I like a problem as much as the next person, but me trying different reset combinations just feels ridiculous.

Crazy! And infuriating.

16.0.2 can’t come soon enough - assuming it doesn’t introduce more bugs.

It better fix this issue, I def won’t be happy setting up my phone again

From what I need to do, it’s a right PIA :(

Apparently this was happening in iOS 15 also

Other than on this thread, I’ve not seen this issue being reported. When I spoke with Apple over the weekend I just had the “leave it 48 hours” reply..I just hope they genuinely have picked up on the problem and it’s not just wishful thinking on our part!

I’ve tried the various suggestions in this thread, but no luck for me so far..:/

Need one of the admins/editors to put it on the front page of the website - that’d grab Apple’s attention 😂

Ye that would be helpful, maybe then Apple will be forced to acknowledge and address the problem instead of letting their ‘Genius’ army dismiss it with telling people that it’s normal or to wait 48 hours.

I’ve tried removing WhatsApp on my partners affected phone and so far (6hours without WhatsApp) the system data size has stayed exactly the same size - 11.34GB

Whereas before I could watch the system data partition increase every minute or so, it now seems settled. Will keep watching it.

So you haven’t put it back on yet, just deleted it and left it off the phone altogether?

I tried the earlier suggestion, deleted it and then put it back on and restored chats, but didn’t fix the problem on mine..

Indeed, initially I also removed and then reinstalled as suggested in the solution however, like yourself, problem showed up again. After that I just removed it altogether and so far so good 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not an ideal solution, especially for those that need WhatsApp for work etc but at least she isn’t constantly having to restart her phone.

I'm actually now thinking of setting my phone up from new

And completely getting rid of Apps I have never used, its going to be a PIA but needs must
Mine has steadily stayed at 60 GB after I re-downloaded a load of music. So it’s Growing but not as fast and not as high a rate. Really hope an update fixes this, but tempted to re-setup from an iCloud back up. I did the phone transfer option when first setting up.

I removed WhatsApp and the System Data is still increasing through the day
Unreal…what a PIA!!

I just checked my partners phone 20mins ago with no WhatsApp for 7 hours and system data was still the same size, so for her it seems to be the culprit. This was confirmed by me now reinstalling WhatsApp and while I type this message I’m watching data storage steadily climb again 🤦🏼‍♂️

Indeed I agree, the patch/update to fix this issue can’t come soon enough!

Also, when she transferred from the 13 Pro to 14 Pro she used iCloud data restore instead of phone to phone.

Is there a patch for this coming though?

I’ve had this problem a couple of times in the past including upgrading to an iPhone 14 pro on release day.my work around which I’ll explain as best I can is to sign out of iCloud then go to settings, transfer or reset iPhone then reset, reset all settings let it do its thing.esims are not deleted but asks you to select primary secondary ect,you will notice that all your photos and music are missing but if you wait an hour and then sign back into iCloud they will restore.you will have to re ad any cards for Apple Pay but the information is saved in wallet
Thank you - I think that solved my problem! It's gone down to 5GB after reset and not increased for the last hour or so - very promising!

Thought I would chime in and share my experience so far. iPhone 14 Pro 256 gb picked up Friday. Discovered the bug on Sunday when trying to take photos in the mountains and storage was full (approx 195gb of system data).

Contacted apple support, first try was a factory reset with Mac and restore from iCloud backup. That didn’t work. Back to support, escalated to senior advisor, who took a bunch of diagnostics and escalated to Engineering. He said it will likely get fixed in an update but couldn’t give a timeline. In the meantime he recommended I try factory reset and setup as a new phone rather than restore from backup. I haven’t done this yet. He did also say there was a chance it resolves on its own but he didn’t have much hope in that. Either way, I do believe Apple is aware of the issue, it’s just a matter of how widespread this is that’s going to determine its priority on the bug fixing list for engineering.

Tried deleting WhatsApp completely last night, worked for about 12 hours, this morning system data was around 2gb. Later this morning started climbing and my storage is already maxed again now.

Turning phone off and on again does reset the system data.

I have the same problem. If I turn off wifi and I'm only on a data plan, everything is fine. The memory is filled only on wifi.

Just switched off Wi-Fi and noticed the storage shrunk down too. Switched Wi-Fi back on and it jumped back up. Not feasible for me to run the phone on data only. I really hope they release a fix for this soon.

I also don't want to just be on data. It's a temporary solution. If a restart is made when Wi-Fi is turned off, the memory is fine. But only until the wifi is turned on. Then it fills up again.

Same issue here… I don’t have WhatsApp and thought messenger would do the same. Uninstalled it and tried reset settings on my iPhone 14 pro… didn’t work!

I’m now restarting each day to get some free space!

Please fix this Apple 🤯

I turned off wifi and the problem stopped. So it got me thinking that the phone is constantly trying to download something and failing. I found that when I transferred to the new iPhone 14 pro three movies did not download and were constantly trying to download. I canceled the download. So far no more system data problem.
