Apple officially accepting OS X 10.8 App's:

Make sure your apps take advantage of the great new features in OS X Mountain Lion when the world's most advanced operating system ships to millions of customers worldwide. Download OS X Mountain Lion GM seed and Xcode 4.4 GM seed, now available on the Mac Dev Center. Build your apps with these latest seeds, then test and submit for review.
You can also submit iOS apps that take advantage of the new cross-platform Game Center Groups, so they'll be available when OS X Mountain Lion ships.

I hope with ML that more and more developers submit more apps. The Mac App Store isn't the most impressive thing on the planet, mainly because most devs are focusing on the iOS platform. Make more apps for the Mac!!!

in that case lion GM seed was released July 1st. about 2 weeks before it went on sale.

I'm guessing July 24th.

Interesting as a friend suggested that date from someone at Apple. Now I think that may be the date.

Looking forward to it. My 2007 Macbook Pro is really starting to look dated now! Hopefully it will run it. A new iMac is in my future anyway.

Given what he said, i would guess 9 days from today (the 18th or even perhaps the 19th).

If Apple release's Mountain Lion before there earning call on July 24th, they'll have something to talk about in addition to the sale of the new macs.

Exactly! Also, they might want to release ML a little early. Because if ML is a success in the first week (in terms of amount of downloads), they can brag about it during the earnings call.

No, they mostly talk about financials during the earnings call. Apple executives typically deflect any inquiries about upcoming products. The most they ever really say about upcoming products is "we have some exciting announcements later this year" and that's about it.

Moreover, the release of Mountain Lion will have zero fiscal impact on the Q3 earnings. The books are already closed on that quarter.

After all, it's Apple. I don't know what anyone would expect them to behave any differently.

Apple wants developers to make bleeding edge apps. They want developers to make apps that take advantage of the latest features in OSX and iOS. If you want to be a successful developer, you will focus your business model on those two aspects on one layer, and actual features and benefits on another layer.

This is a closed garden, after all.
