BluRay vs. HD-DVD

Or BluRay and the World vs. Steve Jobs (& Apple Inc)

I wonder if a better example is either

1. Porn chooses VHS over Betamax

or

2. Playstation chooses Blu-Ray over HD-DVD

I think in both cases, the choice made by a very popular media source or distribution network influenced the ultimate outcomes of both contests.

Those formats appeared simultaneously and provided a solution to specific problems in the same time. With Flash and HTML5 that is not the case. Flash has been around for a very long time and it has various markets where HTML5 is not a competitor yet. Corporate sites and applications; online ads, social networks use Flash more often than people realise. Flash continues to evolve. HTML5 is hardly anywhere yet. It's an old dog vs. young cow.

No, it won't.
Because Flash sucks, and Steve Jobs doesn't want to support it.

I'd argue that Steve Jobs sucks for acting so unprofessionally about this whole crusade of his.

I actually have the perfect signature for this thread.

^Yes, using JQuery. Also, no offense, but those buttons look really blurry and stretched.

Thanks. I will work on them. Actually, I am a bit lost. I built that intro page using iWeb on an older Mac. That mac is a bit disabled (overheating issues). But when I try to redo it on a pc, it wont update the text inside the boxes. I need to scrap both of those first two pages...but first I want to figure out the slide show.

I'll do some reading on the jquery.

Thanks!

We'll see who kills what. Most people still don't care about Flash in general, but the DO care if they cannot enjoy the internet as they got used to it. With the iPad and the iPhone, that is a concern.

Flash will be around for years. HTML5 will be not.

i agree.
it looks like iPhone may die since again for another year, they have kept from joining verizon, and it seems like its impossible for them to keep up against the man-power of
HTC, Motorola, samsung, and all the other companies now creating android powered phones.

the iPhone has basically nothing on them other than it has a more-developed app store, but the android has basically unlimited apps

my point is that androids have flash, iphones dont
android is growing.

and not all websites are just going to change just because apple doesn't like flash:apple:

apple seriously needs to stop just reeling in customers by upgrading their products so slowly.

almost all computers at HP that are the 800-900$+. have core i3 ATLEAST

i configured an hp laptop on costco's website with core i3, 500gb HD, blue-ray, 4gb ram 14 inch screen, and system restore disk for like 820$

apple needs to really pick up the pace with updating their products to the newest technologies.

i have a 3 year old laptop running core 2 duo, and yet apple, one of the best, if not the best computer manufactuars, is still selling core 2 duos in 3 of their computers.

its ridiculous how apple can make their products so old on technology and still get customers.

Why do they "need" to do all of that?

Lack of Java support also?

Is the iPad officially not compatible with Java?

I really don't care to much about flash. Many sites offer a non-flash version. Although I did run into one yesterday that had no alternative at the bottom. I need to remember who that is and contact them.

Anyway, the big issue I am running into is a lack of java support for java menus and buttons. Like, I can't crop a photo at smugmug. I get client orders for prints...and I have to review them. It would be really nice to do this from the ipad when I am lounging around or out and about...clear some orders with out having to wait until I get home and get on the hot, isolated desktop.

But there are other sites also. Nobody ever replied to my plea for feedback.

Really, I don't know what is the problem with some of these sites...if it is a browser issue...or an iPad issue.

Well that's the beauty of remote access. Fire up logmein ignition or one of the other remote access apps and you can take care of this on your ipad when you're lounging around or out and about. No, not as good as being able to do it directly on your ipad, but it gets the job done nevertheless.

Actually this isn't about watching video or inferior technology. Ultimately Steve dislikes Flash because it allows users to run apps and play games without buying them from iTunes.

I suspect Google will save Flash with Android and Apple will either be forced to play Flash or become orphaned on the web.

If that's the case why does Apple allow web apps?
