Uhm, Facebook integration apparently is not in there. This is weird. It's in iOS, while synchronized stuff isn't even shown in Contacts on OS X.

It clearly shows here that there should be FB sharing.
Check the full features page, FB integration has a notice saying "Coming this Fall"... ;)

Terrible news. The last thing we need is a flood of poorly coded apps. They should just fix up the ones already in the App Store.

Mountain Lion and iOS 6 are both the most worthless updates OS X and iOS has ever seen.

Apple, focus on the features, not the suing.

If you ordered your Mac after June 10th (I guess that is the correct date...) ML upgrade will be free for you. ;)
What the poster meant was that if his new computer doesn't arrive until three days after the OS is released, is it worth spending $20 to put it on his old machine just to start playing with it until his new computer comes. :)

Looking forward to it. My 2007 Macbook Pro is really starting to look dated now! Hopefully it will run it. A new iMac is in my future anyway.

If your 2007 MBP is a 4,1 version you can get 6GB memory recognized even though officially a 2007 MBP supposedly stops at 4GB.

Should be okay with ML then.

Moreover, the release of Mountain Lion will have zero fiscal impact on the Q3 earnings. The books are already closed on that quarter.

(For people who don't know: Apple's Q1 is Oct-Dec, Q2 = Jan-Mar, Q3 = Apr-Jun, Q4 = Jul-Sep).

The money that Apple makes by selling Mountain Lion is nice to have in their pocket, but not really that much in the bigger picture. What is more important is that it tells people "if you buy a Macintosh, you will be able to get future operating system upgrades really cheap", and that is a good reason to buy a Mac - which is where the real money is made. Especially since the price is not $19.99 per Mac, but $19.99 for all your Macs.

"OS X Mountain Lion is only available to registered developers presently. The final version will be available to customers through the Mac App Store later in July. Apple will be pricing the release at $19.99." or $300 for Australian customers.....

But then they will get two years warranty. Apple has to get that money back somehow.

What's the cat name after Mountain lion ?

What will 10.9 be called ?

Good question actually. We are running out of real well-known cat names. Of course with 10.10 Apple could start from scratch and call them Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, Leopard and so on again.

Facebook integration is currently available as a separate download/install. Currently it only implements Facebook contact syncing with Contacts and posting through "Notification Center". There doesn't seem to be any alerts/banners being pushed from Facebook to OS X N.C. yet.

As an aside, I'm really surprised that Facebook and social networking have taken off so much that company's are incorporating them directly into their OS. First Friendster, then MySpace which both fell to the wayside, and a lot thought Facebook would as well. I'm really surprised it hasn't.

I might be reading to far into this but what do they mean by "ships"? It's a download...

Well since you want to get technical, new Macs will actually be shipping with Mountaion Lion. So yes Mountain Lion will be shipping to customers and stores as well as downloading.

I hope they also have Air Drop available. I don't live near water. ;)

Sure, but I wouldn't get a new Mac now just so I didn't have to pay $20 when OS X Mountain Lion comes out.

GRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Can I just say that, as an apple consumer and someone who works on an iMac all day for work, There are 2 things in lion that just irk the hell out of me and I hope they fix in future releases.

1.) a 2 finger swipe in a finder window no longer takes me back or forward to a previous folder, it sends me to my dash board!

2.) as a design professional, I do a lot of zooming in and out in photoshop and illustrator. the most efficient way to do this is alt+scroll. In Lion, there is no way to turn off momentum scroll, which makes zooming extremely touchy and downright annoying.

Anyone else have this issue?

Ok, thats it, just had to get that out there since it annoys the crap out of me every day.

It seems like Apple should announce a release date here soon...

Then again, I guess now that they're doing digital distribution only, it'll take only a few hours to get from having a final build made to having it up everywhere on the app store, whereas before they'd have to print off thousands of DVDs with the final build, then ship them to all the stores, which probably made it take closer to a week.

Thus, Apple may not announce a release date until 2 or 3 days in advance, because they may not be certain that it's 100% ready until then. (It sounded to me like the GM still had some minor bugs... personally, I'm running Beta 4 and haven't noticed any strange behavior at all.)

1 - Huh? A 2 finger swipe in column view (the only view worth using) causes it to scroll back and forth through the columns.
2 - I don't use Adobe products, but I have used other apps which rely on scrolling for zooming in/out, and I have to say I enjoy "momentum zooming". If you don't like it, they you should be dragging instead of swiping... if your fingers are stationary before lifting, the view shouldn't drift.

LOL I can't believe that developer made so much money from that app. First rejected, made headlines, was finally accepted and made what, six figures?
He was hired as director of the iOS app store:
http://gizmodo.com/5615902/apples-app-store-director-sells-fart-apps-on-the-side

Over time there were more than 20 fart apps in the app store, and oddly enough (or perhaps not odd at all), shortly after Shoemaker was made director of the app store Apple implemented a policy of rejecting apps in categories that already have a lot of entrants, thus ensuring his app wouldn't get lost in the crowd.

1- I'm glad you like column view, unfortunately as a designer who often has multiple versions of the same general design, it is beneficial for me to be able to have larger thumbnails to make sure I am opening the right file.

2- perhaps it is just the mighty mouse, but my zoom scroll is terribly sensitive. I dont know what youre talking about with "dragging", but I'm sure it is not as efficient as alt+scroll. the simple fix would be to have it like snow leopard where you can just uncheck it in the mouse settings. it baffles me why they would even get rid of that option.

Edit:
Someone on another forum Just alerted me to the fix for "Inertia" scroll!!!
They moved the option to turn it off from mouse preferences to universal access. AWESOME!
