That is to be expected, the feature of offering two different update tracks got released with 14.5 or 14.614.4 here, only 15.1 is offered.

Because 14.8.1 is the latest version of iOS 14. If a higher one was available it would show up at the bottom. See my screenshot on 14.8 below.as it stands now, there is no way to do anything else except install 15.1. Apple has broken its promise and no one is holding them accountable
14.4 never had the capability to install later iOS 14 versions in Settings ever since 15.0 came out. Only 14.5 and later have the feature to offer two different updates. On 14.8 you can still choose:14.4 here, only 15.1 is offered.
Same here but I still got the red notification number 1 shown on settings iconThe iOS 15 update has now gone back to its rightful place and I’m told I’m up to date with 14.8.1!

Yesterday it was up front and center with the red badge on the Settings app icon. Now after reloading the Software Update page the update is back at the bottom - red badge is still there though…
That worked. Thanks for the tip !You could try and start the iOS 15.1 update and then delete it from Settings > General > iPhone storage, red dot should be gone then
Yes it is! Not sure why you didn't just try it instead of asking here; it took me two seconds to check. For those who don’t want to see the red dot. Is it possible to “remove” the Settings app from the Home Screen so it only appears on the App Library screen?
Thankyou. I didn’t want to risk deleting the Settings app and then not be able to re-install it. Would be a disaster.Yes it is! Not sure why you didn't just try it instead of asking here; it took me two seconds to check.
My iPad or iPhone hasn’t changedHi, anyone else on iOS 14.8.1 that noticed the iOS 15 update left its place in the bottom of the screen and now shows up as a "normal" update? The text about being up-to-date on 14.8.1 is gone. The change happened today, a couple of hours ago.
(I have automatic install and download of updates disabled)
Why's it on the home screen in the first place? You change things in there THAT frequently? For those who don’t want to see the red dot. Is it possible to “remove” the Settings app from the Home Screen so it only appears on the App Library screen?
just guessing, the standard out of box iOS homescreen includes the Settings app. Why's it on the home screen in the first place? You change things in there THAT frequently?
If you do this, it won't download again unless I tell it to right? I don't want it to somehow install the update while I'm sleeping because it just felt like it.You could try and start the iOS 15.1 update and then delete it from Settings > General > iPhone storage, red dot should be gone then
I go into settings a lot to change bluetooth settings, or check my passwords list. Why's it on the home screen in the first place? You change things in there THAT frequently?
Yeah, it's back!!Urgh, the dreaded red dot started appearing for me too
For those using a DNS-level ad/tracker blocker service like NextDNS, I found this list of domains on Reddit that blocks system updates but keep app updates working:
Code:mesu.apple.com appldnld.apple.com swscan.apple.com xp.apple.com gdmf.apple.com
Before blocking, I initiated the iOS 15.1 update, then went to Settings > General > iPhone storage and deleted the iOS update from there. With the red dot gone, I turned on blocking of above domains and things seem to work so far.
I really hope there is some backlash about this
Not here. My phone is on 14.8.1, no red dots. Still no reason I can see to bother with iOS 15.This appears to be happening again.
