Slurpeeman,

Did you get an activation kit with its own nano sim card online? Does the sim card that comes with the activation kit have to be used, or can I use the nano sim that already came with the iPhone?

Thanks.

You can use the sim that already came in the phone with the activation kit that you ordered online.

You are right. The T-mobile prepaid activation kit arrived by snail mail last night, and I used the activation code from the kit and the nano-sim number from the unlocked iPhone 5 (ignoring the sim accompanying the activation kit). I signed up for the Tmo $30-/mon 100 min talk+unlim text+5 GB data plan online.

Thanks for the advice.

Stupid T-mobile customer service reps-- they all refused to help me activate the unlocked iphone 5 online. All I needed was an activation code.

Review after several months...

Basically my review is:

If you're near a major city, it's an awesome plan.
If you need to go between cities or are not in a major city it completely sucks (Edge galore...and even that barely works)

Since I am in the latter category, I'm thinking of going with an AT&T $60 prepaid plan (especially since I've been using more than 100 minutes most months)

Is this the best smartphone plan ever?
T-Mobile has a great plan for those who use their smartphones primarily as data devices. But finding the plan can be a challenge.

Depends upon your locations of primary use I guess.
I kept going over 100 minutes, thus necessitating an extra $10...

...plus the coverage outside any major metro was proven to be total garbage for me sadly.

T-Mobile Edge would frequently not work at all...at any speed.

I haven't read all the response in this thread so I apologize if this has been asked, but I have an iPhone 4S and my sister has my old iPhone 4. I have finally reached the end of my expensive contract with AT&T and would like to get this plan while updating both lines to iPhone 5's. Can I get the iPhone 5's from T-mobile and also have the 2 lines separate (not bundled)?

You are better off buying the unlocked T-mobile iPhone from Apple. It will cost you full retail price. It would be the same price at T-mobile, but they will give you a phone that is locked and you will have to go through the hassle to get them to unlock it a minimum of 60 days after you start service.

As far as the service plan, since it is prepaid, there isn't any need to bundle the plan. It's not a family plan.

You will have to get 2 SIM activation kits from T-mobile. These are often had at a discount from their website....as low as 0.99. They don't have SIM kits with micro SIMs, but don't worry....just get the full size SIM ones. All you need is the activation code inside. Make sure you got iPhones with T-mobile SIMs in them from Apple. When you activate, just use the number on the nano SIM that came with your phone with the activation code that came in your SIM kit. You won't use the actual SiM card that came in the kit.

Make sure you sign up for the right $30 plan. If you don't choose that plan at the start, you can't switch to it later.

Is there anyway to get the activation kits and the Iphones seperately? I mean to get the Iphone 5 at the $145 price, can I get the $30.00 plan too? It almost seems like you need the Iphone prior to signing up for the $30 plan.

Works great for me.

Purchased iPhone 5 unlocked from Apple store. TM lte in Indianapolis works great. In Springfield, IL on 4G so far. Very happy with it, better than I expected!

Is it possible for me to buy a 16GB iPhone 5 from T-Mobile for the $149 down payment and continue paying $20/month for the remaining device balance under their new uncarrier plan, but then switch to the $30 prepaid plan with an activation kit and bring my current phone number over to it? So I would be paying $30/month for the 100 minutes, 5GB data plan + $20/month for the device payment? Or will it not work that way? Will the entire remaining balance of the phone become due as soon as I cancel the $50/month plan, or whatever it is I choose to start with?

You have to stay with the plan which they put you on . Once you cancel the remaining balance is due.

I got the iphone 5 direct from T-Mo and once I paid off the device I switched over to the $30 prepaid plan.

The only issue I have is there is no support for Visual Voicemail. After a couple of calls to support, it seems that it will not work.

That's not a huge issue for me but the biggest problem is that there is absolutely no kind of alert that I have voicemail other than calling into the standard voicemail after I've missed or ignored a call.

Anybody have a better idea about voicemail in iphone 5?

Mine works fine. When it occasionally stops working, I restart the phone and it starts working again.

Help...I'm a phone dummy

Hi,
I have an old iPhone 3G with AT&T plan.
The contract is over.
I'm wondering if I can somehow use this T-Mobile $30 plan with my old iPhone?

Also, is the data WiFi only or is it always/everywhere like with AT&T?

Is this a prepaid plan? Do I 'reload' the account monthly?

Told you...I'm a phone dummy. I've never had to handle the phone stuff before so I'm clueless.
Thanks!

I apologize if this has been covered already, but does this 100 minutes include mobile to mobile or nights and weekends? I know a lot of plans give you free in network calling and nights/weekends. Or do these count against your 100 minutes?

I'm on the plan and I'm pretty sure basically everything counts against the 100 minutes, there are no exceptions. T-Mobile's prepaid doesn't have any benefits like that.

You would need to get the phone unlocked somehow, although I'm pretty sure that is easy with the 3GS. You could jailbreak and unlock with Ultrasnow, or buy an IMEI unlock somewhere online.

Once the phone is unlocked, this should help. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1578738/

The data is everywhere, not WiFI only. You can either choose to reload the account monthly or have it automatically charge a credit card.

phone dummy continues...

If I unlock my iPhone3G so I can use this T-Mobile deal, does it matter what sim card I buy?

Is the data really unlimited?
Thanks!

You need a regular size T-Mobile SIM and you can buy one with a prepaid phone at a Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

The data is unlimited but it's throttled to edge after you go over 5 gigs on 4G.

BTW, This isn't correct. I was able to switch to this $30 plan today with no problems by calling TMobile Customer service.

The rep in the store (Best Buy) could not locate this plan in the system so I walked out with a prepaid plan that it could be set to. I then came home and called the number. All done.

I even got the standard SIM cut in the store for no charge, as I have a micro sim. :D

There is one thing that sucks! You just can't walk into a TMobile store and buy a SIM card to take home and activate. No one I ran across would let me do that.

A plan like this would work great for me but not with T-Mobile as their coverage is just not enough in my area and just doesn't compare to the LTE speeds that I have with AT&T.
