Oh.. I thought I read tuesday in one of you earlier posts. Getting senile :p.
Attaching a Wacom tablet is a matter of plugging it in :). Maybe you have to download/install a driver from the Wacom site, but that's about it ;). Do you already have one? Maybe the MS rep in the store can assist..

Tuesday...Thursday same difference. :p

No Wacom yet. Want to get proficient at Windows and using the laptop before I try to learn something else. Not sure if the integrated graphics on the SL2* will be able to push something like Corel Painter or Affinity Designer, but I’ll research it.

*Lisa Gade had one of the Wacoms connected to a 15” Spectre, so I’ll dig and see what I can find in regard to the art software and system requirements.

This is a great video to watch in regards to the iPad Pro if you have the time, it’s just over 30 minutes long.

I hope it suits your needs.

I wish I was in the what Mac will replace my iMac phase, but I am trying new things. I wish you and @LeeW luck and many good years use of whatever you might buy from Apple.

I'm really at odds with how some of the thought process work from the Apple side of things

Lets see, IOS has some nice cheap photo or editing software which will work great on a $1000 IPP for when your out and about but when you get home you can finish off on a $2000 Laptop/desk top with the full MacOS version or better software

This is so Apple logic, 2 devices 2 pieces of software and one is incomplete without the other

Whilst I appreciate many have old/legacy hardware knocking around but seriously this is how the circular entrapment works with always considering your incomplete and 2 devices and multiple OS software

Step out side this and you can easily afford professional grade software and a single solution with docking station and a great monitor. Once your at this junction expanding your needs is easy without the waste and skipping the aborted learning of mix and match software

I hope Apple never make cars else you will need a different one and a different fuel from one Gas station for every journey type you take

Yeah, -10 is stay inside weather, especially since you have duel appointments. Glad to hear they could accommodate Friday for you.

I was sort of surprised, they had all of Friday open. I am used to scheduling with Apple a week out.

I even bought a swanky Samsung dark gray flash drive to make a bootable drive. I hope they have a black version of their traditional wheel mouse at this store. I saw the other colors and would be fine with platinum.

Anyway, my adventure begins soon.

And now my MS appointments are Friday. Decided not to risk my extremities as it will be around -10 below here tomorrow a.m.

Slight polar vortex here.

Anyway, it is better on Friday morning as I will not be rushed.

Looking forward to it.

One more night's sleep... :p

I realize it is still in the afternoon for you but here in Amsterdam it is already evening. So I wish you much fun tomorrow before I hit the bed.

Let us know how it went. And don't try to rebuild Windows on the first day. Start with some simple things first (like reformatting the entire drive..... No! don't do that. Just joking!) ;)

Yeah, I wonder what the Restore option does... hmmm :)

Yup, leave there knowing that all the updates are done, latest drivers, etc. and start slow is good advice :)

:p I’ll ask about reset points and I forgot what else you mentioned.

I’ll definitely fill you all in at some point tomorrow. :) I am looking forward to typing on SL2. I think it will be just fine.

Well, that was... interesting. The tech was kind of helpful, the Windows trainer less so.

My questions were answered though.

I will say typing on the laptop is very, very comfortable and I like the screen. The build quality is very nice.

Have to get another external hard drive, because once again I received the wrong information about the storage size needed.

At any rate, I’ll get comfortable with it and go slow. Thanks everyone for your help.

Oh oh. What was wrong with the Windows trainer? The ones at the store near me are pretty good, friendly, knowledgeable, always offer snacks and drinks :)

I asked her for a walk through of using Windows on the Surface and I was expecting more. She was pleasant enough, I just felt like that part of the appointment could have been better. I had to ask her to show me basic things rather than her taking the initiative and doing that.

I guess I was expecting the same level of knowledge like you, @Queen6 and others in this sub forum.

They should have been able to deliver on that. I made it clear to them that I had not used Windows since the XP days and they got me up and running with Windows 10. Seems that store needs to up their game in that regard. Perhaps you should chat with the manager and see if you can schedule another session with a different trainer if you feel you need more.

and possibly guaranteed sales :p

Q-6

On the other hands, with all my recent trials with the 2018 MBP, I believe I might benefit from a prescription to iValium :)

Maybe that Apple's problem, albeit more a case of blowing smoke up their own ass. Titanic and Iceberg springs to mind, indeed hubris is a very dangerous trait...

Waiting for the iExcuse to be formalised. Why we just cant, sad but true, but, but, but :p

I certainly asked and made sure they knew my situation that I’ve barely used W10, and desired not to Bork another Surface.

Their staff at this store is either excellent or meh.

Overall, I got a good machine for my training wheel needs. I’ll definitely look into videos and things if I get stuck. If I absolutely need another appointment, of course I’ll make one.

I think Apple brass are taking way too much iValium in their kool aid. Did that rep ever get in touch with you?

The 2018 MBP is a nice laptop when it is working correctly. Not a great one and by no means worth the money they charge. But at least it would be easier to ignore the latter two points if it was at least reliable.

We played phone tag a couple of times yesterday. Will try again today. I did send her links to some of the more relevant threads on MR such as the T2/BridgeOS, Gen 3 Keyboard, Flexgate and Is anyone else abandoning ship. Doubt she will read them, but who knows :)

I think they need a bit of an eye-opener to the fact that some of their biggest fans and long time customers are losing faith.

Rip the training wheels off :p What's the worse that can happen? Reset the system, as long as your user data is backed up who cares. In all seriousness it's all part of the learning curve.

Knowledge is empowerment and those making decisions for you only act in their own interests, a point well worth considering...

I have a pdf of 'Windows 10 for dummies' for you. I am not saying you are a dummy of course :D.
Granted it is a copy of end 2016, but is very good for the basics.

Here is a link to my OneDrive where you can download it from:

https://1drv.ms/f/s!Aulr8uOxQMCljJwMpPEGOO-lE3cKKA

If you have downloaded it give me a signal so I can remove the link.

Don't know if this helps, but my wife (also a Mac-user) says it helped her a lot :p

Edit:

If you are in OneDrive, just check the file (checkbox right top) and click download on top of the page.

I have used plenty of those "Dummies" books. Sometimes they are definitely the smart choice :)

The step by step books are also good as well because they have a link to file downloads for each chapter and include hands-on lessons.

Thanks @AndyMacAndMic @SDColorado and @Queen6

I have two Windows10 books including the Step-by-Step that @SDColorado mentioned.

Andy, this was very kind of you, I will try the books I have, to start with. Thank you again, I will hold off on your offer now because I haven’t really used many tech how-to books since CSS coding nearly leveled me. Thank you again!

I do know how to create a system reset point now :p I’ll have look at my spare drives, maybe I can exFat one so I’ll have the disk image. I just do not want to put more money on this card or spend more on this laptop.

As far as diving in, yeah, I probably will.

No problem! I've removed the link (before millions of people start to download from it :D).
If you have any questions, you know where to post them.
