Oooo soo let’s try booting Mac OS on the Pro, then connect your iMac. I’m thinking/guessing target display will act like a Thunderbolt Display once a signal is recognized in Mac OS it might remain active during a reboot.

You may need a SSDT, for the handshake in Mac OS to work.
I don't think Thunderbolt Target Display Mode is like a Thunderbolt display at all. Otherwise, it would be able to work from Windows and Linux.

Thunderbolt Target Display Mode is more like DisplayLink. The signal sent on the Thunderbolt cable is not DisplayPort or tunnelled DisplayPort.

The source Mac uses a driver to send framebuffer data over Thunderbolt (data like Thunderbolt networking - it's not tunnelled PCIe or tunnelled DisplayPort - it's DMA from host to host). The destination iMac uses a driver to receive that framebuffer data and output it to its display. I don't understand why other Thunderbolt Macs can't be the receiver - unless the iMac is using something other than its GPU to draw the framebuffer data which seems unlikely - I haven't tried looking at the code to find out.

Okay, so I ordered the Titan Ridge (pre-flashed) from Zephyr's Market. They were extremely helpful and sent it out right away.

After a little more trial and error with a dummy HDMI plug, I was able to get the Apple Thunderbolt Display to light up.

However, it's not ideal. I have to disconnect and reconnect after a reboot or shutdown to get the display to work. Sometimes the keyboard can control the sound and brightness, sometimes it cannot. In short, it's a little hacky and honestly makes me want to just use a non-Thunderbolt monitor to avoid all of this. Particularly because I'll be gifting this setup to a neighbour and I would hate for him to have to jump through all these hoops just to get his system running, etc.

Still on the fence but will likely sell the Thunderbolt Display and pickup a cheap monitor in its place to use with this.

I did want to post here, though, to say thanks and to say that I got it working and what I need for it to work.
Did you use a dummy Displyport plug connected to the Titan ridge card, then the Thunderbolt Display plugged in with a TB3 >2 adapter ? I have the same setup and I’m trying to get the display to output anything, currently using a Cinema Display plugged directly into the graphics card with DVI

Hello All,

I have a
My system:
Mac Pro 5,1 mid 2010 (Server)
Titan Ridge 2.0 flashed - Port 4
macOS Big Sur 11.2.1
OpenCore 0.6.6

Pin 3-5 Jumpered
No additional power to Titan 2.0 Card

I see the TB3 card installed and even connected to my OWC Thunderbay 43, However the Drives never mount.
I would be most appreciative if some one could direct me on how to get the drives to mount.

One additional question: Where should the USB on the TR3 Card be connected inside the 5,1?

BTW: My TB3 enable laptop mount the drives just fine, its a beautiful thing.

TIA

Be Well

Hi All,

I'm truly at my wits end, NOTHING I've tried allows me to MOUNT the drives on a OWC Thunderbay 4 JBOD.
I've tried multiple different HD drives and all the firmware I could flash and a bunch of ACPI .aml files and still nada.

If anyone has a contribution, believe me it'll be appreciated.

Be Well

Hi All,

In my never ending Quest to mount external HDs (ThunderBay 4) via My Titan Ridge 2.0. I found a new question, what Driver is required for the AHCI? Apparently this driver is Missing? could this be a factor?

TIA

Could anyone that has Titan Ridge working in MacOS and Windows share what their setup is. I have a TR version 1 with DSM2's NVM23 and am using Open Core with ssdt.

Everything works fine in MacOS but windows doesn't work, shows this error.

Anybody having issues with installing TB3 Titan Ridge with a USB-C card? My Titan Ridge 2.0 was working fine until I installed Sonnet Allegro USB-C 4-Port PCIe. After a couple of restarts and reseting the NVRAM, it works.

Also, Samsung X5 seems to not work at all.

My system:
Mac Pro 5,1 mid 2010
Titan Ridge 2.0 flashed
macOS Big Sur
OpenCore 0.6.5
Hi,

Forgive the intrusion here.

It sounds like we have a similar setup. I can't get my Titan Ridge 2.0 to mount my external drive (Thunderbay 4).
I was wondering what Firmware you flashed the Titan Ridge card with and what .aml ACPI profile are you using, assuming your running Open Core.

Thanks in advance.

For Windows, I believe you need to use the driver from the Installation CD. I have ver1.0 as well. Also, I recall thunderbolt control center being an issue so i uninstalled. sorry been a while since i messed with windows (pre-dsm2). attached is a screenshot of driver that works for me. Also note, you have to 2x boot macos first, then warm boot windows...hope this helps.

A sleep solution for the Titan Ridge 2 interface....

Pin 11 on the PCIe bus is WAKE#. It was clear to me that when the MacPro went to sleep and immediately woke back up, someone on the controller was asserting the WAKE# line to cause the system to wake back up. After a few attempts at other solutions I decided to investigate modifying the card. In fact on the Titan Ridge 2.0 card there is a zero ohm jumper from the contact for pin 11 to something on the card. Removing the jumper prevents the card from waking the system. See the picture included below.

While I have limited testing, this mod prevents immediate wakeup on sleep with either USB or Thunderbolt devices plugged into the card.

With a Thunderbolt drive attached via Apple's TB3/TB2 adapter, the drive is seen on hot plug but not usable until booting with the drive attached to the machine. I believe this is normal for this interface and not effected by this mod. Putting the system to sleep and manually waking it, the drive is still present and usable.

While I'm still testing with an Apple USB-C to USB3.0 adapter the system will enter sleep without waking itself up.

Note that waking the system on a hot plug / unplug event is clearly disabled given the card no longer has a means of waking the system with WAKE# disconnected. I think for most use cases this isn't a problem. If fact I can't remember ever wanting this to work on a real Apple Thunderbolt interface...

I wanted to check in and see how many people have actually removed the resistor on their TR3 and hear if sleep functions. Has anyone done this HW mod and had sleep NOT work?
I really want sleep as the cycling of the relay and fans is really bothersome to me noise-wise when watching TV etc. I would rather not mod my card but I'm going to try at this point. I have a hard time soldering tiny stuff now so if it does not work I am not confident I can re-attach the surface mount resistor.
Thanks

@DSM2.Hackintosh
I know this is a Mac Pro post related, but has anyone tried the same steps on a Hackintosh?
I've done on mine (MacPro 7.1) and is working fine, apart from one issue the speed which is showing as 10Gb instead of 40Gb.

Hi guys, which firmware(s) also work on Windows? I'd like to get a dual boot system working with TB3 on both. I've got the Titan Ridge and flasher in hand.

Anyone have success using a QNAP TB3 NAS with their TR card on a 5,1 with Big Sur?
I can get my TR v2 card in my 5,1 mac pro to see my qnap NAS (TVS-h1288x) in big sur. In fact, When I plug the cable in the NAS says "Thunderboldt connected" but when I view the status of the thunderbolt bridge in big sur's netwok properties It says no thunderbolt devices connected, but in Big sur's system information under thunderbolt it shows the QNAP Nas. Any suggestions?

Just in case you want to try the hardware modification without it being permanent. Have you considered, using nail polish (or something like it) to cover the connector on the PCIe. And you can use a multimeter to test that that connector has been covered before inserting it into your computer. I hope the suggestion is helpful.

Antelope interface could be used with titan ridge flashed on Mac Pro 5.1 with open core ?
Please see their work below. It's still under development stage.

They have not only fixed Antelope. But other brands like PreSonus, Slate Digital, Focusrite, Apogee Digital and few NAS brands like Drobo and PROMISE.

Such a promising thing so far when everyone gave up, especially on Antelope. They have done a demonstration too.

everything goes fine here with :

No need to reboot.
Is it really working without any cold and reboot now, just boting once ad it works ?

Hello everyone, wasnt here for a while.
I read from about page 35, but its kind of confusing, so many FW and ways with Opencore and such.

I had it working really well with booting into Windows 10, but then my 5.1 EFI died, was planning on fixing it, but soon after things went really crazy as you all know ...

The card i have is a Rev.1 unflashed, i dont know which firmware is on there.
is the serial a indicator ?

Would be cool to get it running again with the Apollo interface.
But before I invest into a processor board I would like to know what the deal is.
Seems like the Linux route didnt really go anywhere, only one guy made it somehow.

A brief update would be cool =)
thanks
