Did they release office for modern yet? I've not been keeping up with that sort of stuff.
Very nice, I had W10 on a usb drive and I just upgraded over win 8.1. Quite painless, took about 10 minutes with almost zero input from me. One thing I notice is that start menu has much smaller scaling than classic shell, it's a bit small for my eyes. I'm at 200% dpi. I wish I could raise the scaling of just the start menu. I suppose I could just replace it with classic shell again, but I really like the W10 start menu.
It seems slightly laggy as well, I'll have to play with it a bit more though.
edit: I prefer apps in full screen by default, is there a setting to change this? Maybe app by app, or better yet simply the ability to toggle back and forth when in an app. Also I thought W10 had a pull down/notification screen, has that not been implemented yet?
Notifications are from the right side pull in. I don't know how to do full screen by default, though.
Anyone else get this error in W10?
"There was a problem starting C:\Windows\System32\LogiLDA.dll The specified module could not be found."

I'm just getting the old Charms bar with the right side pull in.
Nope, but I have gotten an error with some Windows updates not installing at all or saying they installed and being offered again (Hardware Update 1/27 did this a lot). I've also had IE BSoD the system via a memory leak they seem to have fixed recently.

Are you sure you're on the January preview? 9926, it should be.
Thanks, no I was on 9841. I see in settings where I can update the preview version and it's downloading now.
UGHHHHH, where are my quick volume and brightness settings from the Charm bar?!?! The notifications display button brings you to the display settings, and you have to dig around to find a brightness slider, and there is no volume slider other than the tiny one on the desktop.
Start menu is interesting, but still fubar IMO just like the start screen because they don't have folders. I don't understand why everyone is pleased, it seems like it's just a start screen tied to the windows button same as before.
Win10 is AWFUL on a tablet, a complete disaster. My advice for you tablet guys, stay on 8.1 until we see the final release of Win10 and even then probably not.
I'm failing to understand the start menu, it's the same exact thing as the start page, it would be comical if it wasn't so sad. For desktop mode I need all my programs, folders within folders, nesting, settings such as control panel, recent documents, etc etc. This is NOT the start menu, it's some kidified stupefied start screen with very little useful info on it.
They took away all the great stuff 8.1 had for tablets. Full screen apps by default, charms bar, quick sliders for brightness/volume, swiping from the left to cycle through apps/programs, etc.
Anyhoo I'm rolling this back, I lasted a couple hours lol. I'm hoping my 8.1 recovery will work otherwise I'll be pissed if I have to fully reinstall 8.1. Man what a mistake. You guys know I'm the biggest Microsoft fanboy on these forums, but this is an atrocity that even I can't accept.
Yep, this is exactly what I've been hearing from other Surface users. I can kind of see the loss of the charms menu, it wasn't obvious to trigger, especially on a desktop, and it never developed as fully as they intended. Still, the quick access to the time/date and settings was essential and they could have kept that around in other ways.
The loss of the side swipe to switch apps, and the loss of gestures in IE are inexcusable though. Who are they building this for? I've used Win 8 on a laptop for ages now, and you know what, there is nothing wrong with it. They needed to tweak it, not scrap it and start over.
I think with the charms all they needed to do was disable it when in "desktop" mode, I suppose when the keyboard is attached. Or just disable the mouse from activating it, dead simple.
Odd. I use the charms all the time in desktop mode on my Lenovo notebook.

Sorry, in 8.1. Should have been clearer! I found it odd that they removed it.You have charms in the 9926 build of Windows 10?
The local COSTCO got in the SP 3 and tried it out, I was favorably impressed with it. Not cheap, $1,049.00 price tag on it.
I had Win10 in a VM on my Surface and didn't have many issues with it. But then again I am on a way old preview build. Not a fan of how Hyper-V screws with Wifi resume from sleep in 8.1 so I have disabled the hypervisor for the time being.Yep, this is exactly what I've been hearing from other Surface users. Nice. Did they enable continuum yet? Where Win 10 knows if you are in tablet vs desktop mode?Win10 is AWFUL on a tablet, a complete disaster. My advice for you tablet guys, stay on 8.1 until we see the final release of Win10 and even then probably not.

Dektop IE doesn't support gestures (does it?). What is sad is the loss of a completely sandboxed IE which is what Modern IE provided...

I'm not sure, but the notification pane had a toggle for desktop and tablet mode. I putzed around a bit with it but didn't notice any difference between the modes. I'm not a huge believer in continuum, I use my SP3 as a tablet much of the time with the keyboard attached. The toggle seems like a better bet. Common sense would say they should leave all the 8.1 tablet features and only have them enabled if the user toggled tablet mode on.
