Derek,

I love this app. My recipients are complaining that the messages are coming across on their iPhones, as separate Conversations. I know you had said that this was how each wireless company handles messages, but is there any work around?

I will continue to use this app and I have found it very useful for my purposes. For my use, it keeps the conversations just how I need them to be kept. I use the car crash ringtone which has startled me when driving, though. LOL

I tried texting to my friend's phone, who I was right beside, from my iPod touch. It's not jailbroken, I actually paid 2.99 for this app(a lot of updates before, lol) She got a text message welcoming her to Rogers Email-to-SMS program, even though she has unlimited texting plan. I then tried with someone that uses Bell, and they were able to see the message, but then replied and got a 15c text charge even though she too has unlimited texting.

Textnow enhancments, sugestions

Derek,

Love the app, MUCH faster then Textfree and i love the GV integration, due to that I would like to suggest a few enhancements.

1) The text font in the send bubble is VERY small, I thought I saw someone complain about it but I cant find it in this thread.

2) The text chat bubble covers up the previous text msgs. I sent you an email with another issue which seems to have resolved itself. I can provide screen shots.

That's pretty much it I think. Hopefully you'll have these addressed in the next version.

With Rogers, the recipient has to reply with Yes the first time and then reply with Read to see subsequent texts.

As for Bell, replies should not be charged on top of the unlimited texting, your friend should call Bell and clarify what that charge was for.

Both of those points you pointed out will be addressed in the next update. I'll be posting screenshots soon of the new version on our blog.

Derek:

Can you make sure you include in the next update a fix for the keyboard? When sending a text and we enter a question mark (?) and send the keyboard should reset back to text and not numbers/symbols!

The Bell charge was for Email-to-SMS, and Rogers they did press read, etc, they still got charged

Derek:
can you somehow make it that when we type, it brings up suggestion and hotlink. I would like an option in the setting or somewhere, where I can pre-set a list of sites.

Something like this. Setting-> List of Links -> https://www.macrumors.com

Go to TextNow. Text to Bob "check out TextNow thread on M- (suggestion pops up and/or Macrumors link)" :D

And can you add a "clear conversation" button near the top right corner. And are we getting avatar in your text?

Those latest screenshots of Textnow are amazing! The UI looks fantastic Derek!

Most of my friends have cancelled there $20 iPhone texting plan and have gotten Textnow. At first they didn't believe me that you could get "Free" texting on the iPhone... lol

I want this app, but I have questions.

Do I set up any accounts anywhere? or do I just send texts and receive them as normal?

Where is the catch?

There is no catch, upon opening Textnow for the 1st time you will goto options and type in your name@textnow.me address and your name.

thats all :D

Derek:

Can you make it so if im in the home screen of the iPhone and I get a text, instead of reply I hit close make it so it doesnt continue to show there is a text on the textnow icon. Get what I'm saying?

Can't be done. Those notifications are handled by the iPhone. Not by the app. You can turn off badges and it won't show you new badge numbers at all. But you can't have it not show badges for "closed" items but show numbers for the others.

But with the iPhone SMS app, if you get a text while browsing through your home screen you can hit reply or close, and when you hit close it deletes the badge number!

Handled differently for the SMS app. It isn't using Push Notifications like third party apps have to use.

So, again, not possible to do what you're asking.

Any way to clear a conversation?

I don't want to get rid of a contact from the list (it's a Google Voice forwarded contact). But I want to clear that conversation.

So how about like the SMS app. a "Clear Conversation" button somewhere to remove all the previous chat text. But not remove the contact from the Messages view.

Google voice + textnow= easy, seamless free texting. In in night I got all my core friends and family updated with my new "txt'ing number." I f'n love it... this is so damn brilliant. I'm always going over on my $5 txt'ing plan but no more!

Is there anyway to use this app along with my GV number as my mobile phone number for my facebook alerts?

You can clear the conversation by deleting the thread in the main view. Doing so will not erase the Google Voice forwarding for that contact as it is all stored in the server.

Hey Derek,

I am having a hard time sending texts via GV. I don't know if it's a GV problem or a server problem, but when I send a text, I get the spinning wheel of death. It keeps going and going with the message along the lines of "sending text message." I have to close the app and resend the text a second time for it to successfully go through, which is a huge hassle.
