I finished reading the SJ book last night. Jobs' biggest mistake wasn't a business decision one. It was a personal one by waiting to get surgery once his pancreatic cancer was detected early. Living in his reality distortion field for 9 months cost him his life.
I enjoyed the book but SJ could never get rid of his anger even after his body weakened. Consumers like us can easily appreciate the guy because we never worked with him. SJ pretty much got into a shouting match with everyone at Apple and quite distant with his daughters as Apple and making a dent in the universe seemed more important to him than his own family or caring for anyone's feelings. It seems like KARMA he suffered pain internally since he hurt so many good, good people so emotionally.
I absolutely enjoyed his last few words in that book. Alot of what he said I can agree with even if I don't believe technology should be DOGMATIC. I get all that with his ethos and why he wanted Apple to be the best and enduring company making great products and it isn't about money. And I do wish he was alive today. But truth is, SJ lived in his own world. He could a great innovator and great con man at the same time. He based his decisions on his intuition, moods, and ethos.
I think SJ is wrong on tech even now. He hated the Newton, so I know he would never wanted a stylus for iPhone. I'm more with Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak feeling tech should be open. I know if SJ was alive, he would say he is always right, whoever defers is all wrong and we are all bozos, and Android is junk because it is fragmented and open when Google contradicts it by improving every year. Great man. Not a great human being. And not everything he said was gospel. Now that he is RIP, it really doesn't matter what was his opinions were before...
