more people to buy Apple products due to perceived personal customer service. It's all part of his master plan. One of great marketing minds of all time.

You guys think I would spend hours of my time photo-shopping a fake email with a raw header? Give me a break. Think about it, would anyone do that for a topic like this?!?

I buy 10 gift cards and then me and whatever 9 people I can dragoon into handing a sales clerk a card walk out with two iPads each. I put the 20 iPads ni my car trunk and post an ebay listing. I come back tomorow and do the same thing. Credit/debit cards are harder to do that with (you'd have to reimburse your 9 helpers instead of just giving them the gift card) and allow tracking between days (so you and your original nine people couldn't buy more tomorrow). No system is foolproof, but it doesn't need to be to reduce the problem significantly.

Yeah makes sense. Thanks.
And I do believe that the posting is legit.

It's been done before.

Grammatically, it should be: We've or We have [put] though We put, as in present, recent justified is acceptable.

I don't question the screenshot. Most of us are just saying that we don't think Steve wrote the e-mail itself.

He sort of has more proof than this guy. Steve's reply was strong and professional. Plus, when you click 'with source' I think that is enough evidence to show the guy is legit.

Well, if you look at:

and

The source looks right... I guess First Adopter has to copy and paste those lines instead of posting the cropped image to prove its authenticity to the ever skeptical MacRumors Forum :rolleyes:

Also, another tidbits from the two, looking at X-Mailer, Hugo's email was replied by "iPad Mail" whereas FA's email was replied by "Apple Mail" that may indicate one or two things:
1. It is an assistant's reply
2. Jobs is actually in front of his Mac typing the email... hence longer and more elaborate response than usual

I personally don't think why anybody would photoshop an email from Steve Jobs but not everyone is as trusting as I am

EDIT: Fixed some grammar mistake

I guess no matter what I say, I won't be able to convince the doubters. I don't have 1800+ twitter followers for nothing. Go read my last 1000 tweets. Does that sound like a faker to you? Geez.

Who in the hell would fake something like this? It's not like the email says that a new iPad model is coming. All it does is explain the iPad gift card policy; if he was going to fake something wouldn't he have gone for something somewhat interesting?

If you got it 30 minutes later, then why does the image show an internal lag on Apple's side of nearly exactly 3 hours?

I agree. Twitter is the end-all-be-all of someone's credibility.

Time to go worship Glenn Beck and all of those other tweeters with 100x + more "followers" than you!
