So, I am confused...

I should not be critical of something I have not used, but many, many other people have been using and reviewing it for a while.

Meanwhile, you are critical of a product that you and hardly anyone else has used or reviewed?

I know my habits, preferences, and typical scenarios I will be in with my electronic devices, just like you know how you use your phone.

Maybe how you use your phone makes it perfect for Face ID, while Face ID would be inconvenient for how I use my phone.

This can be perfectly illustrated here:

All of this requires the iPhone to be mounted in a position to be able to glace at it, which would not be ideal for me.

But S10 “attention-seeking” FPS is no better in a car...worst even.

Hmm you have to look at your phone to unlock it unless you have attention awareness turned off which is unsafe while driving.

I’ve never had much luck with unlocking my iPhone when it’s flat on a table unless I lean right over it.

And S10 FPS is better how again ??? It requires MORE attention!!! That’s my point.

Do what I wrote above for table unlock with your iPhone.

Comparing the S10 to the iPhone X (the first gen of each system), we can pretty much all agree that they’ve got negatives that will need to be ironed out over time.

But from what I’ve seen FaceID seems to be the option with the most potential.

I just use smart lock to auto unlock phone while in the car. You can't do that with iPhone yet. Many possibilities with android, the real o/s

Yeah no thanks. Convenient yes. But less secure.

And this is why Android every year is taking these convenient features away.

Maybe, maybe not..... Some might think Face ID is "attention-seeking" needing it to be held up and looked at to work.

But, I could be wrong.

how can you be critical of FaceID when you have not used it?

Maybe you can give the S10 a try before being critical of it?

Any form of Touch ID over Face ID all day every day if I’m honest - though ultrasonic Touch ID 3 would be pretty cool in itself, allowing for more current form factors, and eliminating some of the dirt/ moisture failures of TID past.

Why wouldn’t you want your phone to be unlocked if you’re in your own car?

Friends, kids, etc can unlock your phone. Sorry for me, I don’t like that.

And correct me if I am wrong, with smart unlock, you have to swipe up to unlock inside car, right?

FaceID is same if you disable attention awareness. Or just quick glance. Geez.

But you’re likely to have your phone on a stand mounted on the dashboard and if others are in your car and you’ve given them your phone, you probably wanted them to see something on there.

You have to manually change the setting and still have to swipe up to access it.

This is a feature that automatically detects your location and then unlocks if you’ve designated that place as ‘safe’. Once you leave the safe location your phone will automatically lock. This is not the same thing as disabling attention awareness at all.

But why do you think Apple has not done this? Because it is too technical? Or that this is a security risk?

If I want my kids etc to see my phone, then it requires action from me. No less. I don’t want Auto Unlock.

There’s plenty of things that Apple don’t implement like split screen apps and always on displays. They have their own reasons for not having thewe features.

I cannot speak for @Thai, but in my experience, CarPlay and the CarPlay apps are really buggy.

Sometimes CP won't work unless the phone is unlocked, and sometimes it will.

Pandora will sometimes play music without the iPhone being unlocked first, but most times I have to unlock the phone for music to start playing on CP.

It is very inconsistent behavior. The experience reminds me of how Microsoft products were from 10+ years ago. The only consistent thing about it was that it was inconsistent.

You ARE wrong.

How would you know unless you have used it? Give it a try before you are critical of it:

That's just sweet. I never called everyone here who think different from me ignorant.

Relax, please.
Think different? You said you wouldn't want a screen protector with a hole. They do make glass screen protectors without a whole that works with the finger print scanner. Hence, ignorance.

I mean if you don't want a screen protector with a hole in it, the smart thing would be to just get one without a hole. But I guess people just complain for the sake of complaining.

FaceID. I like to use a glass screen protector on my devices. They're truly spectacular now. The fingerprint sensor on the S10 apparently doesn't work with that setup.
This is not true.

$50 for a screen protector is insane.

Those more reasonably priced have a hole in them.

How is it less secure. Are you driving around with people in your car you dont trust?

Guess what, even with a $50 screen protector the S10 and S10+ is cheaper than the XS and XS Max. You get even more storage for a cheaper price plus a fast charger! Oh wait, price only matters when it comes to other brands. However, when it comes to Apple any price is worth it.

You even got Galaxy buds if you pre ordered!

You are drifting away from the original topic. I have already made my purchase, I do not need someone telling me what is better and what has more storage, there are sites like GSM Arena for that.

You are drifting away form your original post. You said you don't want a screen protector with a hole. I informed you there is ones without a hole that works with the FP scanner. Now you moved the goal post to $50 is too expensive for a screen protector.

Okay then.

Why wouldn’t you want your phone to be unlocked if you’re in your own car?

Because driving while using your cell phone is illegal in many places? Because it's completely unsafe to drive and use your phone (hands-free or not hands-free)? Because you have no business using a cell phone while operating a vehicle?

How is this a real question?

The S10 FP scanner does work with some glass screen protectors.

"Some" is a bit of a stretch....

So, you want Samsung ultrasonic fingerprint reader under iPhone display? The one that is unreliable (several presses of just the right amount of pressure), slow, and requires deliberate placement of your finger in a small area on display??

Just a quick note....FaceID unlocks even dirt and moisture is present.

At times, it is true...sometimes, iPhone owners just make me smh....
